Hex Parasite & Arixmethes, Slumbering Isle

No, I'm afraid not. In EDH, all the cards in your deck must conform to the 'colour identity' of your Commander. Hex Parasite as a card doesn't have a colour, and as a permanent doesn't have a colour. But this is different from the colour identity of the card.

The colour identity is derived from the colour of the card + the colour of any mana symbols in its mana cost and rules text, except for reminder text.

  • Hex parasite has in its rules text, so it has a black colour identity.
  • Dust Stalker has in its mana cost, so it has a black & red colour identity.
  • Pontiff of Blight has only in its reminder text, so its colour identity doesn't include white.
  • Sphinx of the Guildpact as a card is all colours, so it has a WUBRG colour identity.

My only concern with Flayer Drone is its susceptibility to extremely cheap and efficient removal paired with the fact that it is a 3-drop. I have been considering it, I just don't know where it would slot in... That being said, Dust Stalker has the same issue with removal (but it's one of my favorites). I know the whole "dies to Doom Blade" argument is pretty meh, but I feel it is quite relevant in this instance. I wish the drone was a little bit beefier. The drain effect and first strike are quite good though.

I'll have to mull it over a bit.

Cool deck. Have you tried Dust Stalker? I run a version of this in standard. Emrakul, the Promised End is good as a one of. You have enough artifacts to give you a few card types in the graveyard. Plus Eldrazi Temple helps out.

Interesting deck, so +1, I have a few suggestions,

  1. Make sure that the hubs for this deck state both casual and gimmick, that way you don't have to say that you are playing casual, the hubs say it for you! (Just a little thing though)

  2. I get that this deck is RB which means it wants to be aggressive, but you have some shifting themes here, on one hand, you have aggressive beaters that can swing for a ton of damage, and then there Ulamog and Bane of Bala Ged which you will likely never cast in a single game (Good luck casting 7 & 10 drops with 22 lands) My first suggestion would be to cut Ulamog and Bane (I know they are fun but you likely won't cast them) and replace them with 2 more Dust Stalker and 1 more Endless One.

  3. Replace Processor Assault with Flame Slash, slash came from rise of the Eldrazi and does basically the same thing with way less cost.

  4. Behind the Scenes: Skulk would allow creatures like Sludge Crawler to get in for damage and allow you to Ingest cards without having to worry about blockers (they slither around). This would probably come in over Forerunner of Slaughter since the card just doesn't do too much imo.

  5. I'm not a particular fan of tap-lands, Sulfurous Springs would be ideal since you can play cards and effects for both anyway.

Vessel of Volatility is bad because it cost you card and doesn't affect the board state. While it is true that fast mana like Seething Song leads to degenerate strategies, Vessel of Volatility is too slow. With only 20 lands, you are going to have trouble playing any card with mana cost greater that 3. 20 Lands leads to one lander opening hands that are not keepable with your curve. Although haste is nice, I'd recommend focusing on an agro shell with cost efficient creatures such as Forerunner of Slaughter over Voldaren Duelist.

With respect to B/R, Unlicensed Disintegration is the best removal spell in standard because its a Terminate with a Lightning Bolt glued on.

You could even try a R/W build in Standard with cost effective one drops such as Expedition Envoy, Inventor's Apprentice, Thraben Inspector, Town Gossipmonger  Flip with Hanweir Garrison at the top of your curve. Maybe throw in Speedway Fanatic

If you really like Hasty stuff, the most powerful haste creatures in Standard are Dust Stalker and Fleetwheel Cruiser, and Lathnu Hellion. Reckless Bushwhacker has seen modern play in 12 whack, but is still powerful if you cast it for surge cost on turn three and have a bunch of 1 drops on board.

Finally, Reality Smasher has seen modern and legacy play. Although super strong, eldrazi haven't been seen in standard since the pain lands rotated out.

You have quite a few illegal cards in your deck at the moment. Emrakul, the Promised End has been banned from Standard play. And Akoum Refuge, Eldrazi Temple, Rocky Tar Pit, Consume the Meek and Forked Bolt are all not allowed in Standard. Overall, I like your deck idea. But cards like Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger and Kozilek, the Great Distortion are probably a bit too slow in this type of shell as you don't have much ramp going on. I would suggest either adding in more ramp spells or scion creators so you can reliably get to 10+ mana in a game, or I would take out the fatties and go for a more aggressive gameplan with a card like Dust Stalker (or something comparable) being your top end spell. Adding more Fiery Tempers will help out your burn plan, and a card like Shock could be a great way to interact early and also burn the opponent out of the game late. I would also suggest going up on Incendiary Flow as well, because it's a great way to burn the opponent, but also gets rid of Scrapheap Scrounger and other really annoying recursive creatures your deck will otherwise have a lot of trouble with. Good luck with your deck, hope it gets to where you want it to be!

I would first improve your land base with cards like Bloodstained Mire, Blood Crypt, Dragonskull Summit, Sulfurous Springs and Eldrazi Temple. I would replace some of your instants and sorceries with cards like Lightning Bolt, Terminate, and Dreadbore. As far as creatures go, I would recommend Thought-Knot Seer, Matter Reshaper, Reality Smasher and possibly Vile Aggregate.

As far as what I would replace, I would take out Reality Hemorrhage, Oblivion Strike, Touch of the Void, Ghostfire, and Dust Stalker because they all don't really do enough to justify their cost. I also see what you are doing with Molten Nursery, but I feel like it is also a little too slow.

Thanks for all the info! I'm aware of the low mana in this deck, it's something I've been trying to work on. I've really been thinking about dropping out Dust Stalker & Endless One altogether. Bring Forerunner of Slaughter back up to 4x and throw in 3x more to bring it up to 25.

I really like Scrapheap Scrounger & Wasteland Strangler. I think Wasteland Strangler would work well in this deck. I've been looking into bringing my count of Transgress the Mind up to 4x.

Grotesque Mutation & Dead Weight were two cards I wasn't big on being in this deck. I don't own any copys of Incendiary Flow but I do I have a set of Reality Hemorrhage that might hold me over for a little while.
