Ballyrush Banneret Discussion

CardTyrant on Soldier Tokens

Looks pretty tasty, and it's a great start!

I would take out Quest for the Holy Relic, Open the Armory, and Strength of Arm due to not really having that much equipment. I would add 3 more Plains (I would also try to balance your mana better, try less Mountains and more Plains). If that mana fixing becomes an issue, add in Evolving Wilds, Myriad Landscape, Warped Landscape, Terminal Moraine, Arid Mesa, Naya Panorama, or Terramorphic Expanse. I would recommend adding at least 3-5 fetch lands to help mana fixing.

If you take out Armory of Iroas, Murder Investigation, and Coat of Arms, you could free up the last two spots for the 38 lands.

I did notice that a lot of your soldiers have a synergy with equipment cards, yet you only run 2 equipment cards. I was a bit confused by this. I would recommend taking them all out and replacing them. I would also recommend trying to run 2 more soldiers (you are at that tribal sweet spot with all the soldier creatures, but Boros is known for being aggressive with instant/sorcery AND creatures). 30 creatures is great aggro. Here are some creatures I would recommend: Brimaz, King of Oreskos, Blaze Commando, Sunhome Guildmage, Preeminent Captain, Field Marshal, Daru Warchief, Ballyrush Banneret, Veteran Swordsmith, Rhox Pikemaster, or Catapult Squad. The cards I'd recommend to take out are Auriok Steelshaper, Auriok Survivors, Auriok Windwalker, Conclave Phalanx, Kalemne, Disciple of Iroas, Relic Seeker, Fated Conflagration, Arrows of Justice.

You already have a lot of key cards. I do see that your mana is very unbalanced. I would add more Plains. If you just take out one Mountain at a time and switch it for a Plains until your Pie Chart for your mana is "perfectly" aligned. It won't always be there, but the closer the better. With this being a tribal deck, it would help to have cards like Cavern of Souls, but that's a make-or-break card for you wallet. I actually don't even have one (it's one of the last 9 cards I WANT for my Gishath deck). Soldiers won't really get a lot of heat at any of my play groups, so getting countered shouldn't be that big of an issue.

Here is what I would take out and add:

- Quest for the Holy Relic
- Open the Armory
- Strength of Arm
- Armory of Iroas
- Coat of Arms
- Murder Investigation
- Auriok Steelshaper
- Auriok Survivors
- Auriok Windwalker
- Conclave Phalanx
- Kalemne, Disciple of Iroas
- Relic Seeker
- Fated Conflagration
- Arrows of Justice

+ Evolving Wilds
+ Terramorphic Expanse
+ Naya Panorama
+ 3x Plains
+ Sunhome Guildmage
+ Brimaz, King of Oreskos
+ Daru Warchief
+ Rhox Pikemaster
+ Ballyrush Banneret
+ Field Marshal
+ Veteran Swordsmith
+ Preeminent Captain

Rebalance Mountains and Plains to match the Pie Chart

Sorry for the ranty post. I get a bit into it.

Dislavano-Dislavo on Im a gosh darn little teapot

I have a few recommendations for this deck. Firstly, Cenn's Heir, Kinsbaile Borderguard, and Ballyrush Banneret seem like auto includes for Kithkin tribal. Cenn's Enlistment is a little mana intensive, but it gives you bodies of a relevant type, and can be recurred in the late game and turn dead land draws into bodies. Surge of Thoughtweft could be played strictly for flavor if that's something you're interested in.

Additionally, I feel like you don't need as many filler Kithkin like Amrou Kithkin and Kinscaer Harpoonist and could use more tribal staples like Kindred Discovery and Herald’s Horn , as well as a better control package of cards like Beast Within and Pongify.

This looks like a good start and I'm really interested to see where you take it, as I can see it heading towards either an Agro or Control strategy.

Looks pretty fun.

I would personally have 4 of Wizened Cenn. Maybe Rustic Clachan, Ballyrush Banneret, Cenn's Heir and Preeminent Captain.

The deck is very interesting, but note that it is not Standard Legal.

Also all the creatures are very small and have limited abilities. consider removing Veteran Armorsmith and Veteran Swordsmith for bigger and probably more mana costly, so you can play then using the synergy from Ballyrush Banneret and Preeminent Captain.

Have fun!

Xica on Is Soul Sisters coming back?

Some new cards really create a potential for the deck - but i never thought those would be the cats.

I think 3x Oketra's Monument (added to the 4x Ballyrush Banneret) create really good potions for the deck.
In such a case it can just barf out a million Legion Conquistador / Squadron Hawk on the field.
And draw a lot of cards from Mentor of the Meek since you can easily pay , if your creatures only cost

SynergyBuild on Ultra-Budget: Teenage Mutant Ninja Wizards

So far none of these Ultra Budgets have been very competitive in modern, considering the speed of the meta I can't imagine them working to well. I want to build a more competitive one. I do really like the idea, and some (Like the elemental fling one) were still very good. The issue was that they were around 40+ dollars, rather than 20-10 dollar price range.

