What do you think of heroic cards as they appear very strong in the deck. Akroan Conscriptor and Akroan Crusader look great.

I still think overdrawing with Zada and Mirrorwing should not be a problem. If you cast it once with 10 tokens out and draw 15 cards, you should be able to win the game right there without decking yourself. If not, then you probably have too many slow cards that need time to build up. That, or, don't cast huge draw cards targeting these two creatures. You will only deck out if you target them. To kill a player with feather you only need to get her to 11 power ( with double strike ), which means you need +8 power worth of pump, which should be easy if you draw 15 cards.

Maybe we are focusing on different things in our builds too. My meta isn't super creature heavy, so feather can usually get through, as long as she can survive removal. Cards like Akroan Conscriptor don't work that well for me. I might give it a try in the future. There are a few cards I still need to get for my build ( Monastery Mentor is a pricier one that I know will be amazing ), so my build is far from finished. Just noting what works well in my testing so far. I would definitely say my build relies on the fact that I am running cards like Zada and Mirrorwing because some inclusions are pretty mediocre on one creature, but are amazing when they target all your creatures. We'll see how it goes with more testing this week.

First of all, thanks for making a primer on this commander! There are a lot of people starting to play this one since release, but not a lot of in depth content out yet. I have some suggestions based around my play experience with this deck:

  • Mirrorwing Dragon and Zada, Hedron Grinder : I feel Feather works best when you can go off and kill someone in one turn, usually with commander damage. These two creatures enable you to go wide while still benefiting from the instants and sorceries you are already playing in feather. Cards like Bandage go from draw one every turn to draw 1 card every turn for each creature you control, all for just 1 mana. If you are ever worried about decking yourself, just don't cast the draw card targeting these creatures. Pump spells can easily turn into 1 mana Overrun s. Usually the turn I drop this, as long as I have leftover mana to play other pump spells, I can win the game.

  • Dreadhorde Arcanist : This guy is a house. You are naturally running pump spells in your deck, so you won't have a problem casting spells out of your gy. Some cards you run in the deck, such as Path to Exile , Council's Judgment or Chaos Warp , won't recur with feather, so being able to cast them another time for free is huge.

  • Twinflame , Ajani's Presence and Launch the Fleet : works best with either of the two aforementioned creatures, but can also work with strive. Can win games pretty fast when you swing with even just a couple creatures. Ajani's presence has saved my board countless times from board wipes as well.

  • Samut's Sprint , Brute Strength , etc: Most of my games with feather end in drawing into Temur Battle Rage and casting on feather when she is power 11 or greater. This requires many small cmc, efficient pump spells to fill your draws in the early game.

Cards I would replace:

  • Veilstone Amulet and Scroll of the Masters : Veilstone amulet can be accomplished with other cards we play for less mana ( eg. Apostle's Blessing, shelter, etc. ). Spending 3 mana to drop a do-nothing artifact isn't where the deck wants to be. Scroll of Masters is cute but I think we can get better effects in just the instants and sorceries we run.

  • Sentinel Tower and Guttersnipe : I considered both of these cards when making the deck, but I found they played out too slow. I couldn't find a time when I would like to cast Sentinel Tower rather than spend mana casting a draw spell on feather. Guttersnipe felt the same way. He also tends to attract a lot of hate when I'm not ready to finish my opponents. The nice thing about feather is you can amass enough card advantage by the mid game where you can explode and possibly one-shot your opponent.

  • Akroan Conscriptor is a bit slow and can provide no value depending on the board state.

  • I don't know how I feel about Grapeshot . I guess you will be playing 3-5 spells each turn, but a reusable card to deal 5 damage to a target every turn seems pretty slow to me. You should be able to not care about an opponents creatures most of the time ( she has flying, can give protection with various spells in deck, etc ) so killing creatures isn't as valuable and doing 5 damage to an opponents face is pretty lackluster.

  • Silverclad Ferocidons : A card that is > 5 mana should win the game for you when you play it. This card doesn't do that. I would much rather play 5-6 of my cheap instants/sorceries then play this card in a turn.

