Death-Mask Duplicant

Artifact Creature — Shapeshifter

Imprint - (1): Remove target creature card in your graveyard from the game. (The removed card is imprinted on this artifact.)

As long as an imprinted creature card has flying, Death-Mask Duplicant has flying. The same is true for fear, first strike, double strike, haste, landwalk, protection, and trample.

Cairn Wanderer, Death-Mask Duplicant, Eater of Virtue, Soulflayer, and Urborg Scavengers all have a "keyword soup" ability, but they don't all synergize with each other. A lot of them compete for the same resources. Make sure you don't cross yourself up.

I want to build a Mairsil, the Pretender commander deck, and while I was tinkering, I thought of something. there are multiple artifacts that have an activated ability that imprints something to it, and many that have an activated ability using the imprinted card. so if mairsil has a caged card of both categories, can it use the other imprinted cards? examples:

1) if I have Mimic Vat and Death-Mask Duplicant, can I exile a creature for 1 mana to imprint to mairsil, and then create a copy of it with mimic vat?

2) if I have Isochron Scepter and Panoptic Mirror, can I exile something and cast it for 2?

3) if I have Myr Welder and Prototype Portal, can I tap mairsil to exile an artifact from my graveyard and then create a copy of it?

Yesterday on Looking for cards which share/steal …

Hey folks. As usual, I'd appreciate some help because I suck at using card searches.

I'm looking for cards like Cairn Wanderer, Death-Mask Duplicant, Soulflayer. Ones that steal or share keyword abilities from other creature cards.

A different question but on a related note, I'm also not sure how to look up 'keyword soup' creatures which basically have a lot of keywords printed on them, other than looking up each combination of keywords individually and finding which creatures share them and as many others as possible, which would take approximately forever.

I hate basically asking people to look stuff up for me but I'm really not sure which terms I'm meant to use to find such cards.

Thanks in advance.

Short answer: I don't. Not yet at least.

Forced sacrifice and Edict effects ruin this deck, and in most situations so does targeted removal and graveyard hate. This deck is largely just a showcase of what can currently be done with Soulflayer (and likewise Death-Mask Duplicant, Cairn Wanderer, and Odric, Lunarch Marshal) and seeing how far its effect can be pushed. As it stands it makes for a cheeky turn 2 tricky/tough threat and a fast clock, which is great and can steal a game-1 on a decent starting hand, but it certainly crumbles post sideboard or just in the wrong matchup.

This deck is basically in the experimental stage right now, and I'm definitely looking for any and all criticisms for the whole concept (big reason I linked the sister deck). As it stands in the current build, this is what can be done with a hyper aggressive mentality just trying to race for basically one solid creature, which is certainly high variance and by no means a safe bet. The next step for the build is likely to design a shell for it, maybe something similar to jund or grixis mid-range kinda like those that feature Tarmogoyf and Tasigur, the Golden Fang, or maybe a newer kind of shell that works with delirium.

Whatever future evolutions of this deck come about, it's certainly going to require some gutting of the bulk of keyword creatures to substitute in a healthy package of removal, disruption, or control. Alternatively I'll also be on the lookout for any new potential printings of cards that may make the aggressive build more efficient or consistent; maybe some new keyword creatures with just the right combinations, or maybe some hyper-efficient pseudo-tutors.

But as it stands, the deck is fun and can catch a lot of people by surprise (game-1).

Living End is actually in the sideboard as an alternate strategy and could be considered for mainboarding, it works well if you spend some turns filtering creatures into the graveyard and as you're digging for a Soulflayer, catching a Living End can be just as good if not better. It would require something like Kari Zev's Expertise or Yahenni's Expertise, so it's still not super reliable, but on the other hand, the go-wide strategy it would allow would make up for the Edict-weakness that you pointed out.

like I said, I'm still experimenting but there are just so many potential routes to go at this point and so many potential dead ends, so any and all input is definitely appreciated.

Some things that came to mind when I was looking over the deck - I'm not sure what balance you're going for, and a lot of these have the ability to shift balance pretty dramatically, so I don't know how appropriate they all are.
Make more zombies (creature): Ghoulcaller Gisa, Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet, Lim-Dul the Necromancer (I think the latter two would be really powerful)
Make more zombies (noncreature): Necromancer's Covenant (nice end-game potential, and lifegain with aetherflux resevoir out is helpful), Army of the Damned, Curse of Shallow Graves (good political control in multiplayer), Rise from the Grave
Exile other: Hedonist's Trove and Bojuka Bog (gives the eldrazi processors a lot of options)
Processors: Void Maw and Wasteland Strangler (I think processors like these could be super powerful with your commander, maximizing that exile ability)
Admonition Angel - thought it had good synergy with the deck, and if you have a way to get rid of the cards she exiles (gonna make a processor plug again here), then you don't need to worry about them returning when she dies.
Angelic Armaments - lol @ zombie angels
Gavony Unhallowed - Like unruly mob, but a zombie! Should be easy to pump it too.
Mirrorpool - I think getting a copy of some of the spells you have would be pretty awesome. The creature copy can be helpful too.
Mikaeus, the Unhallowed - Make other things more powerful and has the opportunity to provide good control.
Death-Mask Duplicant - could be very powerful if it gets those abilities with Odric out.

Sorry I suggested duplicate cards. However I think theat these might work well Death-Mask Duplicant Keeps abilites of dead creatures. Since you have Concerted Effort walk might be helpful so the list of helpers are Cliff Threader, Farbog Explorer, Graceful Antelope, Hillcomber Giant, Marsh Threader, Righteous Avengers, and my personal Trailblazer's Boots.
