Deny Reality

Sorcery

Cascade (When you cast this spell, exile cards from the top of your library until you exile a nonland card that costs less. You may cast it without paying its mana cost. Put the exiled cards on the bottom in a random order.)

Return target permanent to its owner's hand.

Delphen7 on How does Ice Cauldron interact …

Ice Cauldron

Ice Cauldron mana can only be used on spells exiled by Ice Cauldron. When casting an adventure card, you can cast either half.

715.3: "As a player casts an adventurer card, the player chooses whether they cast the card normally or as an Adventure."

So if you paid and exiled Bonecrusher Giant, you could later activate Ice Cauldron and use the to cast Bonecrusher OR Stomp.

If you cast Stomp this way, the spell will go to exile. Ice Cauldron did not exile it; the rules of adventure spells did, so Ice Cauldron will no longer interact with it (but you can still cast it as the creature).

Precognition Field

Say you look at the top card of your library and see Bonecrusher Giant. First thing you do as part of casting a spell is put it onto the stack. As part of the casting a spell (a very long process covered here) you will need to declare how you are casting the spell. In this case you are using Precognition Field to cast it off the top of your library

If you put Bonecrusher Giant onto the stack, the game will protest because it's not an instant or sorcery; it's a creature (The game will then backtrack to put everything back how it was)

If you put Stomp onto the stack, the game will see that it's only an instant

715.3b: "While on the stack as an Adventure, the spell has only its alternative characteristics."

Since everything checks out, the game allows you to proceed with paying costs and casting the adventure spell (And then it'll resolve into exile).

Serra Paragon

Same idea here as Precognition Field. When you try to cast Stomp out of the graveyard, Serra will say "That's not a permanent!" and not let you cast it.

Bonecrusher is a permanent and so can be cast. When it goes to exile because it died, you cannot cast it as a creature, because it did not go to exile as a result of its adventure ability.

Cascade

When you cascade into Bonecrusher Giant, you have to choose if you're putting Stomp or Bonecrusher on the stack. The game then checks if the spell you are now casting is less than spell with the cascade trigger.

ie if you Shardless Agent into Bonecrusher, you can only cast Stomp, because only Stomp costs less. If you Deny Reality into Bonecrusher, you can cast either part, as both cost less.

The short answer is that yes, people can respond to it and no, there's no delayed trigger happening. Continue reading for the long answer.

Your confusion seems to be how things happen during the resolution of a spell or ability. While an effect is resolving, you take all of its actions before anything else happens. Once Chaos Wand starts resolving, no one can do anything until the opponent exiles their cards, finds an instant or sorcery, you cast that card, and the exiled cards are returned to the bottom of their library. You can't intervene during any of these steps to use something like Time Stop , and your opponent can't counter the spell yet (though they can if they wait).

A little terminology to be clear here: When a spell or ability goes onto the stack, it's being cast (if it's a spell) or activated (if it's an activated ability). A triggered ability triggers when its condition occurs, but isn't actually put onto the stack until the event that triggered it finishes.

Now, on to how casting spells or triggering abilities as a result of something happening during the resolution of the spell works: When Chaos Wand 's effect finds a suitable spell, you can cast it. As usual, you pay any applicable costs (Chaos Wand ignores mana cost, but maybe it also costs life or a sacrifice ( Fling ?), or maybe it has a kicker cost you'd like to pay). You choose any modes and targets as usual, then put it onto the stack. If it targets something you don't have a valid target for (maybe you got a counterspell) then you can't cast it. Chaos Wand is still resolving, so your opponent puts the exiled cards back on the bottom of their library.

Now that all of the steps in Chaos Wand's ability are complete, it finishes resolving. At this point, priority passes around to the players, and anyone who wants to respond to the spell that was just cast can now do so. Your opponent can now counter the spell you just got from Chaos Wand. If no one responds, you then resolve the spell.

Triggered abilities work similarly. Let's say the spell you got from Chaos Wand was Deny Reality , which has cascade. As Chaos Wand is resolving, the opponent exiles cards and flips Deny Reality. You pick a target and cast it. Its cascade ability triggers when it's cast, but you hold the trigger for a moment because your opponent needs to put the exiled cards on the bottom of their library. Once Chaos Wand's ability finishes resolving, you put the cascade trigger on the stack. At this point, players can respond. If no one does, the cascade resolves and you start flipping cards until you find a spell that costs less than 5.

Hold it, I changed my mind about Karona, False God . I'll try & revise this Yidris CHAOS Deck the way I intended it to be. Rules?

  1. Keep the Land Base as it is.

  2. Keep the Talismans, Rings, & Crypt for decent measure. I'll let you decide the fate of the rest of the Rocks.

  3. Aggravated Assault + Bear Umbra are in as they not only allow extra Combat, but this Bear, unlike the entire Bear Creature Type, untaps all your lands for additional Cascades.

  4. Same for Erebos, God of the Dead ; Havoc Festival might be too risky; but I got to gain life too you know.

  5. Hmmm... It seems this deck has a potential Draw Engine. I benefit from opponents discarding while I Draw, hell, Waste Not is awesome here too; likewise for Bone Miser .

  6. Chance Encounter + Frenetic Efreet WILL be a Wincon here, though I'd like several others; including a combo that for CHAOS terms, It's kinda GG if in my favor, but can cost me SEVERELY; almost to the point of a Loss; A True Battle of CHAOTICA.

  7. What Other Coin Flip Effects and/or Random effects would you put in? What other misc. CHAOS Effects would be good also?

  8. On theme w/ Cascade, what cards in Yidris' Colors might be good here, & has Cascade? ( Throes of Chaos , Kathari Remnant , Bloodbraid Elf , Deny Reality , Etherium-Horn Sorcerer & Maelstrom Wanderer are prime, but I dunno about Demonic Dread , Violent Outburst , Shardless Agent , & Bituminous Blast ... your thoughts would be good though...)

I'm at 100. This means I'll have to replace ALOT of stuff. I hope you're ready. I'll put some stuff back in, but I might need some help yet again; at least for the Wincons I described them as such...

Thank you for helping me out. :)

Deny Reality is a pretty sweet card that I've never seen before.

Newest addition: Deny Reality.

Also, Hive Mind + Curse of Echoes does sounds like a ton of fun. I could make a variant of this is all chaos.

Chill to the Bone, Deny Reality, Flesh to Dust, Heartstabber Mosquito all cost too much for removal. IMO you should only play removal at 1,2 or 3 cmc. Things like Last Gasp or Grasp of Darkness are good in this format also Rend Flesh and Eyeblight's Ending

Really cool list! Building a very similar list myself, but with Maze's End as an alt-wincon since I don't have any shocklands to spare. Here are my suggestions given my limited playtesting:

Bloom Tender, while a little expensive, is absolutely incredible in 5-color EDH. Taps for 3-5 colors of mana at a time in my experience.

Rashmi, Eternities Crafter technically doesn't give your first spell each turn cascade, but is close enough to make it worth it. At worst, you draw an extra card each turn if you're playing stuff at instant-speed.

How often are you able to cascade? Only five cards in your deck actually have or grant the ability. I'd add a few more spells just to let it happen more often. The ones that work best for me that I'd recommend are Bloodbraid Elf, Bituminous Blast, and Deny Reality.

I'd also stock up on more charms, especially the tricolored ones. With cascade, you never know what you're going to hit, so having lots of flexibility is really helpful. The consistently useful ones I'd say are Abzan Charm, Esper Charm, Naya Charm, and Sultai Charm.

If you've got any recommendations for me, my decklist is here: Taste the Rainbow, M'Fer - Ramos Cascade EDH
