Hidden Retreat Discussion

OtherWorldlyShadow on Looking For a Card To …

Hidden Retreat might be a card that fills this niche, assuming you would have an instant or sorcery to target. You should also be able to target it as many times as you want, putting any number of cards from your hand onto your library to make sure you could not be forced to draw and lose.

+1 for Yennett!

I'd recommend including more Top of Library Manipulation cards and cards that allow you to return Bombs you draw to the top of the library. You can consider some of these:

Scroll Rack

Conch Horn

Penance

Agonizing Memories

Hidden Retreat

Daarkest Here're some of my recommendations:

Vampiric Tutor - Replace with Insidious Dreams . Cost more to cast but still lines up the top of your library at Instant speed.

Expropriate - You can consider Savor the Moment . Skipping the untap step doesn't hurt Yennett, Cryptic Sovereign as she has Vigilance but it'll affect your lands and mana rocks.

Grim Monolith / Mana Crypt - Leaving these out will hurt the tempo a little as they're key pieces for me to power out Yennett very early (Turns 1 - 3). Feel free to throw in any mana rocks in their place. Dark Ritual does provide the 1 time mana boost as well.

Mana Drain - Feel free to replace with any other counterspell of your choice. I'd still try to keep the CMC to 2 or less so we can imprint it on Isochron Scepter when needed.

Scroll Rack - Scroll Rack has 2 functions in this deck.

A) Puts "Bombs" I drawn back on top of the library - Agonizing Memories or Hidden Retreat are possible replacements for this effect.

B) Help filter and rearrange the top of my library - Any cards with Scry effect would work here, e.g. Seer's Lantern .

Which card you select as replacement is up to you and your preferred play style.

Hope this helps. Cheers!

+1 for Granny who plays MTG!

I'd recommend more ways for you to manipulate the top of your library to ensure the right cards can be cast for free by Yennett. Here're some recommendations:

Brainstorm, Ponder, Preordain and the likes.

Scroll Rack, Conch Horn, Penance, Hidden Retreat, Dream Cache are ways to put big cards you draw back to top of library.

Tutors like Vampiric Tutor, Cruel Tutor, Insidious Dreams, Personal Tutor and Liliana Vess can fetch cards to the top of your library.

I saw you playing Debtors' Knell so you may be keen to consider Rise of the Dark Realms too.

I play a creatureless Yennett deck, you can check it out and hopefully draw some inspirations from it.

Penance has been doing some good work in my deck as I activate it to put a bomb I unfortunately drew in my hand onto the top of the library, while Yennett's triggered ability is on the stack.

I forgot to mention Hidden Retreat which is another possible top of library manipulation card, though slightly more restrictive.

Here's some hidden gems for top deck manipulation, which don't see much play, but are pretty awesome in my deck - Penance and Dimir Machinations.

There's also Hidden Retreat and Agonizing Memories so you can pick which of them suit your play style. The latter has the added benefit of delaying your opponent's draw by 2 turns if you used it on him/her.

Leaving the link to my Creatureless Yennett deck here so we can trade pointers going forward. Cheers!
