Army Ants Discussion
Jaceblue12 Lots of good feedback here, I appreciate it. It should be pretty apparent, but I'm not trying to optimize this deck. I'm having fun with it, I like running cute cards like Army Ants or Invader Parasite. They're not the most optimal necessarily, but they can still be useful, and also they're generally not worth wasting removal on, so they generate me a decent amount of value a lot of the time. I really like playing a card and getting that "what does that do?" reaction. I also just don't like playing with certain staples, I like winning without them. I won't include the Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth+Cabal Coffers combo in any deck I build. The same is true for Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle+Prismatic Omen combo. I understand that these are powerful combos, but I just don't think they're very fun. I don't have a mono blue player in my playgroup, I just think it's funny to hose blue players even if it's only infrequently and partially. Also when I play Choke against a mono blue player it'll be hilarious. There's a couple of your suggestions I'll consider. Squandered Resources is a good card that I somehow hadn't seen. I've been toying with Jokulhaups for a while now, and I think I might add it in over Wildfire. Anyway, thanks for the feedback!

There are some inclusions in the deck that I don't completely understand and seem like bad cards to be playing, especially in a format as crazy as commander. Why are you playing Scapeshift but not the Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle + Prismatic Omen combo? I understand it's a good way to get a bunch of landfall triggers, but you would be much better off with Life from the Loam in this slot. LftL is an auto-include in any lands-themed deck and you should be playing it. Army Ants seems way too cute and a very bad card for the political climate of a commander game. You can only take out one land every turn cycle, and the person you hurt will be salty with you. Since you seem to be going with an MLD theme, I would run Jokulhaups instead. Dragonmaster Outcast is way to slow and fragile. Cut it for Splendid Reclamation. Elvish Rejuvenator is just a bad Wood Elves. Ember Swallower is a bad card. cut it for better MLD. Same goes with Invader Parasite - it's a cute card, but doesn't make nearly enough of an impact for commander. Scute Mob - see dragonmaster outcast. I reccomend cutting it for Deathrite Shaman. Exsanguinate seems bad without Cabal Coffers+Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth or Vault Skirge+The Gitrog Monster. I would cut two basics for the aforementioned lands and Invader Parasite for Vault Skirge. Rites of Spring - I understand that this card is in here to work with your commander, but it's a bad card. Cut for Squandered Resources which also works well with Exsanguinate. Tsunami and Choke - is there a mono-blue player in your playgroup? If not these are just bad cards as a lot of the lands people will be playing, even in a two-color deck, are not islands. Path of Discovery seems like a bad card to me - I haven't actually played with it and I understand it works well with angry omnath, landfall dragon and avenger but if you don't have those cards it feels awful. Why is Conjurer's Closet in your deck. Unless you have one of your ~6 ETB creatures it sucks. Cut for Kodama's Reach. I would play Constant Mists over Eternity Vessel. Hope this helps!

One or two Dwarven Driller might work for damage or land hate.

I don't know how light you wanted to keep creatures in this deck but here are some suggestions. Lava Runner, Trench Wurm, Army Ants, Detritivore, Dwarven Driller. And also maybe Stench of Evil instead of Flashfires. It has the same CMC but punishes them hard if it goes off. Nice work though, love me some LD.

Doesn't specifically target non-basic lands, so no wastelands, but Lava Blister in the sideboard. Had Black Vice in the main for a while, but with play testing I was always wishing for something else in my hand. This version tends to get beat down for a while before getting the lock with a Nether Void or a Sire Of Insanity. Army Ants surprisingly useful for keeping the lock on while under a Void. Usually struggles to blow up a land before turn 3, but the reduced focus on instant destruction leaves space for more flexibility.

I think the only real problem with this deck is that you rely so heavily on one card (being Dragonstorm), and you're letting it rule your deck. Its an amazing combo when it works, but I feel it will so seldom work, and you're going to run into trouble playing against a control deck. A simple Counterspell gets rid of the entire combo. But besides that, I would remove Fleshbag Marauder, Smash, Army Ants, Crucible of Worlds, Relic of Progenitus. Relic screws over your deck because it exiles your cards too, Army Ants simply isn't worth having over Kokusho, and Crucible of the Worlds is only there for Army Ants. Also, I'd recommend Crypt Ghast for more mana, and the combo with Urborg.

@kengiczar: Oh man, Shivan Harvest seems great! I wanted to include some form of land hate and looked at Army Ants, because it fits with the Brothers' "Tit for Tat" mentality. But sacrificing my lands seemed a little too harsh when I already sac my mana rocks to get rid of artifacts. This goes straight in.
Bitterblossom: I'd like to, but it's too expensive.
Savra, Queen of the Golgari: I thought about her when I first constructed the deck, but I realized that I have too few green creatures to sacrifice to get my life back. I run the Battlesphere over the Avenger because it's more aggressive and gives me artifacts and creatures to sac.
Tymaret, the Murder King: Never got around to testing him. I guess now is the time...
Thanks for your suggestions!
