Amulet of Safekeeping Discussion

clayperce One last thing, I know nothing about sideboarding and I could really use a hand. The meta at my place is almost exclusively U/W control and 5 color humans. Also an occasional burn and mill.

For burn/tokens 4x Amulet of Safekeeping

Control 1x Bow of Nylea

Light removel 4x Sundial of the Infinite

Humans 4x Torpor Orb

Utility 4x Gruul Charm

I love Gimmicky decks like the next guy, but you can't get tunnel vision here. There's obviously potential in this kind of deck, but you gotta touch this up a bit before you can consider it a legitimate competitive contender.

Unless you can provide any potential upside to Bloodrage Brawler's discard effect, drop it immediately. Card disadvantage on an otherwise vanilla creature in range of Lightning Strike, Cast Down, Seal Away ect. is not mainboard, or even sideboard material for that matter.

That being said, Gigantosaurus, especially with your current landbase (24 no non-forest mana producing lands), should absolutely be in this deck. It's on curve with Sarkhan's Unsealing even. Demanding Dragon is worth mentioning, but it doesn't blow up your opponent's entire field when it enters the battlefield, which is the whole reason to run Sarkhan's Unsealing (especially 4 copies!).

Traxos, Scourge of Kroog indeed brings the hype, but you just don't nearly have enough historic triggers to splash him in here. Amulet of Safekeeping, and a couple of legendary creatures/planeswalkers/sagas and maybe consider 2 in the sideboard. I personally don't see much room for him to thrive here, and Traxos reeeally only works well, or it doesn't.

So, aside from a touch of spot removal (even just a couple of copies of Banefire) and Gigantosaurus, I'd suggest considering Pelakka Wurm, Aggressive Mammoth in here, even a copy or two in the sideboard. All of those cards will win, or at least get you back into some games in a few key match-ups.

Thanks for heeding my advice, nerd.

I feel like this deck needs to tend either to a midrange deck with additions like Traxos, Scourge of Kroog. Together with Voltaic Servant this card works like a normal 4 mana 7/7 trample. To go this road not much needs changing. Just cut some of the combo pieces that do nothing outside the combo like Mishra's Self-Replicator. Manalith is also really not needed when running 24 lands in 2 colours. Maybe consider cutting some of the really defencive cards as well if you go this road like Baird, Steward of Argive and Amulet of Safekeeping this can go into your sideboard though if you are facing token decks. Skilled Animator would also be in the main board in this case. Using some of the board wipes white provides or more counters blue provides should at least be in the sideboard.

Or you could focus on is the combo part of the deck. This seems to be a bit further off because in this case the deck should be loaded with boardwipes (Settle the Wreckage, Cleansing Nova) and counters (Cancel,Essence Scatter) . An interesting counter to look into either way is Hornswoggle as the treasures this provides will always turn into 5/5 in this deck. If you want to go full combo you need as many copies of each combo piece as you can and cut all the clutter. Stuff like Relic Runner, Sparring Construct and everything else that isn't control or card draw/fixing.

A fun card you migth want to run because it is fun is Magistrate's Scepter in the defencive set-up you can always treathen a counter and then on the end of their turn load it up.

It actually does make them pay 1 for each, I'll explain, though yes, storm is an ability that makes more spells, each of which target, and Amulet of Safekeeping as well as spells, storm allows you to choose the same targets with the copies, so it makes you pay one more for each.

See how it works in MTGO, I have played with it.

AlphaAuthority: it really doesn't look like thats what he was saying it all. it really looks like he was saying Amulet of Safekeeping stops Grapeshot entirely.

SynergyBuild: Amulet of Safekeeping wouldn't stop Grapeshot in storm. the storm player will more than likely have the 1 extra mana. even if they didn't, only the original Grapeshot would be countered, and the copies would remain on the stack.

I think the idea behind Amulet of Safekeeping is to go against modern and legacy storm lists, run on Tendrils of Agony/Grapeshot and Empty the Warrens. Sadly EDH storm normally uses Exsanguinate/Torment of Hailfire to win if they are an Ad Nauseam deck, or if they are normal storm Aetherflux Reservoir. Artifact storm lists use an infinite combo like Isochron Scepter/Dramatic Reversal, Paradox Engine/Strionic Resonator, or Grim Monolith/Power Artifact and Blue Sun's Zenith everyone to death.

So most lists wouldn't be affected in commander.
