Hey man! Welcome to magic. I have a few suggestions... feel free to ignore any/all of them.
Dorks are one mana creatures that tap for mana. A lot of the time people don't like them, because before you play with them you don't realize how absurdly powerful they are; people are wrong. I highly suggest running at least a handful of these guys, like Llanowar Elves, Elves of Deep Shadow, Birds of Paradise, Deathrite Shaman, Fyndhorn Elves, Elvish Mystic... In general, ramping turn one is REALLY strong, since it lets you play a turn ahead of everyone else. Though they aren't one mana, you could also consider some cards like Priest of Titania or (if you're rich) Bloom Tender, which are also pretty strong.
Slate of Ancestry is an interesting card to consider. You're running a lot of creatures, so I think in general using Slate of Ancestry will be card-positive for you. Note also that if you discard a creature card with it, Meren of Clan Nel Toth can just get it back for you.
Plaguecrafter: This guy is messed up, and he gets you an experience counter from sac-ing himself. Also, once you're at 3 exp, you can just keep recurring him.
Abrupt Decay/Assassin's Trophy: Personally, I like Abrupt Decay more since I play in a meta with a lot of counterspells and low-to-the-ground decks, but both are good. Being able to kill any card type is generally pretty powerful.
If you're in a counter-heavy meta, Veil of Summer is an absurd card.
Finally, running Ancient Tomb is worth considering. It's pricy, but the price is lower these days than it has been in a while; the ramp it offers is really, really good.
Cards I'd consider cutting:
Eldrazi Monument: Your experience may be different from mine, but I feel like this card is probably a win-more type thing in that it's only really good if you're already winning the game. You're probably better off just running card draw by something like Phyrexian Arena or Slate of Ancestry.
A few lands: If you run the dorks mentioned in (1), generally people don't play more than 33 lands.
Black Sun's Zenith: Like Butcher of Malakir, I think you have plenty of ways to make your opponents lose creatures already. You're probably better off running more universal removal, like Windgrace's Judgment.

I have a lot of recommendations for you. These may be pricey so I apologize if they're out of your price range but here you go:
Cards To Add Show
Add Reyhan, Last of the Abzan . If you can put +1/+1 counters on your creatures, your devourer will get HUGE real fast! Gets crazy too if you eat everything with Mycoloth and all those extra +1/+1 counters go to him.
Add Triumph of the Hordes . This cards a no brainer for token swarms and huge powerful armies. Remember, it only takes 10 infect to kill someone.
Add Moldervine Reclamation . Just a simple life gain/card draw engine for your devourers.
Cards To Swap Show
Replace Thorn-Thrash Viashino with Bloodspore Thrinax . Viashino doesn't provide any positive effects for devouring. Bloodspore Thrinax on the otherhand can push a token deck into an absurd board state.
Replace Mother Bear with Jade Mage . Mother Bear is situational and requires her to be in the graveyard prior to using her. And the value isn't all that great. With Jade Mage you can use all of your mana every turn to do at least something.
Replace Emrakul's Hatcher with Tendershoot Dryad . Emrakul isn't that great for your token production. Tendershoot on the other hand can buff all of your saprolings and in a 4 player game, it'll produce 3 tokens by the time it comes back to you.
Replace Algae Gharial with Poison-Tip Archer . You won't get much value out of Gharial. Poison-Tip Archer on the other hand can be lethal if kept on the board. It's basically a stronger Mayhem Devil .

You know, Algae Gharial could be neat here. It counters the -1/-1s being put on it, and keeps growing. It also has shroud.

Love the deck!
The Thornbite Staff + Vampire Nighthawk combo is stellar.
+1 for that combo alone.
This deck idea is fantastic, but it could certainly get filled out.
If you want to go creature heavy, focus on cards that benefit from things dying and swing for lethal.Cards such as:
If you want to be pure effect based, something like Blood Artist would provide a positive life-net while you're also slowly eating away at your opponents.
I am probably going to throw together my own idea for this deck; if it's alright with you, of course!

yeah, specifically, when a triggered ability triggers, it doesn't go on to the stack until the player who controls it get priority. Algae Gharial will trigger during the resolution of Blasphemous Act, but its triggered ability will not be put onto the stack, much less resolve, until after Blasphemous Act has resolved and killed Algae Gharial.
In order for the Gharial to benefit from a boardwipe like that, you'd have to protect it from it. something along the lines of Sword of Fire and Ice or Mark of Asylum (which would protect your entire board from Blasphemous Act)

It'll get no counters.
Blasphemous Act deals 13 damage to every creature, all at once. Then, each one will die from having lethal damage marked as a SBA. Even though the ability triggers for each other creature, the Algae Gharial is no longer on the battlefield by the time the abilities resolve

We're playing commander and I just casted Blasphemous Act to wipe a board of about 15 creatures.

Just like Algae Gharial. So it wouldn't be necessary to sacrifice it after it resolved?
