Creature — Dinosaur

Mutate (If you cast this spell for its mutate cost, put it ontop or underneath target non-Human creature you own. They mutate into the creature that is on top and that creature has all the abilities of every card that is underneath it.)

Whenever this creature mutates, you may discard a card. If you do, draw a card.

Cloudpiercer Discussion

Paeldroth on A Vadrok Never Forgets

I'm currently toying with removing some of the mutate creatures (Cubwarden, Dreamtail Heron. Cloudpiercer) in favor of bounce-able creatures like Glitterfang that allow me to recast Vadrok for her mutate ability multiple times. Any feedback there would be helpful.

Tylord2894 on Mutations and thief of sanity ...

The reminder text for Mutate doesn't fully explain the requirements of a mutate spell (as seen on something like Cloudpiercer). The rules for mutate state it much more clearly. “Mutate [cost]” means “You may pay [cost] rather than pay this spell’s mana cost. If you do, it becomes a mutating creature spell and targets a on Human creature with the same owner as this spell.” (702.139a).

Since you don't own the mutating creature spell, it can't target non-Humans that you own. So, it is not a bug and is working as intended. That said, if you gain control of a non-Human your opponent owns (either through Thief of Sanity or another effect), you can mutate onto that card.

Hope this helps!!

Adanto Vanguard is a great suggestion. I could achieve the same thing that I'm getting out of Cloudpiercer (I just want the higher power for Snapdax) with that for 2 less mana. Thanks!

Epicurus on Messy Mardu Mutate Deck

I'm really hopeful for the future of mutate. It's like a really fun mechanic without a whole lot of existing options. Feel free to peruse my Mardu Mutate deck for inspiration, although it goes in a different direction than yours so I don't post it here to imply that yours should look more like mine. Also, mine is Modern, so bear with me: Modern Mardu Mutate Menace Mania

Adanto Vanguard is an incredibly useful creature in my deck, because a) it's only 2 CMC, b) it has built in protection as a starting point for a mutate pile, and c) the power boost when attacking is a great added ability when mutated by Snapdax.

I'm drawing a blank on other suggestions, though I will point out that I personally feel that Cloudpiercer is way too slow for what it does.

+1 from me. Cheers!

Yeah I haven’t had time to whittle away the junk, such as Cloudpiercer and the like. Hopefully I’ll be able to work a bit more on this within the next couple of days. As for taplands, I wanna try to make this budget in the sense of nothing over $30, which requires Just more of My attention. Thanks for the feedback! Any other suggestions?

beets on Apex of Infect (Budget-ish)

i played a few games with this deck and a group of four others. Mortlocke, you were so right! adding in those other mutate cards made some huge crazy beasts and i ended up having a lot of fun with the games! :)

Cubwarden is great for filling the board up with little lifelink buddies, and proved to be a saving grace against Fleshbag Marauder.

Vulpikeet providing flying and +1/+1 counters was a ton of value on its own.

i added Cloudpiercer not only for it's looting ability, but for turning any tiny infect baby into a 5/4 beater.

all these guys proved to be really useful!

another key card turned card combo turned out to be Offspring's Revenge and Sun Titan / Chainer, Nightmare Adept. after my giant mutation got picked off, i was able to rebuild in no-time thanks to the enchantment. turns out sun titan is still amazing even as a 1/1! and the stats don't really matter when mutation overwrites them anyway.

i think adding even more creatures would be beneficial, but i just wanted to tell you that this deck is so much fun and i have you to thank. so, thank you!!!

I think you can lean further into the "Mutate" theme with Lore Drakkis, Cloudpiercer, and/or Dreamtail Heron to draw for more answers and to make Rielle and the Phoenic more effective. Hope this helps.

SirQuixano on List of all infinite combos 2.0

(Spoilers for Ikoria)

Well, with Ikoria and Mutate being a thing, Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker gets even more infinite combos, so I'll try to list all the new ones (19 of them spoiled so far). Essentially, mutate a nonlegendary creature ontop of Kiki-Jiki, have it copy itself, its copy also has Haste and the copy ability, so rinse and repeat for infinite. If you do this before your untap step, the tokens will be untapped then, although it takes a turn from the mutate usually. There are still other cards that can do stuff with untapped tokens or infinite etbs.

For the Nonenglish Spoilers, I'll just use their number. Sorted by Color Identity.

R- Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + Cloudpiercer/Everquill Phoenix

RU - Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + Archipelagore/Dreamtail Heron/Pouncing Shoreshark/Souvenir Snatcher

RG - Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + Auspicious Starrix/IKO #64/Gemrazer/Glowstone Recluse/IKO #165

RW- Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + Huntmaster Liger

RB - Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + Cavern Whisperer/Chittering Harvester/Dirge Bat/Insatiable Hemophage/Mindleecher

RUG Identity, RG and/or RU to pull of combo - Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + Trumpeting Gnarr
