Evolution Vat Discussion

Not sure if this counts, but Evolution Vat and Crystalline Crawler get you infinite mana of any color (if the 'Crawler has 7 counters on it). Technically a colorless combo, but needs to be in at least a Simic deck for EDH.

ThallionDarkshine: Glaring Spotlight has won me enough games that I don't think I'll ever get rid of it haha. And Evolution Vat is cool, it can pull double duty as an offense or defense card, tapping down your opponents' creatures or making yours huge.

I recently took out Swiftfoot Boots, which was probably stupid of me... I'll definitely find a slot to put it back in. And Temur Sabertooth is one of my favorite green cards (that I totally forgot about) - I'll definitely find a spot for it in here! Devoted Druid was another option I was considering, but I felt it had the same problem as Gyre Sage so I dismissed it. I'll try it out for a few games though, and see how I like it.

Thank you for your feedback! I'll make sure I take a look at your deck later tonight when I get off of work. I probably shouldn't even be writing this comment right now :P

This deck looks super sweet! I love the Glaring Spotlight to let you target stuff or give your team unblockable, and Evolution Vat is an incredibly cool card that I never knew existed.

However, I think you could benefit greatly from some sort of a haste enabler, since you can't always rely on sticking a board to buff with Ezuri. Swiftfoot Boots is probably the best one available that works with Ezuri. In addition, I like Temur Sabertooth as an additional way to help protect yourself against board wipes or removal, letting you bounce your board in response to removal. In addition, it can function similarly to Deadeye Navigator or Nephalia Smuggler for abusing etb effects. Finally, Devoted Druid is a great mana dork, since it can not only ramp you into Ezuri, but also can generate lots of mana with some +1/+1 counters, letting you accelerate out your big threats.

Check out my Ezuri list for more inspiration:

I've also been playing Ezuri for quite some time, and just love all the different directions you can go with him.

Have only briefly glossed over this deck, but it seems like Evolution Vat and Sage of Hours and could well serve as additional combo pieces for you. Azor's Elocutors might also be a possibility, only it requires you to hit your upkeep before it lets you win, which may be too unreliable in a deck like this.

To clarify a bit Artifacts also follow the rules of colour identity. Godsend or Blinding Souleater would be legal with your commander--the former has a White color identity as a component of its mana cost, and the latter as a component of its activated ability. Contrarily Courier's Capsule and Evolution Vat would not be legal, as they do not have White colour identities.

I run Sigil of the Empty Throne in a deck that is 43% enchantments--it has been a powerful finisher in that deck, but the deck's construction is absurdly skewed toward enchantments. I am not sure it would work well in most other decks, but wanted to mention it as you wanted an angelic theme.

Paradox Engine + Isochron Scepter allows for some infinite combos if you are running a large number of mana rocks. You can use it for casting Holy Day on each opponents' turn in the early game, and eventually use to pump out infinite mana, for cards such as Entreat the Angels (which fits the angel host theme you said you wanted).

Some other cards to consider:

  • Mesa Enchantress - card advantage
  • Lightmine Field - strong pillowfort card, particularly against wide decks. However, if your win condition involves attacking with lots of creatures, you might want to forgo this one.
  • Darksteel Mutation - removes an enemy commander without giving the opponent an option to return the target to the command zone.
  • Consulate Crackdown - remove their mana rocks, and any remaining threat your opponents might be.

Also if you have a million mana, Evolution Vat can be amazing, but the greatest +1/+1 counter card you missed goes to... drumroll

Kalonian Hydra! I don't even need to explain this one!
