Drake Familiar

Creature — Drake

Flying

When Drake Familiar enters the battlefield, sacrifice it unless you return an enchantment in play to its owner's hand.

Darth_Savage while I agree Riptide Chimera would be a better creature to use, I'm mainly using Drake Familiar because it has 2 CMC, to proc Claim. So I can fetch it when it goes to the graveyard if needed.

Glimpse the Unthinkable might be good at a burn mill deck, but the 1->3 CMC to card ratio from Startled Awake  Flip comes close to the 1->5 ratio from glimpse, and it works as a creature on the graveyard, albeit a way overpriced one, but the option is at least there.

What I'm doing is that mill is the backup plan just in case my opponent heals more than I damage. The main plan is to lower life, while using things like Pristine Talisman/Sun Droplet/Dragon's Claw ETB life gain while using bounce duals from lands to facetank hits or stock up on life, etc.

The choice was either to get basic lands or remove artifact fetching from my lands, besides, barely anyone uses land removal.

Darth_Savage Yeah, this is probably my last time fixing this up idk.

I've decided to use Drake Familiar and also added Reality Acid for some synergy, so now I have 8 enchantment removals, if needed, alongside a combo that removes permanents twice.

I've also removed Crucible of Worlds fetching for it takes too long, and the payoff is the ability to use a land from the graveyard, with absolutely no way to properly use it, I've also replaced Ratchet Bomb with Trepanation Blade and Codex Shredder, there's no point in more permanent removal, especially if it's slow.

Plus, that means milling someone to death is now feasible, and I can remove Increasing Confusion for self-milling reasons and Golgari Thug for fetching creatures.

So now, I guess it's a good enough toolbox deck. Probably.

I think I understand what you are trying to do now, essentially you want to make what is refered to as a toolbox deck. Thing is your sort of in the wrong colours, traditionally would be the primary colours of the toolbox. The GW Toolbox uses cards like Chord of Calling and Eldritch Evolution to fish out creature based answers. In there isn't really an equivelent, however you could try cards like Disciple of Deceit to fetch answers. However answering enchantments outside GW is difficult, the best options are probably Kiora's Dismissal or Drake Familiar...

Eidolon of the Great Revel can be played around by using cards like Biting Rain or Morsel Theft, basically any card which has an alternative cost or a cost reduction as the Eidolon only checks the converted mana cost, not the cost you actually paid. I made a half hearted attempt at a sort of toolbox here Grixis Toolbox, it isn't really efficient enough, but it might help you out.

What would help more though is just running the low cost removal and killing Monastery Swiftspear and Eidolon the turn your opponent plays them, or near after. Trying to play around someone elses deck dilutes what your own deck is able to do. There is an article on wizards pages which covers this very topic https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/reconstructed/zero-sixty-2012-03-26 (apologies the link wouldn't work) I'd suggest you give it a read...

If you still want to build a toolbox deck then I'd suggest dropping Red in favour of Green, between Black Green and Blue you should be able to answer near enough everything...

I'd suggest Abrade or Ancient Grudge to help deal with artifacts, red doesn't really have any options for enchantments though. Blue has generic bounce cards like Boomerang and Eye of Nowhere, but they are normally better targeted at land if played, you could try Kiora's Dismissal or Drake Familiar if enchantments are a particular issue for you.

Hope that's of some help, good luck with your brew.

+1...This looks fun, not typical of UB pauper decks. Not sure if you know, Cloud of Faeries is banned in pauper...possible replacements to consider: Drake Familiar(good for resetting Unstable Mutation), Elusive Spellfist or Tidehollow Strix.

Maybe Drake Familiar as bounce for enchantments. Lightning Bolt is also an option for removal.

you can just replace your dragons with like some flavor wins still if you go that route. Like Drake Familiar, Scavenger Drake, Peregrine Drake, Spiketail Hatchling, Spiketail Drakeling. Scavenger Drake seems alright if you go with the token route of Conspiracy and Xenograft and Day of the Dragons. There are some decent UB token generators out there and this could be a fun way to use them.
