Aim High Discussion

Kexys on Cat Tribal (Almost)

Lebleu1806: I've been looking at Appeal//Authority as a good way to end the game, especially with Oketra the True, who becomes a minimum of 7 attack with double strike as long as she is activated. I was thinking more Aim High than Djeru's Resolve, as this deck has a distinct weakness to flying. Still all testing though. I honestly can't think of anything toside in for Hour of Devastation, do you have any ideas?

Jwardle527: Oketra very often becomes my win condition, or at least a big enough threat to deter opponents. With one Gideon, Ally of Zendikar emblem, she is not only able to block a Verdurous Gearhulk at 8/8, but threaten to kill it right back. I tried running Felidar Sovereign as well, but its won con turned out to be mostly irrelevant. If I had 40 life, I was already in a very good position to win shortly after. Also, because it's at the start of your upkeep, it gives the opponent a whole turn to deal with it, and in this meta, it really doesn't last long.

Drop the blue dude. Instead of Dispel Heroic Intervention should handle most anything you need it for.Aim High can provide you with a kiora like effect on your cat as well as give you a much needed answer for flying. Ornamental Courage and Djeru's Resolve will also untap exerted creatures, not to mention Always Watching stops it from being a problem in the forst place. I have been there bro, you want to use this one cool card and want your deck to be on theme. I know that feel, but if you want it to be somewhat decent, you need to pick the theme or the card you love. You want a cat deck, listen to those above trying to help. You want a kiora based deck, go hardcore simic maybe splash a third color but she is a mermaid and fish hate cats. I am not trying to come across as mean or anything of the sort, but losing consistently is not fun. Even if you pull out some wins here and there a lot of the tier one decks people will be playing will probably make your life unpleasant. Good luck to you if you decide to keep the blue, maybe an Altered Ego would help but I still suggest selesnya all the way

Love the wolves, so a big +1 for giving them a go!

Wolves are traditionally very weak to Flyers so depending on your meta, you may want to add some flyerhate in the sideboard. I like Plummet but Clip Wings, Tears of Valakut, or Take Down might be better for yours. Or Aim High/Vines of the Recluse, which is probably my favorite combat trick ever.

You might want to stop by the All Things Wolven thread too.

Draw well!

I tried something similar with Mirrorwing Dragon to copy the effects of Aim High and Blossoming Defense to a range of exert cards - see Mirrorwing Exerted

You bet!

I was thinking about this some more though, and I realized I forgot to mention anything about flyerhate. Wolves are notoriously weak to flyers, and now that Temur Midrange (featuring both pesky Thopters and brutal Glorybringers) has become a HUGE part of many metas, it's a real weakness for the deck. There are lots of good ways to answer a Turn 4 Glorybringer, but I personally like Tears of Valakut and Plummet. Or maybe Vines of the Recluse/Aim High ... they're probably my favorite combat tricks ever, but require a creature on board with at least 3 toughness (so it can survive the 4 damage if he Exerts).

As always, draw well!

Moby_Copperfield Thanks, I originally ran this deck as a more Silverfur Partisan focused build with Vines and Aim High. But I found them to only be worthwhile enough in side board and the matches where they matter the most usually end up going longer, making the Aggro plan not really viable. While Aethersphere Harvester isn't exactly a flying powerhouse, the fact that it survives board wipes and can be crewed by nearly anything makes it valuable enough to raise my mana curve a bit.

As of right now I'm still running Invigorated Rampage in the sideboard just for the crazy amount of wolf tokens it can make with Silverfur, but I'm trying to shy away from some of the less impactful "One and Done" spells.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Having to tap both Loam Dryad and another creature for 1 mana just seems a little clumsy. I would prefer something like Naga Vitalist in this position. With Mirrorwing or Zada on the field, Aim High or Ornamental Courage are likely to give more value than Saheeli's Artistry (which is your only blue card)

The options I considered versus flyers were the instants Vines of the Recluse, Aim High or Spidery Grasp

Appreciate they are one use, but they can provide quasi-vigilance and may end up removing the pesky flyer.

They also trigger Silverfur Partisan bringing in a surprise blocker.
