Irresistible Prey Discussion

A got to do some modern competetive gameplay with this deck and made some notes:
- Contrary to expectations the deck didn't generate very many tokens.
- I would have liked to have more removal.
- Deck could be faster and more interactive.
- Duress doesn't hit a target everytime.
- Opponent will sideboard gravehate and also maybbe combo distrubtion.
The changes I made:
These changes seem pretty good. I'm looking forward for the next FnM, or similar, event!

You will empty your hand quickly with this deck and most of the time your creatures trade 1 for 1, problem is you don't have a way to restock your hand and you are very vulnerable to sweepers.
For the first issue, green isn't known for it's card draw, still Mask of Memory or Infiltration Lens could help, failing that Irresistible Prey or Warriors' Lesson. Whatever you decide, replace Pathway Arrows and Viridian Longbow the interaction is cool, but slow.
The second issue doesn't have a perfect answer as black sweepers use -n/-n effects normally and blue returns to hand, however Heroic Intervention will stop destroy effects and targeted removal...

robgould339, I think it entirely depends on your gameplan. If you're going for a more competitive deck, reanimator is the more powerful archetype. The deck doesn't really need deathtouch creatures to operate though, so it might be easier to start from scratch. By contrast, the deathtouch plan is weaker, but it is much more likely to thrive in a casual environment and will probably cost much less to build. As mentioned, I don't even think graveyard recursion is necessary in such a deck. I'd rather rely on card draw to keep fuel in the engine. Harvester of Souls, Harmonize, Shamanic Revelation, Phyrexian Arena- that sort of thing. Combining the strategies isn't awful, I just don't think it's altogether that necessary.
I'd probably stick to the deathtouch gameplan if I was building the deck since thematic homebrews are more my style. I'd probably run all the small guys, seeing as you only need 1 damage for deathtouch to work. Typhoid Rats, Ambush Viper, Deathmist Raptor, Vampire Nighthawk. Having a few beaters on the high end certainly doesn't hurt. Wurmcoil Engine was one really strong option that slipped my mind. Then, I'd just want ways to exploit deathtouch. Pathway Arrows + Glissa, the Traitor, Lure, Irresistible Prey + Agent of the Fates- anything in that ballpark.

Hey, I built a dinosaur-themed deck a while ago as well, and I really like what you've done with your deck. I'm especially pleased to see how different our decks are, considering the small pool of cards out there that feature dinosaur-like creatures in the art. As I can see that you really appreciate this sort of flavour, I'd be honoured if you'd check out my deck and give me your two-cents. You gave me the idea to consider Irresistible Prey since it has great synergy with deathtouchers, but I'm having trouble including it in mine from a flavour standpoint (my raptors aren't supposed to be the prey). Here it is, if you're interested: Dinopocalypse (Dinosaur-Flavour Gruul Casual)

For me UW was much better, but whatever... :)
For sure I can see here:
- 4x Defiant Strike
- 4x Viridescent Wisps
- 4x Favored Hoplite
- 4x Lagonna-Band Trailblazer
- 4x Dromoka's Command
- 2-4x Apostle's Blessing/ Gods Willing/ Brave the Elements
Maybe some of these:

Oh no hyperlinking didn't work at all. I just spent 15 minutes adding cards that weren't in the database. Welp. I'll just add them without links.
Cards with links need CN2 edition, cards without need to be added to database.
I wish I could just add them myself...

So, after looking through 'Take The Crown' there were 7 reprinted cards and a single new wolf creature card that caught my eye as being possibly useful for wolven decks.
Fang Of the pack The only new wolf creature in the set.
Burn Away Good sideboard card for any deck really, end's delirium decks on the spot.
Gruul War Chant Maybe a good late game sweeper card if you can get a few strong flipped wolve's out.
Flame Slash Cheap Removal.
If anything else from the set stands out to you please share :)
