First, for future reference, the Commander Deck Help forum is used when you have questions about a deck you are building. If you have questions about how a certain card works, or the interaction between multiple cards, please use the Rules Q&A section of this site. There's usually a couple players lurking there who will answer your questions in fairly short order. I've taken the liberty of moving your thread.

Moving on to your question, this will not work.

Identity Thief's trigger occurs during the declare attackers step. Once you declare it as an attacker, its ability goes on the stack and resolves, still during the declare attackers step.

Base power/Toughness are values that are copied. So, when you use your Identity Thief to copy a Giant Spider, Identity Thief will now be a 2/4.

Then we move into the declare blockers step. At this point, your Identity Thief no longer has a power or toughness less than 1, so it can be blocked.

Compare to Dwarven Warriors. If Dwarven Warriors activated its ability targeting Identity Thief, Identity Thief could not be blocked even after it transforms. Dwarven Warriors, unlike Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive, only cares about Power at the time the ability is activated. This would have a lasting impact on Identity Thief, even after Identity Theif's power became greater than 2. In fact, this was referenced in the card's Alpha text: Dwarven Warriors.

Apocalypse may be a better fit for board wipe. Also maybe put some effects in there making Grenzo or another small creature unblockable (Dwarven Warriors comes to mind). Finally, Fireblast looks like it'd be a perfect fit for this deck.

MythicSpoiler is a good site that is pretty quick to compile spoilers from across the web. And of course the ability to see the cards from complete sets going back a ways is nice.

On the plus side, dwarves could be cool if they look anything like Dwarven Warriors or Balthor. Maybe a Dwarven planeswalker!

No, I think that was something I missed when I cut Deepfathom Skulker I wanted to have a resilient source of colorless to make Shu Yun unblockable. Or I never committed to the Trinket Mage as Civic Wayfinder package.

The one thing I was meaning to add in, that I did completely forget is Runechanter's Pike Definitely over Spear of Heliod because it's on flavor and a beating all in one.

The Jhessian Balmgiver was definitely a fun find when digging for ways to make Shu Yun unblockable because all the red versions of Dwarven Warriors don't jibe with Shu Yun's 3 power. Which is legitimately the only time I wish he had 2 power instead of 3.

I definitely need more rebound, and actually have a Distortion Strike sitting in my binder, but it just didn't meet the criteria for the challenge. Might just have to cheat and put it in anyway.
