in modern, 5 mana is too expensive for a card that doesnt immediately do something. Demonic Rising and Homicidal Seclusion don't do anything the turn they are cast. you have a lot of high mana cost stuff and not enough mana to cast it. even 24 lands is only enough to support 4cmc spells, yet you have stuff that cost 5 mana and only 22 lands. that won't work. your removal and discard spells are also very sub par. better removal options would include Fatal Push, Go for the Throat, and Smother. for discard, run Thoughtseize and Inquisition of Kozilek. of course, even all that won't help a deck thats reliant on cards that cost 5 mana and require you to only have 1 creature. you'll have nothing to block with to defend your life points. the very foundation of your strategy is not one thats modern viable.

So I'm thinking about splashing white into my Mono Black Demonic Rising Control

I was thinking going 4 Shambling Vent as another way to activate Homicidal Seclusion and Demonic Rising

Also maybe adding Path to Exile instead of Devour Flesh. a white board wipe and some Disenchant in the sideboard?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm thinking of splashing in white. Having Shambling Vent as another permanent to activate the Demonic Rising and Homicidal Seclusion enchantments. Maybe subbing in Path to Exile instead of the Devour Flesh.

While I appreciate the flavor of having 0 creatures: Winding Constrictor and Tuskguard Captain would be awesome. Some of the 1-creature synergies from Avacyn Restored (Demonic Rising, Homicidal Seclusion) could be a lot of fun, and criminally underused. You need you some lifelink anyway, given that having one creature makes sure you die if anyone is ever flying and/or just has lots of nontoken creatures.

I replace 1 x Zur the Enchanter and 1 x Oblivion Ring by 2 x Idyllic Tutor.

I think Homicidal Seclusion, Demonic Rising and Linvala, the Preserver are fun but too high CMC since I have no great way to ramp.

You might also want to consider Idyllic Tutor to help you get your Luminarch Ascension out.

Ive also found Linvala, the Preserver to be quite useful in control decks that dont run many creatures or much lifegain.

I'm not an expert on mana base construction, but isn't 32 lands and 15 mana rocks an extreme ratio? I know the general rule is "2 rocks = 1 land" so your total is still 39.5 "lands", but still, 47 cardslots are dedicated to mana production, meaning you will draw less gas. I think so many rocks also forces you to resort to some that are worse than simply lands. Having a rock instead of a land only ramps you if you are already hitting all your land drops, and 32 lands probably won't do that for very long. Once you empty your hand of land, drawing a rock actually slows down your mana compared to a land, and rocks are easier to destroy; Cyclonic Rift and Vandalblast hitting 1/3 of your mana sources really hurts, for example. The trio of diamond rocks are most cuttable; Coldsteel Heart is better. Gratuitous Violence and Phage the Untouchable are hardest to cast, so if your mana isn't consistent enough I think they must be the first suspects.

There are 13 board wipes, is it possible for that number to go down? I notice there are very few sources of direct card draw, so maybe the least good wipes can make room for that. Outpost Siege should always be on Khans, so Phyrexian Arena would serve better.

Open the Armory is a voltron staple, but this list has only 7 targets for it. Battle Mastery is a good one, and Loxodon Warhammer can replicate the function of Homicidal Seclusion. Tenza, Godo's Maul is super efficient. You can also add a negative aura so Open the Armory can function as removal. Replacing Banishing Light with Arrest for instance.

How has Lapse of Certainty been? Holding up 3 mana for a worse Cancel seems unexciting even if you are exploiting your opponents' color pie expectations, though I do like Not of This World and Rebuff the Wicked since it's much easier to hold up 0/1 mana, and Not of This World even counters abilities!

Nephalia Academy is a curious choice to me, I suppose discard is common in your meta?

As it's a rogue you might want to look into some prowl cards like: Morsel Theft, Thieves' Fortune, Stinkdrinker Bandit and Earwig Squad.

I don't like Loxodon Warhammer. The costs just seem high, and it's clunky with Cloak and Dagger. Some alternatives could be: Whip of Erebos and Homicidal Seclusion. Whip would be sweet with Royal Assassin! And homicidal seclusion could be surprisingly good.
