5/25/2021 Update - completed Glen Elendra Pranksters (Klefki) and Drover of the Mighty (Onix).

Klefki was the best choice for the Pranksters because Klefki is fairy type, has the Prankster ability, has moves which protect allies similar to Pranksters' effect, and Pranksters' flavor text is about a "faerie ring". So yeah I will fight you if you try to tell me I picked the wrong poke for this one.

Drover of the Mighty's mtg art reminded me of Brock and Onix, so that's why I chose Onix for this one. I may foil-peel a Brock card and stick him on there. Thoughts?

seshiro_of_the_orochi oh but Thought Harvester is the linch pin! Paired with Glen Elendra Pranksters , a flash enabler, and enough cost reducers like Umori, the Collector to enable free morphs, the Harvester will exile all the opps' libraries.

I'm going to pull Humble Naturalist for the Vizier. That'll put us down to 8 mana dorks which is less ramp than I typically like, but the Vizier is worth it.

Thanks again for the great suggestions!

Thank you! I just love the Yu-Gi-Oh! theme here. Haha. The deck has only gotten better since I first built it, and it plays really well even if the bounce combo requires a lot of pieces and seems convoluted.

These are all interesting suggestions. Here are my thoughts on them:

Centaur Omenreader Not as good as our other cost reducers, I think, only because it has to be tapped. With Earthcraft it’s fine and a cheaper Ugin although the latter can also function as removal or card advantage which I think is worth the two additional mana. I think it could work if you play with more ways to tap creatures.

Tangleroot I like this one. It could help with storming off especially if we’re chaining creatures and digging through the library. Also infinite mana with our free bounce combo, but that’s win-more. Good card but not sure how I’d slot it in. Currently I don’t feel like I’m missing it, but it could definitely do work.

Glen Elendra Pranksters Faerie Tauntings While it’s true that we ideally want to play under Prophet of Kruphix, that doesn’t always happen. I feel these would be dead draws otherwise. I love the idea of having either out in magical Christmas land, though.

Glimpse of Nature Cheaper than Beast Whisperer and Guardian Project but only a sorcery. I’m not really feeling it only for the lack of reusability outside pulling it from the yard. That being said I can see this being a good play. This has the potential for some explosive draws for 1 mana which is nothing to turn your nose up at. In the right situations it could dig pretty hard. Personally I think I’d still prefer the permanents so I can continue digging on future turns including my opponents’.

Thought Harvester Basically this could be another finisher. I wouldn’t replace Aetherflux Reservoir or Words of Wind with it, but it could be an alternate to Altar of the Brood which I just replaced. They essentially function the same except this exiles the cards rather than milling them which is just better. Not for me, I think, but this easily a good card to have if someone wants to go that route.

Opposition This is not a bad idea. Could be another way to stall opponents or lock them out completely with enough morphs and Seedborn Muse. Slots have gotten really tight in this deck lately, but this is one I’d heavily consider.

All relevant suggestions and none I’d really consider before. Thanks for the added perspective!

VanderW on Yasova Wild Pair - Retired

Yeah, thanks for the upvote :)
I've had a lot of fun with the deck so far. I haven't managed to get much out of the Wild Pair package. Since there are no actual tutors in the deck for getting out enchantments that's been a bit difficult.
I'm actually considering Gamble and Long-Term Plans as 'soft' tutors purely for the Wild Pair and once I've got that for cards such as Vicious Shadows and Warstorm Surge .

The deck is still pretty new, and I'm still fine-tuning it. I've now only played it four times since I've been busy with other stuff lately:

  • Game 1: Won through getting value out of an early Momir Vig, Simic Visionary , keeping it safe with the counter creatures and smashing face with Forgotten Ancient and Master Biomancer making my team bigger.
  • Game 2: It was a five-player game where the first one to knock the two opponents directly to the left and right of you wins: Kept board-control and ramp up with Yasova Dragonclaw and Perilous Forays . Almost died to a ridiculous Arixmethes-huge-stompy-creatures deck, but turned it around with the Reins of Power I was sitting on (such an over-performer). And later shared my victory as our shared opponent got knocked out by the other player.
  • Game 3: regrettably had to spend most of my time and resources on an Orzhov player that kept recurring the Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite that rendered the rest of my cards mostly useless. Later everyone got kicked out by a combo player going off
  • Game 4: Didn't win, didn't get quite the engines going that I wanted to. But the game (5-player FFA) was crazy enough as it is.

