Welcome to Tappedout and to Isshin brewing. In looking at your list I have some thoughts and potential suggestions. A few quick questions: Do you have a budget per card or total budget in mind? Is there a particular avenue of Isshin that you have in mind, I see that you mentioned multi-combats.

  • Your deck generally looks solid, but I think you creatures are what could use the most focus in terms of swaps. Stuff like Heliod, Megatron, Hooded Blightfang, Raiyuu, and Academy Manufactor are good, but don't fit this deck super well.

  • If you like Hooded Blightfang, I'd recommend adding some deathtouch anthems like Vault of the Archangel, Ankle Shanker, and/or Kaya, Geist Hunter to really take advantage of its ability. Otherwise, I think you could remove it.

  • If you like that GroupSlug style of play like Hooded Blightfang, I'd recommend checking out other stuff like Hellrider, Brutal Hordechief, Vicious Conquistador, or Infectious Horror, which aren't as narrow in focus to pull off like Blightfang.

  • I think you could probably swap Feed the Swarm for something like Dismantling Wave, Anguished Unmaking, or Vanishing Verse. Mardu has more options for enchantment removal than other color combos with Black in them where Feed the Swarm is one of their few options.

  • Lastly, these are not budget friendly, but are generally good cards for any Isshin strat. I'd recommend checking out Dolmen Gate, which will be getting another reprint in The List pretty soon when the LotR set drops, and Reconnaissance, which is like a pseudo-Vigilance anthem that can save your creatures from combat. This article details how Reconnaissance works a bit more.

I hope these suggestions are helpful. I've had a lot fun playing Isshin for the past year, and I hope you do too.

Hey, interesting Zombie theme. There's many excellent cards here, but also way too much filler for a 500+ budget. I presume the wincon here is Captain? With Gravecrawler combos of Altar or Rooftop?

Only 11 ramp sources here with only 33 lands are low numbers for Muldrotha. I don't consider Explosive Vegetation and Circuitous Route playable ramp either with a $100 low budget let alone a higher $500+ budget. There's so many ramp choices that have better interaction with Muldrotha that aren't 4 mana. 3.5 avg. CMC (mana curve) is high for only these numbers too. Something should give? Either add more ramp, add more lands, cut the lesser high CMC cards, or do all this to improve your deck?

To reduce mana curve these are some cards to consider cutting?

Others:

The Spirit tribal theme is not needed here. Some Spirits are fine, if the card is good by itself or helps Muldrotha some other ways and doesn't need other Spirits. There's a reason that Cemetery Desecrator isn't even $1 and is a Mythic rare, it's a terrible card for 6 mana. Drownyard Amalgam is at least not Mythic, but is just as bad for a five drop. You don't need these Zombies, they aren't helping your deck in any way for their mana cost.

It can help to see a deck list that's not 99 cards yet, but has been stripped of a lot of fat. Seeing a list this way can help to smooth the mana curve by adding more cards at certain parts of it that need more such as two drops here. In boarder terms consider more ramp, draw and low mana cost reanimation/self-mill enablers to setup Muldrotha and Zombies?

Good luck with your deck.

Ashdust: Yeah my bad, I wasn't taking budget into account when I wrote that. Any of Infectious Horror, Rhox Veteran, Moonsilver Spear, Righteous Cause, and Parhelion II could go, but they're all waaaay cheaper than the Hero. Don't lose sleep over it.

MJS154, both are good suggestions. I'll have to check as to whether I have any Mortuary Mire s. I'm thinking I don't at present. Infectious Horror I have several of. It's a little like a larger Pulse Tracker . I'm trying to keep this one mostly aggro, so I do have to be careful of slow lands and expensive creatures. both are worth thinking about. Thanks.

Take out Infectious Horror it’s a terrible card. Maybe add Ravenous Chupacabra instead

Thanks for commenting! TMBRLZ, Open the Graves would change the playstyle of the deck a bit, but it's a great card! If I find that my current approach isn't cutting it, a more midrange deck with several copies could be good! I definitely see the appeal of Skeleton Archer, and have added 3 copies to the sideboard. Infectious Horror isn't bad, but if I can play Josu Vess, Lich Knight for the same cmc, I'd rather run him.

Bxbx, thanks for the further input, it's much appreciated. I will attempt to get my hands on a few Lilianas, but until then, I definitely see your points on the other cards. Necrotic Wound has been replaced with more reliable kill spells. Tattered Mummy has been replaced with Graveyard Marshal. I removed Barrier of Bones to add a few more copies of some key cards. Would you instead recommend running a few copies of Stitcher's Supplier, or are the 4 Diregraf Ghouls sufficient as one drops?

Solid deck. I was looking for some stronger suggestions but you have seemed to cover everything pretty well, while respecting a low curve. I was looking heavily at Infectious Horror and Open the Graves but those obviously disrupt the low avg cmc you're trying to maintain.

One card that would be really nice with Death Baron though is Skeleton Archer. He is a 4 drop, so a little heavy, but with a Baron in play, since Archer is the one dealing damage, deathtouch would be considered, so you can nuke any targetable creatures on the field and resolve a 3/3 (4/4) creature.

Think it would be a solid 2x or 3x in your deck. Excellent work otherwise.
