Jiwari, the Earth Aflame Discussion
4 months ago
Won my first 4 player game with this deck today - the haste actually won it for me as I tapped down flying blockers with Thundermaw Hellkite. So early successes right now! I think one area I might want to re-explore is more of a mass removal option like with Arashi, the Sky Asunder or Jiwari, the Earth Aflame. But I'm happy with my first few experiences.

I have the 99 but i can't think of a good or even decent commander. I was thinking of Homura, Human Ascendant , Torbran, Thane of Red Fell , Jiwari, the Earth Aflame , Neheb, the Eternal , or Purphoros, God of the Forge

This is a pretty good start for your first commander deck! Possibility Storm could be cool here because it causes Ruric to trigger twice on every noncreature spell.
Personally I would make these swaps:
Treacherous Terrain -->
Rampant Growth --> Gyre Sage
Cultivate --> Drumhunter
Leyline of Combustion --> Stalking Vengeance
Destructive Revelry --> Caustic Caterpillar
Colossal Majesty --> Garruk's Packleader
Pyroclastic Elemental --> Primordial Sage
Scorch Spitter --> Fierce Empath
Gruul Cluestone --> Yavimaya Elder
Tectonic Rift --> Jiwari, the Earth Aflame
Savage Twister --> Silklash Spider
From Beyond --> Gratuitous Violence

Of Earth and Air RRGG
Legendary Creature - Elemental
Gets +1/+1 for each Mountain and Forest you control and haste if you control another red elemental and Trample if you control a green elemental.
Continue making cards for this world. Maybe Arashi and Jiwari became gods or Planeswalkers for this world?

Might I also suggest:
Drogskol Reaver, Geist of Saint Traft, Brago, King Eternal, Deadeye Navigator, Ghastlord of Fugue, Jiwari, the Earth Aflame, Karmic Guide, Kira, Great Glass-Spinner, Lavaborn Muse, Myojin of Life's Web, Nobilis of War, Obzedat, Ghost Council, Overbeing of Myth, Primordial Sage, Ryusei, the Falling Star, Spell Queller, Spirit of the Hearth, Tomorrow, Azami's Familiar, Wall of Reverence, Yomiji, Who Bars the Way, Eidolon of Rhetoric, Ghost-Lit Warder, Innocence Kami, Nebelgast Herald, Ore Gorger, Pus Kami, Revenant Patriarch, Ruin Ghost, Spectral Shepherd, Dimir Infiltrator, Baku Altar, Custodi Soulbinders, Hallowed Spiritkeeper, Kirtar's Wrath, Seize the Soul, Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts, AEther Shockwave, Field of Souls, Gods' Eye, Gate to the Reikai, Path of Ancestry, Unclaimed Territory, Mirror of the Forebears, Herald's Horn, Door of Destinies, Descendants' Path, Faces of the Past, Shared Animosity, Vigean Intuition, Distant Melody, and any of the Kindred cards

Mana ramp can be important and you may find it works for you, but I find with Ruric, it's best to obsessively run as many creatures as possible. The trick is to find creatures that can do what you want your nonland cards to do - you have the right idea with the mana dorks and the magus, for instance. I'd try to push it, though, with things like Fierce Empath, Heartwood Storyteller and Krosan Tusker. Arashi, the Sky Asunder and Jiwari, the Earth Aflame are creatures that can be used as removal when needed. Tempting Licid and its brethren can be an aura without Ruric Thar blasting you.
The only noncreature, nonlands cards I'd run are things like Domri Rade or Call of the Wild. Once you have enough of a density of creatures, Garruk's Horde, Vizier of the Menagerie, Oracle of Mul Daya and Courser of Kruphix can provide great card advantage.

if you actually read this, type your favorite Michael Jackson song. (Go Smooth Criminal) If you don't have one, What's wrong with you?
What makes an Unplayable commander?
I'm using EDHREC'S list of Unplayable commander's. They are commander's that have less then three decks on tapped out, you can find the list here.

How does this work?
I'll randomly select a commander. I'll build the rough skeleton. You send me suggestions for weird cards for it. And we'll cut it down and ship it. Let's put the minds of the internet to the test
Why would you build around (Insert bad commander) when you could play (Insert better commander in the same archetype or colors) instead, what's the point?
First off the object should not be to just build good stuff with X. If we're building Rohgahh of Kher Keep we aren't building R/B good stuff. We're building around Rohgahh of Kher Keep. Weird drawbacks and neat side effects and all.
Because if you limit yourself to just the best deck of their colors, you limit yourself to 30 decks in the entirety of the format (Mono color, guilds, shards ect), But the great thing about commander is that there are hundreds of ways to build around one commander. I can build Zedruu the Greathearted as a prison deck, a evil santa deck, a group hug deck, Heck I could build voltron Zedruu, Sky's the limit.
So instead of simply looking at the cards and seeing what they aren't, let's look and see what they bring to the table. No matter how bad it looks. No matter how weird it is.
Plus it'll be a lot of fun.
TLDR; What's the deck already
You know we've had too much good in this series. We need a crappy commander again!
The only real interesting thing about this card, Gatherer states this is a Human Solder Warrior. That has to be worth something??????
As always any Suggestions for the deck, feedback, Liking and spreadage of the word is great appreciated!
Here's the previous decks if you wanna stroll the Asylum. Ranked for best to worst.
Not the worst?
LOL at least you tried