I would say that for now the deck is good enough at battlefield control (particularly creatures), but as I mentioned I want to look into options that make the Wild Pair actually work (in none of the games I drew it so far).
I've since added Warstorm Surge , because that card can do stupid things once you get something like Glen Elendra Pranksters or other bounce and some ramp or control creatures. I've added Ambush Viper to go along with that. Swapped those for Llanowar Elves (in our meta often not dependable ramp since it's too fragile) and Briarhorn , since it having flash mattered less for the creatures it could look up and Yasova can usually steal enough interesting creatures with just 4 power.
Apart from the tutors I'm considering adding Purphoros, God of the Forge , since the incremental damage can quickly add up and the +1/+0 is actually really nice for Yasova, but I only have one copy of Purph and it's a key part of my Wort, the Raidmother deck.

I actully like this setup. I agree that its a little unfocussed. I reccomned one change- A transformative sideboard rather than an 'answers' sideboard.

'Side 15' sounds like a bad joke, but 15 cards is enough to completely transform from tempo to control, and can transform bad matchups by drastically moving your critical turns. Even against matchups that 'demand' specific answers (dredge, tron), a lot can be done just by shifting the kind of deck that you are- tron has issues if you just combo out, dredge has issues if you run more bounce effects etc.

Even if you're siding in the same 15 cards each game, if you're removing 'dead' cards from your deck you are creating a big advantage. It really helps maintain that 'diverse' feeling with less performance impact.

Getting used to switching out different cards for different gameplans in that way will also help further refine your mainboard, by identifying cards you're always removing (or never enjoying) and spotting cards you're always reintroducing.

In terms of how that transformative board is structured, I'd hide a set of Geist of Saint Traft in there, (as a clock against high-interaction decks, which the wizard tribe is unfortunately lacking), and run spells that you're plainly considering maindeck- your wraths, extra bounce tools, and wizards. I'd even go so far as to hide a Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir/Knowledge Pool lock as a 2-of, or run Vedalken AEthermage for wizardcycling to fetch a similar low-key combo. Augur of Bolas is also well worth a look, while less efficient that snappy, and sorcery speed, works wonders as extra functional copies.

Also, for fun, flavour-filled cards with various viability; (with some synergy!) check out Fatespinner, Glen Elendra Pranksters, Jace's Archivist Lullmage Mentor Meddling Mage Mistbind Clique Mistmeadow Witch Mizzium Meddler, Naban, Dean of Iteration Sage of Fables Sigil Tracer Simic Manipulator Spellstutter Sprite Talrand, Sky Summoner Timestream Navigator Treasure Mage Venser, Shaper Savant and Voidmage Prodigy.

I assume Bitterblossom is not in here for budge reasons but it really would be a fantastic card in the deck. With that said your fairies are a bit lacking. The quality of the creatures is quite low and I know that fairies don't have a large pool to pull from but there are options you haven't considered. Here are some suggestions. Adaptive Automaton, Door of Destinies, Cairn Wanderer, Shapesharer, Amoeboid Changeling, Cloud of Faeries, Quickling, Spellstutter Sprite, Glen Elendra Pranksters, and Inspired Sprite.

Have you ever thought of running Glen Elendra Pranksters? It's useful as a utility creature on it's own, but if you were willing to also add in Mistbind Clique, it means your opponents NEVER get to use their lands as long as you have an additional faerie/shapeshifter on the battlefield for the champion a faerie ability. I just know from experience that the pranksters are amazing in any deck that likes flash and etbs. You don't have a ton of etb creatures but your deck does enjoy playing shit on other people's turns, and locks, so I figured it was worth suggesting. At the very least the pranksters could help you get more value from Eternal Witness, Mystic Snake and Glen Elendra Archmage.
