Aim High Discussion

Ryjo on Raptor Burn

I see a few cards in your list that will rotate out when Ixalan rotates in. Cinder Glade and Game Trail rotate out, so you will probably want to switch them out with Sheltered Thicket and Rootbound Crag. Aim High is also rotating out, Gift of Strength might be a suitable replacement. Avacyn's Judgment also leaves, so you could replace it with Shock since it domes your opponent the same. Arlinn Kord is going to be hard to replace, but maybe Samut, the Tested would work.

I like the deck, but I think a few of your cards are working against your burn theme.I don't think you'll be able to flip Growing Rites of Itlimoc with only 9 creatures in your deck, and Makeshift Munitions doesn't have enough creatures/artifacts to consistently be of use, and even when you have it and creatures, you lose out on damage by sacrificing your creatures. I think adding in Rampaging Ferocidon and filling out your Ranging Raptors would be a better use of those 6 slots. And while Bonded Horncrest seems good as a 5/5 for 4, Ripjaw Raptor will probably be of more use to your deck.

Fury of the Horde would be pretty good if you want extra turns and Paradox Engine should be added to the main board and four Aim High and four Spidery Grasp

Awesome feedback, thank you!!

Given that, I am definitely taking out Samut, as you said it's a cute trick. Haha.

I am thinking of adding in Lethal Sting, just not sure how many...

I like Ornamental Courage over Aim High ONLY because I don't want any cards to cycle out of standard anytime soon.

Thoughts on what to cut to put in Ornamental Courage and Lethal Sting would be great!

Other than that, I think I might need to rework too much for a burn package for Soul-Scar Mage as I don't have too many spells in here.

I really like your concept and execution here! It's a fresh take on -1/-1 counters for sure. If I were you, I'd be tempted to add Soul-Scar Mage and a burn package over Crocodile of the Crossing/Rhonas the Indomitable/Consuming Fervor, since those three are mostly just in for big beats but they aren't hugely necessary for -1/-1 stuff.

I might also cut Samut. It's a cute interaction with Glorybringer, but it'll only work when you have both of them out, and Samut is a huge target. Try a G "untap target creature" instant like Aim High or Ornamental Courage instead?

Best of luck! Reply with anything else I can do!

I would just like to recommend Aim High. I like it more for the reach and 1 drop less than the strike.

Lebleu1806: I've been looking at Appeal//Authority as a good way to end the game, especially with Oketra the True, who becomes a minimum of 7 attack with double strike as long as she is activated. I was thinking more Aim High than Djeru's Resolve, as this deck has a distinct weakness to flying. Still all testing though. I honestly can't think of anything toside in for Hour of Devastation, do you have any ideas?

Jwardle527: Oketra very often becomes my win condition, or at least a big enough threat to deter opponents. With one Gideon, Ally of Zendikar emblem, she is not only able to block a Verdurous Gearhulk at 8/8, but threaten to kill it right back. I tried running Felidar Sovereign as well, but its won con turned out to be mostly irrelevant. If I had 40 life, I was already in a very good position to win shortly after. Also, because it's at the start of your upkeep, it gives the opponent a whole turn to deal with it, and in this meta, it really doesn't last long.

Drop the blue dude. Instead of Dispel Heroic Intervention should handle most anything you need it for.Aim High can provide you with a kiora like effect on your cat as well as give you a much needed answer for flying. Ornamental Courage and Djeru's Resolve will also untap exerted creatures, not to mention Always Watching stops it from being a problem in the forst place. I have been there bro, you want to use this one cool card and want your deck to be on theme. I know that feel, but if you want it to be somewhat decent, you need to pick the theme or the card you love. You want a cat deck, listen to those above trying to help. You want a kiora based deck, go hardcore simic maybe splash a third color but she is a mermaid and fish hate cats. I am not trying to come across as mean or anything of the sort, but losing consistently is not fun. Even if you pull out some wins here and there a lot of the tier one decks people will be playing will probably make your life unpleasant. Good luck to you if you decide to keep the blue, maybe an Altered Ego would help but I still suggest selesnya all the way

dzanon,
Love the wolves, so a big +1 for giving them a go!

Wolves are traditionally very weak to Flyers so depending on your meta, you may want to add some flyerhate in the sideboard. I like Plummet but Clip Wings, Tears of Valakut, or Take Down might be better for yours. Or Aim High/Vines of the Recluse, which is probably my favorite combat trick ever.

You might want to stop by the All Things Wolven thread too.

Draw well!
