When Fanatic of Xenagos enters the battlefield, if tribute wasn't paid, it gets +1/+1 and gains haste until end of turn.

It is a 3-drop so it makes sense to replace something else in that spot, just not sure what until testing it fairly.

DemonDragonJ compared adapt to monstrous. Looking at the "creatures with +1/+1 counters gain...", parallels to outlast could be drawn as well.
Seen this way, riot seems like they took the best card with tribute (Fanatic of Xenagos) and made a gruul mechanic out of it. Pretty awesome.

Nice budget deck but a few cards seem weak in an aggro deck even on budget standards. Perhaps they are not but just in case I figured I could suggest some other budget alternatives. Hope these help.
Banefire seems weak/situational for an aggro deck
Ghor-Clan Rampager to top the curve/ give uncounterable +4/+4 to a creature for two mana
Hellrider to deal a great deal of damage
Hero of Oxid Ridge for the top of the curve
Lightning Mauler doesn't fit well because it is a nonbo with both Fanatic of Xenagos and Flinthoof Boar. Lightning Mauler is something that needs a follow up and the two cards which would be most impactful with haste already have haste. This results in soulbinding with a one drop (one of which is Experiment One which is better when it evolves over multiple turns and not just charging in as a 1/1 or 2/2). It could be good but seems awkward in the list.
Magma Jet seems too mana intensive for such little damage. Scry 2 doesn't seem to make up for it's lack of impact.

Updated Deck - Version 1.2
The goals of this change are to speed up the casting of my best creatures by a turn or two, improve the reliability of finding the payload creatures,and decrease the mana curve a bit.
3x Orcish Lumberjack - Fast mana in this deck's colors
3x Fierce Empath - Tutors the critical pieces
1x Forest - Small increase, as the Lumberjacks both help color balancing and consume Forests. May end up swapping 1 more Mountain for another Forest.

Looking at this one again lately for possible upgrades. I'm considering the following changes.
The point of the changes is to get the most important elements of the deck out more quickly and reliably.

I'm not sure I would describe your deck as slow, but it does seem to be lacking card draw and must answer threats outside of Steel Leaf Champion and the obvious Bloodbraid Elf. So here is my suggestions to try and improve your draw and answers:
Replace Vines of Vastwood with Ghor-Clan Rampager, the Rampager can be played as a pump spell or used as a creature.
Swap 1x Scavenging Ooze for a Fauna Shaman, this could be a last ditch way to find the creature you need.
Cut Rancor and replace it with Experiment One, this is a valid threat rather than a boost to an existing threat.
Swap 1x Boggart Ram-Gang for either 1x Reclamation Sage or 1x Eternal Witness the other 3x should probably be swapped for Jund Hackblade or Fanatic of Xenagos, if you were running mountains then I'd suggest Flinthoof Boar.
Note this is just what I'd do, good luck and have fun brewing your deck.

There are not nearly enough draw engines, too many trample enablers. Arlinn Kord Flip is strong, but unnecessary. Her +1/+1 trample anthem takes two turns to go off and the rest of her abilities (aside from her ult) have zero synergy. Gruul War Chant is less expensive and gives a better pay off immediately. You don't need a trample static buff, when everyone already has trample. Hazoret's Monument gives a reduction in CMC for cast spells, but the discard/draw effect is a gamble and unnecessary compared to a simple draw engine, which actually gives you card advantage (i.e. Soul of the Harvest). Tana, the Bloodsower may have trample, but at 4 CMC for a 4/4 (post swing) is not really that much kick. Something Faster could be put in it's place. Mina and Denn, Wildborn is just a 4 cost Azusa, Lost but Seeking, and the trample effect is redundant. For 7 CMC Pelakka Wurm is weak in value, compared to other high CMC cards that could be ran. Fanatic of Xenagos is cheap, but aside from being a fatty (with or without haste) it's kind of a one note card, there's already enough big creatures on the field, he doesnt bring anything to the table aside from strength. Skarrg Guildmage is redundant as is Khenra Charioteer. Atarka, World Render is not worth the seven, sure she hit's hard but is not as strong as double damage cards that buff ALL your creatures. Deus of Calamity has to be blocked by a creature with 2 or less toughness, otherwise he's not doing anything. Ghor-Clan Rampager is just a titanic growth. Slith Predator is boring, a +1/+1 counter is not much. There is not nearly enough draw in here, too many trample enablers, too few value cards, not enough bombs. Why have so much ramp, when there is too little draw, and not enough high CMC value cards? You removed gold cards from my schematics like Genesis Wave, Rage Reflection, Insult, Gruul War Chant, Elemental Bond, Soul of the Harvest, Rapacious One, Moldgraf Monstrosity, Lurking Predators, Garruk's Horde, Hunter's Prowess, Veilstone Amulet, and Harvest Season. The utter lack of value, draw power, and game ending cards is my only skepticism. That being said, I think Gruul Keyrune, One with Nature, Destructive Urge, and Hellkite Tyrant would be great additions. Also, why 37 lands?

I pulled the 3x Tireless Tracker and Im currently running 3x Strangleroot Geist. But Im very interested in testing Fanatic of Xenagos. It seems like a very strong card and I would like to know if anyone remembers playing with it or is currently running it in their build. Thanks for comments so far.
