Firecannon Blast

Sorcery

Firecannon Blast deals 3 damage to target creature.

Raid — Firecannon Blast deals 6 damage to that creature instead if you attacked with a creature this turn.

plakjekaas i'm not gonna count bounce spells, because it can just be recast. the spells that take away abilities or tap down a creature are typically permanents that can be removed, and the opponent just gets their creature again. blue is not doing better than red, especially when you're still leaving the opponent a creature. red is definitely better removal when the majority of it also has the option of targeting players and planeswalkers, and thats why it cost more mana.

Aftershock, Fall of the Hammer, Blitz of the Thunder-Raptor, Dogpile, Firecannon Blast, Firestorm.

Maybe I misunderstood you, but there's a decent amount of cannons on the art of the Ixalan block: Bombard, Cancel, Elaborate Firecannon, Firecannon Blast, Lightning-Rig Crew, Makeshift Munitions & Storm the Vault  Flip. I think what stands out more is the absence of personal firearms for pirates in favor of crossbows; see e.g. Dinosaur Hunter & Storm Fleet Swashbuckler.

Gameguy39 on Izzet Drakes Ultra Budget

Instead of using the Pteramander , I would highly recommend using Goblin Electromancer . It will make your cards cost less so that they can be used more readily. If you are going for budget and are using more expensive versions of better cards, then using Electromancer really helps with casting them during the game. I have used Pteramander many times and every time I use him it is too slow for my liking.

There is also a card I have been liking called Depose / Deploy . It has a nice effect in tapping a creature if you need it, and there is no need to splash another color with the hybrid mana. Plus it draws you a card and gives you 1 tick for your drakes.

If you want to make sure that you have enough tempo in order to last into the late game, you may want to take a look at Murmuring Mystic . He has a nice ability, though he does have a pretty high CMC. I have found that he is a very good sideboard card against token decks.

If you use Goblin Electromancer , you will almost always have a wizard on the field. You want him to be in your starting hand so you can play him turn two, so if you decide to go that route I would take a look at Wizard's Retort and Wizard's Lightning . They both cost significantly less with a wizard on the board, but they also cost less with electromancer in general.

As far as straight up damage goes, you have the obvious Lightning Strike , which would just be the same as a lightning bolt if you have the Electromancer. If you are looking for something more though, you can look at Direct Current . Little harder to cast because of the two red symbols, but it also has Jump-Start, so you can cast it again from the graveyard. Firecannon Blast Is essentially the same, but it has that raid trigger to do 6 damage instead if you attack (which you will be). Fight with Fire also gives you more options, as you can either choose to deal 5 damage to a creature or kick it to deal 10 wherever you want.

As far as drawing cards so that you can get your instants and sorceries into the graveyard and your drakes on the field, one of the best budget ones that I have found is Chemister's Insight . It also has the jump-start ability so you can use it again. Radical Idea is basically a smaller version of that. Warlord's Fury is a low CMC card that will draw you a card and also give all your things first strike. I found it helpful sometimes, but not enough to keep it in my deck. Something like Arrester's Admonition could also be useful with it sending a creature back to its owner's hand, but I have not tested it enough to know if it is super viable.

The version of the drake deck that I play can be found at Draken' My Bacon. I tend to run a more aggro version of the drake deck that focuses on getting the drakes out as soon as possible and casting as many spells as I can. I also have all of the expensive cards vs the non-expensive ones, but I only got that over time. I started out where you are with a budget version.

Hey, Fight with Fire in my opinion is a better card than Firecannon Blast. It's the same CMC, sorcery and it does 5 damage right away to a creature. With the amount of Goblins you can have with Prospector you can possibly kick Fight making it also a win condition. 10 damage to opponent is a lot or choose damage a lot of stuff on the battlefield.

Skizzik is a nice aggressive curve topper. 5/3 trample and haste for four mana is good, kicking it for one is also not hard.

Consider Wily Goblin? It helps for some crazy turns with Prospector, Siege-Gang even Skizzik?

4x Arch seems like too many because of Chainwhirler. Arch is good, but not good enough to possibly disrupt your ability to play Chainwhirler. Consider cutting 3x Arch for 3x more Mountains?

Good luck with your deck.

Argy on Ixalan Pro Tour predictions

I am VERY bad at predicting what decks will play off in the Pro Tour finals.

Although I am sometimes able to guess which cards will make a splash.

I thought it might be fun to try to guess, anyway. Feel free to weigh in.

It seems to me that, ever since Mardu Vehicles, each Pro Tour a different Aggro Deck has come out swinging.

We've had Black Zombies, and also Ramunap Red.

My guess would be another Aggro contender will emerge, particularly given the fact that the Creature-heavy meta has meant a shift towards Control decks, and Temur Energy.

As for cards played, these are ones I think we will see:

I think Walk the Plank will see more play than people initially expected.

I would also not be surprised to see some decks run copies of Dreamcaller Siren.

Firecannon Blast may see some play in a deck based around the Raid mechanic.

I would love to see a deck based around Revel in Riches place, but I think that is an outside shot.

I feel that Carnage Tyrant won't see much play. Initially it was very popular with Tammy/Timmy players, but I think too many decks now pack Sideboard cards that handle it. If Aggro decks are prevalent it will be too slow.

Those are my predictions. What are yours?

I'd put in some Firecannon Blast if you can make room for it. Easy way to take care of a few bigger dinosaurs you may come across (or the flyers that you can't deal with)

Speaking of flyers, what do you think about adding in Kitesail Freebooter in place of the Wanted Scoundrels? Same cost, but more helpful to you alive getting rid of some of your opponents nastier enchcantments and sorcerers while providing you with a turn 2 flyer. Also, gives you insight as to what your opponent has in hand. Let's you better strategize.