I tried to make one using the Heroic keyword, building it around cantrips that target creatures (like Bandage and Defiant Strike) along with good heroic abilities like Phalanx Leader and Favored Hoplite, filling the mana curve out with Lagonna-Band Trailblazer, Fabled Hero, and Vanguard of Brimaz, and it works suprisingly well, winning turn 4-5 on average, but I did have a game with a turn 3 kill, just because of the synergy that can be acomplished with the strive mecahanic of Launch the Fleet, targetting my two Phalanx Leaders, two Vanguard of Brimaz, and a Fabled Hero to get a board of giant (3/3 & 4/4) cats, and a giant Fabled Hero (5/5 Double Strike) for a big win.

Another Idea for a super budget is a combo deck, one that uses 2x Zombie Infestation & 4x Treasure Hunt, 4x Reliquary Tower and finishing the deck with 25x Swamp and 25x Island, I will let you imagine hoe the deck wins!

Another powerful budget deck is Kithkin! They have one of the cheapest good lords with Wizened Cenn and have Ballyrush Banneret, Rustic Clachan, Goldmeadow Stalwart, and a bunch of other great tribal elements at a cheap price. That kind of deck is also able to be easily upgraded for a still small price, with cards like Knight of Meadowgrain, Honor of the Pure, Militia's Pride, and Thoughtweft Trio for not extreme prices.

An easy deck to build is mono-white "2 for 1", its a deck I built a while back around just dropping cards like Expedition Envoy, Dragon Hunter, Dryad Militant, Mardu Woe-Reaper, Savannah Lions, Elite Vanguard, etc. backing them up by using Brave the Elements, and Honor of the Pure if you want. For a cheap version, you don't need to, and even for one that runs Isamaru, Hound of Konda and Kytheon, Hero of Akros, the deck cost less than 30 dollars.

The point of the comment is that I feel that though these decks are interesting and fun to play with, if competitive decks for a low cost are required, I think more competitive decks for a cheaper (or equal) cost are possible.

In the case of this deck (similar to neg counters), it requires the opponent to be playing creatures, and also be playing slowly enough, or with out removal, for you to steal them. This deck also doesn't have any way of dealing with the graveyard, has no sideboard, can't remove creatures, enchantments, lands, or artifacts opponents control, and though the deck is slow, it doesn't have the control elements like counter spells to support it, even though it is in the colors... It also can't speed the deck up with ramp or draw even though it is in the colors! Blue/green card draw could also help with Lorescale Coatl and ramp could make Nimbus Swimmer a seriously viable option.

If you do want ramp/draw, Explore is a super cheap option. More cantrip buffs could also help with the deck consistency, and I could go on and on, but it just seems like you didn't look at the deck for play-ability, but instead based on random cards you thought would be cool. I can't help look through every card to try and make this a viable option, because in the end I don't think it is an option, against pretty much any meta modern deck, where as my Heroic deck beats Naya Burn more often than not, and can stand to fight Affinity and Death's Shadow too. It doesn't stand a chance against Tron or make other decks, but this one can't stand against pretty much any.

Rhadamanthus on If I have Permanent A ...

Your scenario can't happen exactly in the way it's described. Playing a land is a special action that doesn't cause you to pass priority to your opponent.

After you play your land on T3 you still have priority to take the next action. You can choose to cast Thoughtweft Trio for , and if your opponent responds with Doom Blade on Ballyrush Banneret the game won't back up and "un-apply" the Banneret's effect or otherwise undo your casting of the spell. (you might have a problem when it's time to champion a kithkin, though...)

If you do something else after playing your land instead (moving to Combat, for example) and your opponent responds with Doom Blade on the Banneret then you're not allowed to respond by casting Thoughtweft Trio because it doesn't have Flash.

badhacker on If I have Permanent A ...

Let's use the following example.

My T2: I have one land from T1 already

i. I play a land

ii. I play Ballyrush Banneret

My T3: I have two lands from T1 and T2

i. I play a land.

ii. Opponent plays Doom Blade

iii. I respond by playing Thoughtweft Trio

Thoughtweft Trio costs 4 CMC, but Ballyrush Banneret reduces the cost by 1 CMC. So on my turn 3, if my opponent decided to play a card to destroy my Ballyrush Banneret, does it's static ability (which does not go on the stack) still be valid for me to cast Thoughtweft Trio for 3 CMC?

Could you please post the Gather rule that is applicable to this scenario?
