Blessed Light Discussion

(Sry I accidentally hit post on the last comment). I'm not done.

You have no threat of reuse. Most control deck at the very least have Snapcaster Mage or the new Mission Briefing . The power to recast any spell in your graveyard is sooo powerful im not even going to explain. It would take too long. Long story short, you need some. I'm thinking you could drop Vapor Snag for a playset of Snapcaster Mage / Mission Briefing .

You need to rethink your threats and creature count. Guile is fine, but have only one copy doesn't really work. Creating a blockade has always been secondary to control deck. I think you should drop AEtherling and both Detention Sphere for 3 copies of Torrential Gearhulk . Gearhulk gives you better control, a free spell and is just better in general.

Your removal is also EXTREMELY expensive. Particularly, Blessed Light . Path to Exile is probably the best modern-legal removal in the game. My thought are get rid of Blessed Light and Bring to Trial for a playset of it.

Again, creatures don't matter. Which makes Valor Made Real COMPLETELY useless. I'm thinking get rid of that and have 3x copies of Guile .

Suggestions in total: Snapcaster Mage

Torrential Gearhulk

Serum Visions

Mana Leak

Path to Exile

Mission Briefing

Well, this may stretch your budget, but Angel of Invention is one of the best white creatures in standard. Unfortunately, it's rotating out of standard very soon, but right now it can definitely hold its own. Also, Knight of Grace is actually quite good in monowhite, and it fits your budget. I see you have quite a bit of lifegain. Ajani's Pridemate is a good staple in lifegain, as unchecked it will win you the game. However, these suggestions are more aggressive; for a more midrange type deck, I'd consider adding more removal including several of FireToTheFace's suggestions, but also using Cast Out and Blessed Light. Firesong, are you attempting to create a more aggressive or a more controlling deck? Thanks.

Just a warning if you planed to take to an FNM, your deck is not "standard" legal. If you are wondering what is not standard legal in your deck you can see them listed to the "illegal" cards posted to the right of the window bellow the deck price and mana curve charts.

As for things to help your deck, You are running high on your mana cost for spells like Blessed Light and Fiery Intervention. You may want to change these out for Seal Away for earlier removal option, or Ixalan's Binding so you can remove any non-land permanent threat from the board (this includes planeswalkers).

Other spell options you might want to consider are Lightning Strike and Abrade for early removal spells.

I am not sure if you are trying to be a a r/w control deck or if you are trying to win by creatures. Rest of my suggestions would rely on knowing this. Since you said you did not want to sacrifice the sorcery and instant spells. If you want to be spell focused I would probably suggest a large change on the creature options.

Hope my suggestions are along the lines of what you are looking for.

Your lands could be improved by using the untapped dual lands (Rootbound Crag, Clifftop Retreat, Sunpetal Grove) and replacing the taplands you're currently using. Some dinosaur all-stars are Ranging Raptors (also fixes your mana!) and Ripjaw Raptor. Forerunner of the Empire also deserves a mention here as both an enrage enabler and a tutor. Otepec Huntmaster is also surprisingly good, as it both ramps your dinosaurs and can lead to a nasty surprise when you do cast them. Finally, I'm surprised to not see any Regisaur Alpha. That card is really good in any dino deck.

Blessed Light is not a great card, so I'd start with removing that. In the same vein, Temple Altisaur, Sun-Collared Raptor, Raptor Companion, and Knight of the Stampede are rather lackluster cards. If you need a sideboard as well, please let me know, I'd be happy to add something for that as well. I hope this helps!

I would get a Sunpetal Grove, Temple Garden, Razorverge Thicket, Temple of Plenty and some other lands. If you are willing to spend the money for it, then Savannah is a good card to use in this deck

Creatures I would recommend for this deck would include Sigarda, Host of Herons, Linvala, Keeper of Silence, Herald of War and a couple of value angels like Baneslayer Angel or Archangel of Tithes. Angel of Jubilation shuts down a lot of decks that are black or sacrifice intensive.

