Why do I have so much trouble attacking a walker?

1) expendable creatures- especially in an aristocrat or token deck.

2) big-butt creatures- walls, or most of the creatures in the Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis deck my buddy runs.

3) pillow forts- Haunter of Nightveil effects, Crawlspace , etc.

4) rattlesnakes- particularly Ophiomancer and Ogre Slumlord .

Blue does have counterspells, yes. But for a counter to be effective, two criteria have to be met:

1) you need to be in a place where you can keep 2 or 3 mana up, which often means not casting a spell or activating an ability when you want to.

2) the countered threat needs to be worth the loss of a card, which stalling a commander temporarily is not, unless your opponent won’t be able to cast him for the next few turns.

These criteria can’t consistently be met before you hit 6-ish mana. Counters are just a loss of card advantage against a commander, except in some very specific cases.

Also your argument based on the odds of drawing a given card is invalid in the case of a commander, which you will have invariably every single game.

Anyway. You’re right, PlatinumOne, I have been hating on planeswalkers a lot, for all of the above reasons. I think they slow down gameplay significantly and are overall obnoxious to play against.

I'd suggest getting this to become a grixis control deck, in which removal, board wipes, and a bit of prison if possible, things like discard outlets (Call the Bloodline) into Ensnaring Bridge could be fun, or whatever floats you boat (Moat).

Some good pillow fort for grixis:

Fortune Thief

Circle of Flame

Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs

Dissipation Field

Jace, Architect of Thought (It is cheap because of the Duel Deck!)

Ogre Slumlord

Shipwreck Singer

Godhead of Awe (5 blue is harsh, but technically...)

Haunter of Nightveil

Kulrath Knight

Thunderstaff

Silent Arbiter

Platinum Angel

Platinum Emperion

Orbs of Warding

Ensnaring Bridge

Crawlspace

I will make some new comments for the removal and board wipes later.

Favorite card in general? Either Darkness or Haunter of Nightveil. I own haunter in foil and the art on it is beautiful. Favorite card to play with is probably either Faithless Looting, Baleful Strix, Stoneforge Mystic, or Deathrite Shaman.

You need to focus more on your Cipher. For that, we need more unblockable creatures, such as Gudul Lurker, Triton Shorestalker, or Dimir Infiltrator. I would take out the Dimir Charms or Haunter of Nightveil and put some of these guys in. If you are going to mill, mill hard. More Paranoid Delusions. Whispering Madness would also fit really nice in here if you wanted to go the discard/mill route.

Merfolk Spy would also be a nice sideboard choice in my opinion considering who you would use it against.

Haunter of Nightveil is my favorite. Also Unsummon, but only the M13 version because of the flavor text. Almost to 600 upvotes!

I like Haunter of Nightveil better, but that's because it's my favorite card. It seems pretty do-nothing to me, tbh.
