Extinguish All Hope Discussion
Thank you for taking the time to write down all those suggestions.
I did have a lot of Basic lands, I replaced eight of them with Dimir Guildgate, Temple of Deceit, Sunken Hollow, Smoldering Marsh, Temple of Malice, Crumbling Necropolis, Vivid Marsh and Barren Moor. I also cut Mycosynth Wellspring < Gem of Becoming and Manalith < Fellwar Stone which I think are superior.
I followed your advice and replaced a few removals and less good board wipes. Sudden Death < Doom Blade, Consuming Vapors < Dreadbore, Grasp of Darkness < Cemetery Recruitment, Extinguish All Hope < Victimize and In Garruk's Wake < Syphon Flesh.
Still tweaking a few things left and right, let me know what you think. Thanks !

Ok ok so, i have a commander deck with Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund as the commander. The deck itself has functioned pretty well up until recently, i have been getting completely rekt early game. Do keep in mind i have not been playing long and do not have a great understanding of cards or of a good build, in fact this is the first deck i have ever built. All i really need help with is early game because dinos have been destroying me as of late. The deck is built as follows:i have no clue what im doing dragons

You've given me a lot to think about. So, one at a time:
- Extinguish All Hope is definitely going in here; it just sings to the deck's theme so well I'm a bit ashamed for not noticing it earlier; I just need to acquire one. I think I'd cut Beseech the Queen for it.
- Draw is a bit light I admit. If I'd add any of your suggestions, it would probably be Greed. However, I'm having a hard time deciding what to cut for it; maybe Helm of the Gods.
- I don't want to go overboard with the stax, so Quandary and Nevermore won't make the cut.
Thanks for helping me (and the upvote).

Hey NV_1980.First of all, thank you for commenting on my deck. I really appreciate the feedback.Secondly, this looks like an AWESOME deck. When I started in commander my first deck was a Daxos the Returned deck and I loved it but unfortunately couldn't stick with it.I do have a few suggestion, however. Looking over your list I noticed that you didn't have any board wipes. I don't know what your playgroup is like but I know in mine it's essential to run at least a few. A great one I found for a deck like this is Extinguish All Hope. The amount of card draw in the deck also seems a bit scarce. In my experience you should be aiming for about 5-10 cards that can draw you cards, so maybe adding some cards like Ancient Craving, Greed or Necropotence may help. Also, if you are going heavy on the stax theme, you might like to consider painful quandry and maybe even Nevermore. I hope that this helps. :D

I love nekusar and everything about him, I started building him as soon as he was spoiled, and now have an insanely tuned and budgetless competitive multiplayer edh deck
Anyways, what would I recommend for budget casual constructed?
As you can see by my deck, i learned that nekusar loves Wheel of Fortune and is more of a spellslinger draw theme than zombie tribal.
That being said, if you want to build around the lich king, creatures should be your last priority,
In a 20 life format, nekusar only needs 3 "draw 7" or mass loot spells to kill an opponent, and thankfully a majority of these are cheap.
Second to wheels and forced draw, nekusar is kind of high cmc for a creature, so things like Nightscape Familiar can help you cast more spells faster, speaking of more spells, grixis has access to a beautiful array of rituals that you can chain into nekusar much earlier than turn 5 and also allow you to cast more wheels after refreshing your hand
The budget rituals include
Cards like Geth's Grimoire and Jace's Archivist can easily win you the game if left unchecked, and there are other forms of draw damage in Phyrexian Tyranny Fevered Visions Underworld Dreams Spiteful Visions
As far as cheap counterspells, Arcane Denial is BONKERS cuz it can deal draw damage with its draw, Sign in Blood is a cheap card draw that you can use to draw OR kill opponents by stacking it with nekusar.
Cards that save you from wheels decking you out
Other than "wheel" and countermagic, you can also mill opponents with Mindcrank or Sphinx's Tutelage, reanimate wheeled creatures with stuff like Stitch Together, or run discard like Despise or Duress, and Cephalid Coliseum is INSANE as a cheap 1-of in edh, id be scared to see what 3 or 4 could do.
Lastly, a spell decks worst weakmess is CREATURES
now im going to assume you're not going to be slinging Damnation around, but theres tons of budget alternatives in the likely case that opponents will have more creatures than you
And if you're still itching to run creatures even though i would not advise many, here are a few options thar nekusar has liked in the past
Hope this helps

Maybe add Extinguish All Hope just for flavor, but seems like a fun build. +1 from me.

Oh! I can't believe I never noticed- Isochron Scepter seems like a no-brainer, since it lets you cast something cheap over and over(Bubbling Muck or Hero's Demise for example, or Doom Blade/spot removal to trigger using it again.
Crypt Ghast is super good too, since it gives you more ramp(and it counts as mono-black for color identity)

lilgiantrobot Thanks for the suggestions!
I hadn't realized Consume the Meek had gotten so low! I don't mind barter/innocent blood, but I'd rather run targeted removal like Murder or Tragic Slip. However, you got me thinking about Drown in Sorrow which might get cycled in.
I don't really see Rise from the Tides being win-con, even if I replaced all the auras with instants/sorcies, since EDH always feels so mass-removal heavy. Same with the pike That's down to taste though.
A lot of the aura choices are based around doubling-up on saving Wydwen, to make her really annoying to remove(because either they pop one of the totems, or something like Shade's Form, or you just dump the mana and bounce her to hand.)-and remember, those 'return to play' enchantments can be layered on to opponents creatures, then killed with Tragic Slip or Extinguish All Hope to bring them back under the player's control.
Artful Dodge is amazing and I can't believe I forgot it though, so it's getting put in for Vampiric Link. Dropping Dismiss into Dream for Drown in Sorrow since I realized I don't have too much that targets anyway(it's from when I was fooling around with the build to decide what to do).