Instants and sorceries I would include if you want to consistently get Avacyn out include Worldly Tutor, Eladamri's Call, possibly Traverse the Ulvenwald, Green Sun's Zenith and any other similar creature tutors.

Removal in white is really good so things such as Swords to Plowshares and Path to Exile are staples in white for commander, if you plan to run Avacyn then some more board wipes would be a good idea (i.e. Hour of Revelation, Austere Command). Decree of Justice while ok is a bit costly in terms of mana. A strictly better card would be Entreat the Angels for the cost of 6 mana into decree you only get 1 angel, for the cost of 5 you get one angel with entreat, and for 6 with miracle you get 4 angels with entreat.

cards to take out include Blessed Light (simply better removal out there), Mirror Gallery (the lack of copy creature spells make this one obsolete in this deck), Untamed Kavu (not enough versatility or utility), Evra, Halcyon Witness (doesn't quite fit into this deck unless there is a combo I am unaware of), Divine Reckoning (better board wipes out there), Marwyn, the Nurturer (not enough elves to fully utilise the ability), Daring Archaeologist (you most likely won't be able to cast enough historic spells to make this guy big enough), Steel Leaf Champion (good beatstick, only problem is the extremely intensive green cost) and at least one land (preferably a land that just enters tapped and does nothing else).

some recommended staples for angel theme would be Grand Abolisher that way people cannot immediately counter or remove your spells, Urza's Incubator, Angels usually have very high mana costs so them costing 2 less is very beneficial. If you are unable to shut down the board entirely with Avacyn and Shalai, there is another solution but I warn you, people who run mono colour will hate it: Iona, Shield of Emeria. A card so obnoxious even I wonder why it hasn't been banned in EDH yet. it is basically night night for mono colour decks and if you can find a way to copy it (Cough Cough Helm of the Host Cough Cough) then your opponents had better pray they have colourless removal or run a colourless deck.

Mana rocks are a necessity in angel tribal as well. include the likes of Thran Dynamo, Basalt Monolith, Worn Powerstone, Caged Sun, also get a Selesnya Signet to get some coloured mana ramp.

Also needs some card draw too, cards such as Howling Mine or Font of Mythos can help, if you're feeling nice. However if you want to be terrifyingly evil, then use something like Mind's Eye. some card draw spells I would recommend are Harmonize, Greater Good, Rishkar's Expertise and Abundance.

Overall this does seem like it could be potentially the meanest deck at any EDH table, any game featuring angels and/or Avacyn are bound to be very slow and oppressive, the one thing angels are famous for is being oppressive as hell (for reference look at Iona or Linvala). A good number of creatures for angel tribal is 26-29 creatures with about 3 of them being supporting creatures (case example being grand abolisher or eternal witness, maybe an Aven Mindcensor to be even more oppressive) of course the mana dorks can also help as well, in this deck I would say a good number is about 32 creatures with a maximum of 7 supporting units. I am curious as to how oppressive this deck can potentially get in a game. Good Luck finishing this. I can guarantee angel tribal is a very fun thing to do.

@Feyamius I actually just swapped Trostani's Judgment for Blessed Light, I'm hoping the cheaper cost and ability to hit enchantments will make it more useful in the deck. Wake the Reflections has always been a do nothing card for me, it's only useful with a good token on board, and I'd rather just play a creature that makes a good token instead.

Definitely adding Grow from the Ashes, idk about the others though, I already feel I may have too much ramp. I might add Commander's Sphere though if I can find one, the draw seems nice.

I'd run Trostani's Judgment over Blessed Light, and of course Wake the Reflections, cutting some of the 1/1 token creators. You want your tokens to be big.

Grow from the Ashes is a great new ramp spell. Far Wanderings and Journey of Discovery are very good as well. Selesnya Cluestone, Commander's Sphere and Darksteel Ingot could ramp you even more so you can activate your commander's populate ability multiple times per turn. Like suggested, you could take out some 1/1 token creator spells for the increase of ramp.
