Auntie's Hovel Discussion

ClockworkSwordfish on "Tribal" Tribal

I designed a similar Reaper King EDH deck years ago, and while it's not especially good, it's certainly my favourite!

I'd say your biggest concern is that that mana base needs work. Having nearly all of your lands come into play tapped is sure to get you overwhelmed. You'd do well to run City of Brass and Mana Confluence - since you start with 40 life to work with, they're essentially Command Tower #2 and 3. Since you're running all of the changelings, you'll probably also appreciate the tribal taplands from Lorwyn. I see you already have Primal Beyond, but Ancient Amphitheater, Auntie's Hovel, Gilt-Leaf Palace, Murmuring Bosk, Secluded Glen and Wanderwine Hub will more often than not come into play untapped and can make coloured mana for any of your spells.

How's your manabase working out for you? I'd strongly recommend City of Brass and Mana Confluence - since you're starting with 40 life, they're basically Command Towers #2 and 3. Path of Ancestry is also flat-out better than any of the taplands, even if you never get its scry ability.

In addition, if you're running one of each changeling, you should try and use the tribal lands from Lorwyn, since they often perform as dual lands without a drawback! That would include Secluded Glen, Wanderwine Hub, Ancient Amphitheater, Gilt-Leaf Palace, Auntie's Hovel and Murmuring Bosk.

Goblin Matron, Goblin Sledder, Reckless One and skirk fire marshall aren't modern legal, Blood Moon + Goblin King is a VERY good interaction, but not quite budget. you really need Lightning Bolt instead of Lightning Strike,Quest for the Goblin Lord is good too. for midrange budget i would go for b/r goblins because they have Frogtosser Banneret and Mad Auntie also play Goblin Grenade, you coeld play Boggart Mob and Goblin Bushwhacker for mana base, use Auntie's Hovel

You should add Krenko, Mob Boss to this deck. Just kidding. One suggestion: Auntie's Hovel. You can use it for just the red mana, and I think it is probably better than your Flamekin Village in a goblin deck.

Hello dear T/O community!

So I've been considering playing a tribal deck for a while now. Especially Goblins because... well... Goblin Grenade. I've brewed some lists that are influenced from several builds (from Vial Goblins to 8-Whack) since I don't like to copy-paste lists found online (aka Netdecking).

I have 2 main questions for you Golbins lovers out there :

A. What is the best color to splash?

B. Foundry Street Denizen

I've seen many lists running a full playset of him. I'd like to know how good he truly is? He seems amazing T1/2 (especially with a T2 Mogg War Marshal) but also the most terrible topdeck mid/late game. I'd be inclined to only play one copy so that if I have him in my starting hand I can T1 him, otherwise I feel like I don't really want to see him. Is it a stupid way to think?

Honestly, dudes like Mogg Fanatic, Frenzied Goblin, the new Fanatical Firebrand or even Goblin Cohort all seem better to me.

If you know any long-time Goblins player who could help too, please tag them! :)

Many thanks to you all!

Mutant changeling goblin. Having fun with combat tricks. I have a playset of Auntie's Hovel and I plan on brewing a splash black sideboard for protection from red. Not there yet, but I think Warren Weirding and Weirding Shaman may help.

Auntie's Hovel is just a gate without any goblin cards, try more fetches to help lower life further?

The Eternal Masters artwork of Wasteland is clearly referencing the Modern Masters artwork of City of Brass.

Frost Breath shows Frost Titan.

It is very possible that Fire-Lit Thicket may be the same land as Auntie's Hovel, altered by the transition from Lorwyn to Shadowmoor (ironically, the hovel looks to be red/green while the thicket looks to be red/block or green/black). Similarly, Wooded Bastion may possibly be Gilt-Leaf Palace after the transition (again, looking more black and less white than the original), and Graven Cairns may be Ancient Amphitheater.
