Emzed on Characteristics of an ability's source …

Hi! Say I control Grip of Chaos , Avatar of Woe and Mirran Crusader . I then activate the Avatar targetting itself, triggering Grip of Chaos, and respond to that with Cytoshape to turn Avatar into a Mirran Crusader (Grip could change Cytoshape's target but let's assume it doesn't). Now what happens to the Avatar activation? Is that still considered black because it was originally created by a black source, and can therefore target neither of the pro black Mirran Crusaders?

PlatinumOne on Can Elite Arcanist activate its …

if the exiled card leaves exile, or you turn another creature into a copy with Cytoshape , you basically won't be able to use the ability. i'm not sure if you can pay the cost or not, but even if you can the ability will fizzle.

So if the card exiled with Elite Arcanist leaves the exile zone (maybe some Eldrazi could make that happen) or I turn a creature into a copy of Elite Arcanist via Cytoshape , can I still activate the second ability? I know it won't do anything, but is it possible to tap the Elite Arcanist? (assuming summoning sickness is not a factor)

Gidgetimer on Stangg + Cytoshape

Stangg is legendary and can't be changed with Cytoshape.

If you could find a way to make him something else (no example this time since it is what took so long before since I was looking for something that could change either but not both and came up blank) the ability is still in effect since it is an ability that creates a delayed trigger and the delayed trigger is not an actual ability of Stangg. (DTAs are weird, Once created they no longer care if the objects that they are tracking still has the ability that created the DTA.)

The token is legendary and can not be changed with Cytoshape.

Even if you found a way to make the token something else (Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer for example) Stangg would still be sacrificed if the token he creates leaves the battlefield. The ability tracks the token created and doesn't care what it is named or what other statistics it has.

If I cast Stangg, get its twin token, then use Cytoshape to turn that token into a Saproling and that Saproling dies, what happens to Stangg? Does he get sacrificed or not care at all?

Emzed on Linked abilities: "memory"?

Hi! I have a question about linked abilities, like the triggered and activated abilities on Elite Arcanist. So in my scenario, Elite Arcanist exiles a card to its first ability, then an effect like Cytoshape changes it into something else for a while. When it's back to being an Elite Arcanist, does the activated ability still recognize the card exiled by the triggered ability?

legendofa on Do I actually become dangerous …

I have a token created by Handy Dandy Clone Machine out, and I'm using my own hand as the token. In response to me casting Gimme Five, my hand gets Cytoshaped into a Vile Bile. (These are the sort of combos we come up with for casual play.) Does anyone who high fives me while in an Un-game gain 1 life, then lose 2?
