Edge of Malacol

Plane — Belenon

If a creature you control would untap during your untap step, put two +1/+1 counters on it instead. Whenever you roll a Chaos Symbol, untap each creature you control.

Nah, the other planes can be invaded, although I'm curious to see what happens in Lorwyn. So it really does affect every set-centric plane.

My next list is the unvisited Planechase planes (not including whatever new material I haven't seen): Kephalai, Kolbahan, Equilor, Luvion, Belenon, Muraganda, Moag, Fabacin, Pyrulea, Valla (if it's not too similar to Kaldheim, which it's apparently a broken-off chunk of), Mongseng (not going to return, completely replaced by Tarkir), Azgol, Arkhos (thematically replaced by Theros), Karsus, Regatha, Naar Isle, Bolas's Meditation Realm (oh no), Serra's Realm (seen in bits and pieces), Xerex, Kinshala, Iquatana, Segovia, Kyneth, Vryn (briefly seen in Magic Origins), Ergamon, and Ir.

I'd like to see Belenon avoid the conflict. Between Windriddle Palaces and Edge of Malacol, it's not going to be a one-note Earth-adjacent plane. Equilor also has two cards, with Bloodhill Bastion and The Eon Fog, but that one looks less diverse and interesting. I'm willing to be proven wrong, since it shows up in one of the novels, but it's basically described as old and forgotten, where Urza's arrival was the only thing to happen in hundreds of thousands of years.

gupp7, and anyone pushing for historical planes: I very much disagree that a non-historical plane has to be limited. What everything in a world was partially metal? What if that world became a place that rejected organic life? That's how Mirrodin and New Phyrexia came around. What if a world broke into five mutually exclusive parts, then suddenly recombined? That's Alara. It's a fantasy game. If you start with a fantasy premise, you get a fantasy result. That's fantasy. If you start with the Age of Exploration, except there's dinosaurs in Mesoamerica, the conquistadores are vampires, and there's some random fish people, you get Ixalan. That's historical fantasy.

Also, they don't have to be small planes. Our current knowledge of Amonkhet is one city in a desert, and there's no evidence of anything anywhere else. That plane doesn't have to be any larger than the Nile River delta plus some of the surrounding area. It's smaller than a fairly small region in a fairly small country. I think that's more gimmicky than Mirrodin or Alara, which have lots of space to explore. The Windriddle Palaces and Edge of Malacol of Belenon are more different in apparent theme than any two places on Innistrad or Theros, but we know nothing about them.

Just to make up a couple of potential planes, what if the four classical elements were the guiding forces of a world? What if the world was a cave system with no outside? What if you could only get to a section of a plane while you're sleeping, and it's actually created by lucid dreaming? To me, those are more interesting premises than What if I could learn everything about a plane in five minutes with a history textbook and mythology guide? Yes, it would require more creation, but that's why there's a creative team. Their job is literally to create a world.

I need to say here that I would be very happy with a Nordic ice world, and it and Polynesia are my top choices for real-world inspiration. But it's hard to maintain the reason I enjoy fantasy, the feeling of exploration and learning about a world, when everything has a one-on-one correlation with Earth, the real planet we really live on, and its documented real history.

ABadMagicPlayer100 on Custom Set - Belenon

I've been looking for inspiration to get started on a custom set for a while now. After last week's Magic Story, I was thinking it would be neat if there was a plane where all of the denizens were aware of the existence of other planes, but I couldn't figure out a plausible lore reason for this.

The other day, I was looking at buying up all of the Planechase planes I don't own already, and I thought that Windriddle Palaces was a super unique ability. Upon closer examination, I noticed that Edge of Malacol is set on the same plane: Belenon. There is no obvious connection between the two plane cards other than they both do weird things.

I realized that the perfect connection for these two issues would be if, long ago, some major event on Belenon tore a rift in the fabric of the plane, causing the Blind Eternities and other planes to be visible in the sky of certain parts of Belenon, causing strange magical events to occur all across the plane.

I plan to start designing this set soon, and I'd like some help hashing out mechanics and lore.

I really like the Bomat Courier ability of exiling cards face down. I'd like to make this a keyword action called "inscribe," which could trigger for various reasons. Cards could then perform actions on cards that have been inscribed on them. Here's a concept card I have:

Concept Show

I'd like to add one or two more keywords and one ability word (like battalion from RTR block if you are unfamiliar).

Also, to anyone who is an artist, I need a cool set symbol. I can't do art well at all, and it's near-impossible to find custom set symbols online. To anyone who is willing to help out, thanks!

What are all of your thoughts? I think this one will be fun to design.
