Gattison on Help building a Bloodbriar deck

Hey, you look familiar! =P

I've been obsessed with Brian for a couple months now, lol. The most important thing I learned in all my testing though, was this: don't mix cards that sac themselves (like Mogg Fanatic) with cards that need you to sac something else (like Collateral Damage). Maybe that's obvious to you, but it took me a couple go-rounds before I picked up on that.

If you dig deep enough, you can find synergies in all colors. Red's got stuff like Goblin Arsonist + Reckless Abandon. Or you could find self-sacrificers, like Wild Cantor.

As stated above, black is extra good at sacrificing things, so Golgari is a safe bet.

Mono-green could be strong. In addition to the Eldrazi-token deck of mine you saw, there's also stuff like Seal of Strength, Child of Thorns (which you already mentioned to me) and Llanowar Augur.

Even white and blue can join the party with stuff like Angelic Purge/Lunarch Mantle and Perilous Research respectively.

My friend eyes2sky and I have been discussing this guy a LOT lately, so if you need any more help, don't be afraid to hit either one of us up! And welcome to Team Brian!

Daarken: Good ideas. Child of Thorns I really like and also considered before. I'm pretty sure I can get away with the child instead of Blisterpod.

As for Growth Spasm, I think I like getting the two sac fodder guys instead of just one and a land. I could probably use that in a multicolor Bloodbriar deck though, so thanks for bringing it up.

How about Growth Spasm or Child of Thorns? They both seem to work with the gameplan.

Phantom Tiger should be better than Harbinger of Spring because it survives more removals and battles and if you manage to give it +1/+1 (with an equipment or aura card) you make it to a creature that can only be killed with destory or exil effects.Harbinger of Spring just cost to much to cast (damm that soulshift Tax).

6 CMC Creatures are too hard to play without reanimation so you should forgett about Moss Kami

Dripping-Tongue Zubera is a worse Doomed traveler for Spirit Tribal but still replaces itself.

Child of Thorns can at least jump in and protect another Spirit and make Combat a bit worse for your opponent like a worse Goblin Sledder

Traproot Kami won't work against that many decks because it is just a wall. It belong more in the Sideboard than the main Deck. It dodges a lot of Lightning Bolt and similar stuff (but only in late game) and might block Delver of Secrets  Flip butit's still quite slow.

Your sideboard missing interactions with artifacts and enchantments, Wear Away could work if you want to play on the Splice Ability a bit and Rending Vines could also remove a lot of cards (especially with the low curve of pauper) and it draws a card.

Uproot is quite expensive to take your opponent one turn back regarding lands. You mostly sacrifice your own turn to use it and many blue decks jsut respond with Gush to refill their hand. it might work against Bogle decks that enchant their land (Utopia Sprawl/Abundant Growth to ramp or fix mana (play about 18 lands) but they won't make the mistake of enchanting the same land with all enchantment more than once unless they draw nothing but one land. Still that would be a one trick pony that mostly comes to late into play.

As far as I can tell you rather want to interact during combat and battle tricks, which makes Kodama's Might (because of Splice) quite appealing just like Roar of Jukai which is easy to splice and is able to interact with Shinen of Life's Roar

But I have to say you've choosen a theme which is pretty hard to build in pauper (competetive).

first of all:

modern is a fast format. 5 and 4 mana spells or abilities that are 3 colored, like you have, are not likely to even hit the battlefield because you'll die before it even happens (in most cases). if those 5 & 4 drops are not important to you, i suggest removing them from the deck, and putting creatures like Bile Urchin, Bloodbriar, Bloodflow Connoisseur, Bontu the Glorified, Child of Thorns , Corpse Hauler, Doomed Necromancer, Frostling, Mortician Beetle

spells like Altar's Reap, Bone Splinters, Collateral Damage, Crack the Earth, Eldritch Evolution, Fling, Footsteps of the Goryo, Infernal Plunge, Plunge into Darkness

noncreature permanents like Demonic Appetite, Evolutionary Leap, Quest for the Gravelord

and sideboarding Boggart Forager

i'll keep searching for you tomorrow, hope this helps for now

I do a black/green version of this. 4 part combo though depending how your starting hand goes a turn 4 or 5 win is very common. Child of Thorns, Zulaport Cutthroat, Tree of Perdition, Tragic Slip. Turn 4 put out Tree, Turn 5 play zulaport, child of thorns then sacrifice it onto tree, then tragic slip to make it a -12/1 and tap it. Opponents health is 1 and zulaport triggers the last point of damage.
