Blitz of the Thunder-Raptor

Instant

Blitz of the Thunder-Raptor deals damage to target creature or planeswalker equal to the number of instant and sorcery cards in your graveyard. If that creature or planeswalker would die this turn (is put into the graveyard from the battlefield), exile it instead.

Really cool concept! I have a few ideas.

Blitz of the Thunder-Raptor helps deal with planeswalkers, and might perform better than Chaos Warp. Run Brittle Blast over Thunderous Wrath.

Not sure about Dismiss into Dream. How many single-target spells or effects are you running? I count 6.

Mana Drain over Dissipate: Having resources for damage later is almost always going to serve you more. Plus, it's a great target for Isochron Scepter.

Speaking of walkers, definitely replace Cloud Key with Rowan, Scholar of Sparks  Flip. It's straight up better. Strongly consider Ral, Storm Conduit, if only that it ramps up damage with your commander out. Consider Koth, Fire of Resistance as a decent land-fixer (which means you'll draw less lands and have more mana), and Jaya Ballard for simple acceleration.

If your pool is competitive, you could run Back to Basics or at least Blood Moon. This will slow down many decks and give you more time. Adding fetches in your colors (should be 5) means that you can take out 2 islands and 3 mountains and still hit your curve.

Not sure about Breaking Point and Curse of the Swine. Instead, consider Puppet's Verdict and either Winter's Chill or Cyclonic Rift.

Reins of Power and Insurrection could replace Chain Reaction and Incite Rebellion, allowing you to use those resources against opponents and kill them, which would have the added benefit of removing their creatures.

I know you don't want to run any creatures, but Stuffy Doll is a decent deterrent and is too funny not to leave out.

I cut the All Is Dust for Draconic Intervention and cut Mana Geyser for Primal Amulet  Flip. Still trying to fit in Crackle with Power .

I think if I ran Blitz of the Thunder-Raptor it would replace Abrade . I like Mizzium Mortars for spot removal/board wipe purposes.

plakjekaas i'm not gonna count bounce spells, because it can just be recast. the spells that take away abilities or tap down a creature are typically permanents that can be removed, and the opponent just gets their creature again. blue is not doing better than red, especially when you're still leaving the opponent a creature. red is definitely better removal when the majority of it also has the option of targeting players and planeswalkers, and thats why it cost more mana.

Aftershock, Fall of the Hammer, Blitz of the Thunder-Raptor, Dogpile, Firecannon Blast, Firestorm.

abby315 For 1) and 2), I feel if I am running more threats, I won’t need to rely on Unsummon as a backup plan. I am considering Brazen Borrower and Magmatic Channeler for more threats, and have stuff against removal in the sideboard. Also, I don’t like mainboarding stuff to combat decks when I have a sideboard.

For 3) it’s the same thing about sideboarding as with 2). Also, with a little bit of 5), I can dig with Anticipate to find any copies that I need. I didn’t know Lurrus of the Dream-Den and Kroxa, Titan of Death's Hunger was the deck to beat.

For 4) I am an aggressive mulliganer, so I don’t like it when I see a late game card in my hand.

For 5), I like Crash Through because at worst it’s a cantrip, and at most it’s the difference between me winning or losing the game. I like Anticipate because I have a lot of copies of it, and I don’t have to reveal anything. I don’t like running much removal, so it’s a no for Blitz of the Thunder-Raptor, and I don’t like Silundi Vision  Flip because I have to choose and reveal an Instant or Sorcery, which means I’m light on threats.

You really got me thinking, and I might take some of your options.

I'm running a similar deck on MTGA and I have a few suggestions:

1) I fully agree with above that you should either add 1-2 Brazen Borrower or 1-2 Heartfire Immolator as additional threats. I actually run 2 of both, for a total of 16 threats. I don't know if you've been running hands, but you'll find that you really need a threat in the opener, and at 12 threats you'll have to mulligan often to find one, which hurts your spell density. However, I waffle on Immolator since it doesn't fly.

2) Stern Dismissal should be Unsummon. Again, you're threat-light and this is not a true burn deck, so the option to save your creature and blank removal is more important than bouncing enchantments. I can't think of a deck that really utilizes any Banishing Light type effects and, in that scenario, Unsummoning your own creature can work just as well.

3) You should probably have 4 Spikefield Hazard  Flip. It's a great spell against Kroxa and Lurrus decks, which are probably the most popular decks in the meta ATM. It's also very good against Rogues. Being a MDFC really lowers your opportunity cost, especially since the deck doesn't really need turn 1 open mana.

4) I see no reason not to run 4 Shatterskull Smashing  Flip. I won't lie that it's an underwhelming removal spell, but being any spell to trigger Riddleform is super important. You have to be the faster deck anyway, and I often can play it tapped since the deck is low on curve.

I also prefer a build with 2x Silundi Vision  Flip and 3x Blitz of the Thunder-Raptor over Anticipate and some Crash Through. I really think Anticipate is too slow here. But that's probably up for debate!
