Afflict Discussion

Gidgetimer on Do Sorcery/Instant and Planeswalker buffs ...

One of the State-based Actions that are routinely checked and performed is that if a creature has both +1/+1 counters and -1/-1 counters an equal number of each are removed until only one type remains. Keep in mind again that counters are only placed if the effect specifies counters, and that other types of P/T changing counters (usually from older cards) are not included in this.

Blur of Blades and Battlegrowth WILL remove each other's counters.

Afflict WILL NOT remove the counter from Battlegrowth .

The counters from two Blur of Blades and the counter that Baron Sengir gives himself WILL NOT remove each other.

Some cantrips would be the equivalent of something like Think Twice: Afflict, Gravepurge, Footbottom Feast

The new undaunted kill spell for large games: Curtains' Call

Given your number of cheap instants, Isochron Scepter could work as well

It looks like Odyssy would have been fun to draft, with Magic's first real graveyard-matters cards (e.g., Crashing Centaur, Werebear, Overeager Apprentice, and Crypt Creeper), some interesting Instants (e.g., Shelter, Afflict, Rites of Refusal, and Muscle Burst), and some curious manafixing (Bog Wreckage). Out first pick was pretty easy though:

Tomorrow: Torment
(Well, unless we mess up the order again!)
