Beck Discussion

Force_of_Willb on Budget-ish Modern Elves

have elf decks stopped using Copperhorn Scout to untap their creatures?

With Ezuri being legendary maybe leave him as a 1 of and tutor for with with chord when needed to overrun. Joraga Warcaller would be a fine replacement lord.

How do you prevent running out of gas with limited draw? in the eternal formats they use Glimpse of Nature with Nettle Sentinel + heritage druid to combo out. Modern gives us Beck or Soul of the Harvest (if you can generate to 6 which shouldn't be too hard with Elves)

I thought I was the only one playing Summoner's Pact! I don't play it with Beck or Regal Force, but it's very good. My list for reference: Cloudy with a Chance of Elfball

How has this deck done with only one Beck? I would've thought you'd want at least 3.

Elves are so great ;)

The Locust God + Beck doesn't need anything else to stop it, since you can always decline to draw a card with Beck.

WiltLeafElves on Mono-Green Elf Combo Deck

Actually, Elves work really well in Green White and not only Black. White has way better sideboards, and other options. Black is generally only for Shaman of the pack, and thoughtseize. Beck is splashed for as a substitute of Glimpse of Nature, which got banned early on in modern. The combo deck uses Nettle Sentinel and Heritage Druid, as well as sometimes using Regal Force, Elvish Visionary, Cloudstone Curio, etc. It can make infinite mana by continuously using 3 Nettles to cast 2 Visionaries that are bouncing each other off Curio. Also, the new rules only care when an effect wants to know the converted cmc of a card. To cast beck, you still only need UG, not the additional cost of call (although it's something you can do if you have the mana).

Have you considered Beck of the Beck/Call? I know it's used in elves pretty frequently.

Just a note: if you sideboard in Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, then not only will you have to pay 1 extra for Sram's Expertise but also for Beck.

Wizard_of_the_Broke on Esper Gifts: Which build is ...

Hey man, I just happened to take another look at that Primer I posted earlier in this thread. One minor quirk of that Esper Brain deck that I had not noticed previously was the interaction between Yahenni's Expertise and Beck/Call. You can cast both sides of the card fused for no mana using Yahenni, and the -3/-3 resolves before you can do anything with the other card, so your tokens hit the board just fine. In other words, YE acts as both a pretty strong board wipe and a way to cheat out B/C. Pretty nice touch.

I still like the idea of adding in maindeck discard to protect the combo, such as inquisition, Thoughtseize, Duress, or Despise. It acts as a turn 1 play as well, and if you throw in Brain in a Jar, you'll have a one mana sorcery to cast with it (with the ability to do it during their upkeep, mind you).

I see your reasoning for Manamorphose, but I think your lands should get you there just fine. I guess it is a pseudo-ramp with scions though. Ultimately your call. Plus, it is ramp with Brain in a Jar ( although you'd want to cast Beck with brain over manamorphose).