There are probably other cards I could think of and recommend, but I'm still working on my own list and tweaking it as I play the deck. Thanks again for writing a primer on this commander! Enjoy!

multimedia Thanks for your suggestions! My deck did run Balduvian Rage for a long time; but I decided against it for two reasons: for one; it’s a fake instant. You can only cast it on an Attacking creature, so you completely miss out on the recast ability a “lesser” card like, say, Titan's Strength gives you. That, plus the fact that you pretty much have to tap out (4 mana for a pump spell is a LOT in this deck) to make it equal to said Titan's Strength just isn’t worth it imo. Plus, Orim’s Thunder is a repeatable destruction spell that I can kick while Sunforger tutors it up; which I find baddass.

Stand Firm is a highly underrated card in this deck as scrying two in the late game really helps me dig for answers or protection; and honestly I think more decks should run it. The stat boost is minimal compared to the recurring value of possibly scrying 8 before your next turn begins. That said; if they ever print an instant of Seize the Day that is 4CMC or less you’d better bet your ass I’ll add it in.

Knight of the White Orchid was originally in this deck but I removed it for a Tithe , so that way I can search for Mistveil Plains and get that sweet Sunforger synergy. If I could make a cut that would allow me both Knight AND the Bauble I’d be happy; as the Knight is situational in that I need LESS lands than my opponent whereas Bauble don’t care. That, and I run Bauble for the minute chance I can drop it whilst I control a Monastery Mentor . That’s it. Knight is just a decent bear that I wouldn’t want to target over any other creature in the deck.

Guttersnipe is, admittedly, a great card; that I would love to reinclude at some point just for pure value; but alas the vast majority of the time I win through Feather going face REALLY hard instead of my tokens getting the reacharound; so Guttersnipe’s aoe damage isn’t as valuable to me right now... plus, Akroan Conscriptor has some Janky combos of his own; allowing me to Cloudshift a creature he stole to allow me to keep it for forever: or even Path to Exile it so I can ramp while removing their board! :D

Forbidden Orchard is neat; though I’m not a fan of giving my opponents reseources when my gameplan is to out value them. Ill give it thought.

I would actually add a lot more mana ramp, especially mana rocks that tap for colored mana. From what I've experienced, creatures also aren't as relevant. I would shorten your 'Heroic' list of creatures to just a few ( Akroan Conscriptor , Akroan Skyguard , and Tethmos High Priest )

There is also a lot of instant/sorcery ping, which will be viewed as super threatening and could mean a boardwipe with enough of them, which your deck could easily do.

more 1 mana cantrips : Bandage , Cloudshift (with things like Solemn Simulacrum ) Expose Evil

Again, you mainly need more mana (in my opinion)

Forgot to mention about Akroan Conscriptor his end of turn effect can be overriden by using any flickering effect (my deck has a lot of them) so you basically steal your opponent's creatures for 5 mana + 2-6 in form of 1 cantrip and 1 flicker. I agree that having your commander stolen is the unfunniest thing imaginable, but since my playgroup did a lot of it to my atraxa precon, gotta give them that feeling :)

I don't really like Electrostatic Field , Firebrand Archer , Thermo-Alchemist and Guttersnipe since those deal playwide damage and it really makes people want to kill you first since you cant controll your damage.

Also I forgot some cheap lands that will help to solve color problems (I figured out im going to have a lot of them)

Zequen on Feather, Redeeming Your Spells

Minor improvements, your rocks make a lot of colorless mana. Most of your spells are one or two mana, and don't use much or any colorless mana. Replace them with Marble Diamond or Fire Diamond or something similar because I am sure you will find Thran Dynamo will not be as useful as you want.

Akroan Conscriptor with Cloudshift will cause permastealing creatures as a nice combo.

You included some odd choices for protection. Apostle's Blessing >> Faith's Shield or Blessed Breath unless you really think protection from artifacts will be relevant.( Bathe in Light is also good in it's own way)

Niveous Wisps and Crimson Wisps is another solid option from card draw. Guided Strike is decent too.

Magnetic Theft + Sunforger is a nice tutor combo. To be fair you can also steal equipment from other players as well with this without Sunforger

Vanguard of Brimaz and Akroan Crusader can be useful for better blocking and adds more creatures.

For win cons you can think about Aetherflux Reservoir , Sphinx-Bone Wand , and even Sentinel Tower .(even if that one only works on your turn) You can also add Guttersnipe to end games as well.

A Fun add is Intimidation Bolt . Hit you own creature and you can't be attacked for the rest of your game as long as you have 3xplayers mana. (oh look Feather, the Redeemed is a 3/4, and will live from that ;) )
