Cursed Scroll Discussion

djroguelike on Maverick

Conhecer o deck me ajuda bastante.

Well, I do have some ramp in my version that they lack, so I often have 1 more free mana than they would in the same situation, unless I'm facing a deck with artifact destruction. I do agree that she is an ill fit, despite being situationally very strong, and 4 is probably as high as I should be going in mana costs with this much smallpox, especially as I'm not running extra lands.

If I switch her out for Arena, what else would be worth considering tossing for a 2nd Arena? I feel like they are going to help, despite putting me on a clock, since this is a faster pox variant than the more traditional Cursed Scroll variant.

The rest of the cards I have in my burn deck that differ from your list revolved around me emptying my hand to allow ensnaring bridge to protect me. They may or may not meet your criteria (and most probably don't as they just double the initial lightning bolt but some are direct damage) but thought I'd list them anyway:

Cursed Scroll, Isochron Scepter, Firestorm, Fire Servant, Hazoret the Fervent, Masticore, Dual Casting, Harness the Storm, Pyromancer Ascension, Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle, Increasing Vengeance, Searing Blood, Skullcrack, Thunderous Wrath, Harsh Mentor

Spinq1974, I usually don't have problems with people stalling the game with Ensnaring Bridge and the likes of it. Pox already plays it slow and I have Cursed Scroll to deal damage more reliably and Vindicate as an all around removal.

This deck needs no time to build up and it does what it does from turn one to the end of the match. The game usually progresses well until both players are on "topdeck mode": just playing off of what you have just drawn. The thing is that other Legacy decks have better cards, for real, and are more likely to topdeck something useful (library manipulation, cantrips, Brainstorm). Most problems I face come from this.

And some other cards that create problems are Veteran Explorer, Obstinate Baloth and Dryad Arbor + Fetch lands in response.

I'm glad you liked the idea of the deck, thanks o/

Austin_Smith_of_Cards, you are right, those are very solid suggestions.

As for The Rack, however, I just wouldn't replace my other damage sources with it. While Nether Spirit works also as blocker and Cursed Scroll as a removal ability, The Rack would provide only the damage.

And Funeral Charm is an interesting call, I could see it beig useful in some situations. Even though early on it would be bad as a discard spell because of the choice the opponent gets to make, it would still be viable as a removal. Then it would be the other way around later, because, as you said, it might lock the opponent for a turn.

It does seem like a versatile card, but here is what I think: the chance to actually deny a top deck with it is rather low. Liliana of the Veil + land/permanent destruction usually takes care of the lock down more consistently, even if at only sorcery speed.

I'm looking forward to test them further, thanks.

IbHalbherz , not at all. In fact, I have Cursed Scroll on board before I drop Nether Void most of the time. Haha.

Beautiful deck. Seriously. Its like a time machine. It even reminds me of that time of the game's development when land destruction was a common deck archetype. I built this kind of deck back then, but commander didn't exist yet. Got a few ideas too.... If the bank isn't broke yet it would be so epic if you could get a Nether Void in there. Also Scroll Rack could be awesome since you have limited card draw options available. Surely you are looking for a beta Demonic Tutor already, so good luck with that ;) Mind Twist, Hypnotic Specter and Hymn to Tourach all hit lands sometimes too. Shatterstorm kills mana rocks pretty good, and you don't run too many artifacts yourself. Power Matrix is the original equipment, it could make your little LD dorks into little threats. Cursed Scroll for repeatable removal and damage. Jeez what a fun deck, I wish I could see it in real life. Happy gathering!!

ClockworkSwordfish I do get the Grim Lavamancer and thanks for that recomendation, as well as Barbarian Ring, which frankly I've never heard of, I'm going to playtest with those; however, I can't really understand the case for Cursed Scroll since it's a dead turn 1 play, and will only hit for 2 once a turn for 3 mana at best, in a deck that runs Shard Volley and Fireblast, and possibly Barbarian Ring I don't think this is a reliable source of damage, especially since it will only deal the damage some of the time.
