Induce Paranoia Discussion

You do have Drift of Phantasms but more tutors are always good - like Dark Petition or Diabolic Tutor. I don't recommend adding tons of them, but those are some options.

Also, you don't have very much removal in the deck so far, I don't think, and you don't have much recursion. I'd also recommend more land than 29. Mortuary Mire is a good start for two of those.

I got a couple suggestions. If you want to stay mono blue then consider: 4x Thought Scour,4xs Hedron Crab, 4x Fraying Sanity, and 4x Shelldock Isle and Ipnu Rivulet and Sphinx's Tutelage are maybes.

unless summary dismissal is a meta choice than you can try Countermand.

As denijsx90 recommended before Archive Trap is worth the cost of the card, but cheaper options like Startled Awake  Flip can speed up the deck too.

2nd suggestion is adding black - which allows Glimpse the Unthinkable, Mind Funeral, Pilfered Plans, Psychic Strike, and Induce Paranoia which adds more efficient milling spells and some control and card draw.

The key to winning mill is the same as burn - SPEED, but unlike burn you have to do it 3x faster since libraries are 60 cards instead of 20 life. I play a "mono blue" with the win cons of Archive Trap+Sanity Grinding, but my deck takes advantage of using the Shadowmore/Eventide Avatars Overbeing of Myth, Godhead of Awe, Dominus of Fealty and lots of UU/UUU spells (Counterspell, Cryptic Command, Wistful Selkie, Plumeveil. Usually when I hit on turn 3 it is for 20 - 26 cards and can finish up by turn 4 or 5.

Maybe drop the Sphinx of the Final Word, Doorkeeper + defender package, and most of your spells. I like the Manic Scribe + Archaeomancer + Displace as a causal combo in multiplayer, but its too slow for Modern.

Grindstone + Painter's Servant. Grindstone is not modern legal, so don't use it if you want to keep your deck modern legal. Painter's Servant combos with the Sphinx's Tutelages in your deck pretty well. Some other cards to consider: Archive Trap, Duskmantle Guildmage, Compelling Argument, Countermand, Glimpse the Unthinkable, Induce Paranoia, Jace Beleren, Jace, Memory Adept, Mesmeric Orb, Nemesis of Reason

Fraying Sanity will make your mill much more viable. Psychic Strike or Induce Paranoia make good counters in a UB mill deck as well.

Are only two curses enough to win? I think you might need more mill support:

How about Psychic Strike, Broken Ambitions, Countermand, Induce Paranoia as counter spells that also mill

Grisly Spectacle as a kill mill spell

Pilfered Plans, Thought Scour as draw and mill

Returned Reveler, Returned Centaur, Vedalken Entrancer as mill creatures with larger toughnesses

xander11 I think you underestimate Clutch of the Undercity. I added it for it's limited 4mana-Tutor effect in first place. The secondary bounce effect is just a nice addition. Same goes for Muddle the Mixture and Perplex.

Induce Paranoia and Psychic Strike are way better then Counterspell since they support the Mill Strategy immensely.

Hey dude, this is absolutely definitely not a bad deck for a beginner brewer. It does seem a lot more focused on creating and sacrificing zombies than milling opponents though. Have you already bought these cards? If not, I can try to suggest some budget alternatives if you'd prefer.

Vampiric Tutor is another nice cheap tutor for fetching Phenax or the likes out of the deck if you'd like. If you do want to go more down the milling route, then I can recommend a few good cards. Mind Funeral, Mind Grind, Increasing Confusion and Traumatize are some classics, and Keening Stone isn't so useful at the start but can completely remove an opponent's library later on if you've already put some work into milling them. Jace, Memory Adept also has a really annoying 0 ability and some card draw in his +1 if you need it. Fascination is also pretty neat.

Undead Alchemist is a great card in a zombie mill deck, and Lich Lord of Unx is pretty neat too. Szadek, Lord of Secrets isn't initially a zombie but puts in some work if the opponents have no flying creatures.

Psychic Strike, Induce Paranoia, Countermand are some neat alternative counterspells with some milling bonuses.
