Hunting Cheetah

Creature — Cat

Whenever Hunting Cheetah deals damage to an opponent, you may search your library for a Forest card, reveal that card, and put it into your hand. Then shuffle your library.

DrukenReaps on Saskia Deckbuilding Directions?

I was actually just thinking about her the other night because I'm getting the Secret Lair that she will be in. I think the best route to make use of her is things that trigger on damage. Some of those legends are a good start but if you don't mind infect it would be great with her. Lifelink, double strike, and trample are all "nicer" keywords that people get less upset by. True Conviction is high on the CMC but potentially every bit as devastating as Triumph of the Hordes.

Some good cards with on damage triggers Charnelhoard Wurm, Stigma Lasher, Soltari Visionary, Phantom Nishoba, Order of Yawgmoth, and Hypnotic Specter. These triggers are on damage so with Saskia in play they go off twice.

Angel of Deliverance is a maybe. I don't like the cost or the hoop but the effect is strong...

Avenging Druid is interesting but maybe Hunting Cheetah is less painful? Depends on if you do any grave stuff.

Otherwise I like the Sunforger plan. A lot of combat tricks can be had here. Though Sunforger is usually only a piece of a deck and not the only thing going on in it.

Nifty list. I don't have the cards or meta that you do, playing a more casual styled meta, and I play 1 v 1 30 life commander, so my list is very different, though in many cases I can see why we have different cards. But there are some things that I am curious about and I do have some suggestions. Hopefully you find some of them helpful.

Pouncing Jaguar has 2 power for a 1 drop cat, but 1 mana echo seems very annoying. Steppe Lynx may need landfall, but I imagine in the early turns this is achievable and you can save your mana for other things. Given your artifact hate I imagine players will trigger Leonin Elder often enough to give little life boosts. Glittering Lynx can also be randomly annoying for a 1 drop cat. Sure, they aren't 2 power starters, but at the start neither is Leonin Vanguard , which you run as an early game pressure card.

Do you love your life so much for your lifegain plan to use Spirit Loop ? I'm not sure I'd use a card with little other purpose. Given your buffs standards Battle Mastery seems ok, Silverblade Paladin should be a favorite, a creature to tutor for combos with cats, especially Lost Leonin , is good alongside its own 2/2 double strike frame. Grafted Wargear is nice, though I suppose with artifact removal the drawback stings, though it can't be much worse than a combat tricked creature removal on king of the pride. Still, grafted is faster than Heirloom Blade .

Hunting Cheetah may be a cat, but at that speed I would think Hunter's Insight should be a valid set-up card.

Pendelhaven is a better forest in most cases, a free 1 power boost in addition to being an untapped green source. I have enjoyed Mutavault as getting under the radar as a cat land. For ramp is burning a and to draw so good to use it over nature's lore or an artifact like Arcane Signet , even with your artifact hate out?

Skyhunter Skirmisher eats life quickly, though as a 3 drop that needs Arahbo to sink into it you might find it slow and weak to removal's tempo. Rhonas serves as such 3 drop support with a bit of added mana sink damage. As far as swarm boosts go Metallic Mimic is an early game 2 drop cat option that rewards swarming multiple cats.

Great, I have built it and it's lots of fun. I made some changes based on my matches.

Out:
Krosan Verge - put Mutavault instead.
Godsend
Helm of Kaldra
Mask of Avacyn
Sword of Kaldra
Masterwork of Ingenuity - I don't have it, will buy.
Asceticism - I don't have it and put Privileged Position instead.
Leonin Abunas - Privileged Position can protect kitties' toys.
Prowling Serpopard - I haven't seen someone counter kitties, so I put other things.
Raksha Golden Cub - Too big, I put Taj-Nar Swordsmith instead.
Steppe Lynx - I prefer Loam Lion, Steppe Lynx needs landfall.
Hunting Cheetah - I don't have it, will buy.
Teferi's Protection - I don't have it, will buy.

In:
Mutavault
Conqueror's Flail
Trailblazer's Boots
Umezawa's Jitte
Privileged Position
Berserk
Nature's Lore
Rampant Growth
Kodama's Reach
Nissa's Pilgrimage
Loam Lion
Taj-Nar Swordsmith
Puresteel Paladin

Alright, heres some suggestions.

  1. Id drop the mana rocks, like Commander's Sphere, Talisman of Unity for ramp like Nature's Lore, Skyshroud Claim, etc. This will make your Ramp package better at color fixing and providing a more permanent ramp to your mana.

  2. Consider cards and effects that help your early and mid game. Strionic Resonator and Chameleon Colossus are very synergistic with your general.

  3. Inexpensive utility cats are really solid, like Leonin Arbiter, Hunting Cheetah, and so on.

  4. On the same train of thought, anthem-like effects like Adaptive Automaton, Metallic Mimic could also be worth considering.

  5. Lastly, staples in your colors: Worldly Tutor, Enlightened Tutor, Eladamri's Call, Rishkar's Expertise, Wrath of God, Aura Shards, Eternal Witness... you could also consider something like Greater Good for those late game post-combat tricks.

Ill keep brainstorming, but I hope this helps you with your brewing!

Thanks PartyJ, for the thumbs up and suggestions.

I Plan on putting in Eternal Witness when I get one.

I have Sakura-Tribe Elder, Alesha, Who Smiles at Death, and Utter End set aside to add if I feel putting them in will help.

I feel like Hunting Cheetah, or Centaur Rootcaster would make better ramp, but i don't know if I run enough Basics or Forests to justify it.

Pickacantaloupe - I like the Steppe Lynx for sure but I think he's more of a "starts in hand quick advantage" player rather than something to really put a package around, so I agree with your second comment.

I do have a Hunting Cheetah actually and I am thinking of putting him in, but I'm not sure he fits just now. If he were then I think it'd be a stronger push but I think as a he's a little weaker.

Finally, regarding the Metallic Mimic I did have him in but he's value on tokens rather than 1 or 2 big cats. The extra +1/+1 isn't worth it in my opinion, especially as you need to draw him first and you'll be tutoring out the other cats anyway. I felt similar about Adaptive Automaton. These cats can get so big the extra counter isn't worth a card slot. I might be wrong though and I might change my mind.
