Bar the Door Discussion

@Cepitore - Thanks for noticing, I have been adding creatures which has a lot of value but doesn't contribute with the deck/commander. I have revised the deck now as best as I can.

@Dis4Dinosaur - Tower Defense should suffice. I don't have other cards to replace with Bar the Door in the meantime. Thanks for the suggestion though.

@SyrJet - I won't put any walls in this deck, it's been hard for me to remove the defender status of walls when it's time to all out attack, unlike high toughness creatures. Thanks for the suggestion though.

@Bezter - My problem with Builder's Blessing is that when my creatures doesn't have vigilance and attacks, the effect wouldn't be fully used. I have already bought Tree of Perdition and Karn, Silver Golem is an interesting choice, but I already have a lot of CMC. Thanks for the suggestion.

@i24 - it was just because i had that planeswalker, and i might as well use it. But now i have removed it, since as much as it has a lot of value, it wouldn't fit really into the deck.

@Chaseace3 - Thanks! I found some ideas in your deck, like Behind the Scenes and Trostani, Selesnya's Voice .. Although, I ultimately didn't include trostani, since I have a bit of lifelink, and that would overkill. Also it has specific mana color to cast.

@Bluerunt - It's the same with Trostani, Selesnya's Voice , but a lot more to cast and would increase my mana curve.

If you're on the look out for more control-y includes cards from the Fiend Hunter family (o-rings on sticks,) are almost always big butts in the 1/3 range, Gaddock Teeg , is a nice include but you'd need to switch up your sig to include him: so far I've found that dealing twenty consistently with this type of deck is relatively easy and Triumph of the Hordes is a bit of overkill that's likely get you hated out so switching to something else for the Teeg include (which shuts off almost every other deck at the table, since planeswalkers are more often than not cmc 4+) might be worth considering its.

In my experience, the deck is weak to board wipes and removal, which is why my signature spell is Heroic Intervention : the beauty of Teferi's Protection but at a discount.

Champion of Lambholt is nice evasion since you strategy is to puke creatures on the board. Semi-asymetric boardwipes like Dusk//Dawn and Wave of Reckoning are also really good, but remember that if you play Teeg, they nonbo; Magus of the Disk is a 2/4 board wipe on theme that Teeg doesn't turn off though.

Hunter's Insight and Mentor of the Meek are really strong card draw for the deck, and because your curve is so low to the ground, you can probably most often afford to tax one for the cantrip.

Bar the Door and Tower Defense are the strongest pump spells this type of deck can run that I'm aware of. Village Bell-Ringer is also an on theme combat trick for the deck.

Assault Formation is a nice alternative to your oathbreaker in case she gets removed or worse Imprisoned in the Moon .

Stirring Wildwood is a land. Growing Rites of Itlimoc  Flip is a billion green mana once it flips.

Indomitable Ancients is a four drop 2/10, and Skinshifter is a 1/1 for 1G with G: become an 0/8 uet.

Rhox Faithmender is the reason my record life total with the deck is 120 (three activations of Huatli for 11 doubled is 88 life plus starting life total and a net twelve life from somewhere).

Mirage Mirror is a second copy of anything in your or your opponents decks.

and lastly, Joven's Ferrets is a meme.

You should check out my deck Testudo Tactic Holy Cadre. I think you're missing more High Alert in your deck, I would recommend more of those without solely relying upon Arcades, the Strategist . I also recommend Dive Down and Aegis of the Heavens instead of Shield Wall and Steadfastness and Bar the Door .

Would you be willing to replace Bar the Door with Hold the Line? That card is typically superior in most situations, for only a slightly stricter casting cost.

Creature pump/value: Cloudstone Curio and Panharmonicon are both broken with Arcades. Serra's Blessing --> Brave the Sands: strictly better! Spidersilk Armor is great against heavy flying decks (and will rarely be a removal target because it is so unassuming)

Protection: Lightning Greaves/Swiftfoot Boots; Heroic Intervention; Teferi's Protection (don't let the price scare you; it came in your Edgar Markov deck); mainboard Ghostway

Ramp: Azorius Signet, Simic Signet and Selesnya Signet should all be run; they allow for a turn 3 Arcades. Thought Vessel (came in Meren) lets you keep your excessive draws and Mind Stone replaces itself if no longer needed. They also fit the bill of a 2 drop ramp. Sylvan Caryatid!

Target/mass removal: Dusk, Solar Tide, and Slaughter the Strong, will all be one sided wipes for you! Cyclonic Rift is worth the price tag; it will go in every blue deck. Consider mainboarding Path to Exile and Swords to Plowshares. Return to Dust is another strong card.

Land: Prairie Stream, Irrigated Farmland, Scattered Groves, Reliquary Tower, the temples (Temple of Mystery), bounce lands (Simic Growth Chamber), and pain lands (Adarkar Wastes) are all worth considering. Real solid base though!

Cards to replace: Steadfastness has no degree of surprise being a sorcery and isn't a large pump. Bar the Door and Shield Wall are both a little meh on their power level.

The counterspell suite is great in one on one games but in multiplayer, it is rarely a good trade. I would cut down to two or three. For efficiency Swan Song is a powerhouse; your Disallow exemplifies the flat out "no"; Insidious Will is wildly versatile and can win you the game.

Alexi's Cloak, Alpha Authority, Canopy Cover, Diplomatic Immunity, and Shielding Plax could be swapped out for repeatable protection (the equipments above) or effects that not only protect your whole board but also abuse ETB abilities (I cast Damnation, you cast Ghostway. I cry because you have your whole board and drew 5 cards).

Some other cuts that could be made for new stuff would include any of the walls that are just big dumb beaters like Glacial Wall.

I built an Arcades deck myself recently and I absolutely love it. A few cards I can recommend that have been amazing for me that I don't see in your list are: Wall of Shards, Hover Barrier, Bar the Door and Slaughter the Strong. There's a few cards here I never thought of that I'm totally adding to mine so thanks for the ideas! Hope that helps, good luck!

So, I've only been playing with my Arcades deck a little, so this advice is based on my experience which is limited. Arcades only lets creatures with defender deal damage based on their toughness, so all the big butts you have are not going to turn into massive damage. if you load your deck with low cost defender creatures with big toughness (e.g. Steel Wall), you will have more cards in your hand than you need, Arcades is that good at putting cards in your hand (all that is to say, I don't think you need a card draw sub-theme).
Vigilance is awesome in a deck like this so Brave the Sands and Always Watching are better than they seem.
Meishin, the Mind Cage is hilarious. I've only had it out once, but giving your opponents creatures -7/-0 while you swing in with a Wall of Frost just feels good.
Some other cards I would consider are: Wave of Reckoning, Triton Tactics, Sacred Rites, Mizzium Skin, Bar the Door, and Wall of Faith.
Good Luck!! this deck is super fun to play with!!!

mikeb388For the same reason I cut Rolling Stones off the list. It isn't good enough on its own, because most defenders have 0 power and you have to have Assault Formation on the battlefield. But Assault Formation also gives your defenders the ability to attack, so most of the time it's a dead card, sadly.

Thank you very much for your suggestions InfinityMinusOne. Your cards gave me a lot of good ideas where to go with/evolve the deck. We could even develop this further by adding Panharmonicon and Laboratory Maniac as an alternative wincon. Be assured I will certainly try this. Furthermore I will add Wall of Roots as a substitute for Murmuring Phantasm when I get my hands on one. I really like the idea with Sacred Rites, it could also also be used together with Bar the Door etc. for that final blow. Would also be excellent with the suggestions above. I think I'm the only one I know playing Mental Misstep in my Azami deck. Never seen it anywhere else
