Right off the bat it looks really good. All of the standard categories are covered. There are a few cards though that don't pull enough weight. I'm not sure Arctic Aven, Dawnfeather Eagle, Aven Fateshaper, Serra Aviary, Brave the Sands, and Always Watching do enough to keep around. Derevi gives all your creatures a psuedo- vigilance already. I would replace these with Judge's Familiar, Windbrisk Raptor, Mindshrieker, Aerie Mystics, and Kangee, Aerie Keeper. There are also good arguments to include Mirror Entity or Beastmaster Ascension for an easy win-con, Rout or Phyrexian Rebirth to wipe the board, and Basalt Monolith or Gilded Lotus to abuse Derevi Untap triggers. Rounding out the mana base with a Seaside Haven and the bounce lands will keep your hand full. Later upgrades I would consider adding would be Kruphix, God of Horizons and Reliquary Tower to max hand size and allow you to keep all of the extra mana Derevi enables.

Aerie Mystics is not legal, also Cloudfin Raptor is a bird.

Cancel is pretty bad, I get it, its cheap, but I would suggest either the original Counterspell orDissolve since they do more for the mana put into them. Wall of Blossoms or Wall of Omens is a way better pick over Carven Caryatid for obvious reasons. I will always recommend Restoration Angel and Felidar Guardian over instants and sorceries that don't stick around like Momentary Blink. The other upside to Restoration Angel is that she can be a surprise blocker that's out of bolt range and flies, which is always a plus. If you are running into trouble with Torpor Orb and Hushwing Gryff and Tocatli Honor Guard, run Swords to Plowshares /Path to Exile and for the orb: Naturalize/Krosan Grip. In place of those charms I would run Bant Charm, its the best charm you should be playing since it takes care of an artifact (or torpor orb), an instant, or a creature (with torpor orb's effect on it) and Angelic Purge, they're so good! Get rid of the Tamiyo, she doesn't fit the theme of the deck, nor is she directly progressing your game plan, I would recommend Kiora, Master of the Depths, she untaps Roon (and a land), can dig for a creature or land, and if you get her there you can gain spot removal, that and she isn't as mana intensive. I also believe that you need either lower CMC creatures or get a Birthing Pod (pod also combos with Felidar Guardian). Aerie Mystics does nothing, don't get me wrong, they look cool, but they don't do anything when they enter play, and they might protect your stuff, but that's assuming that you have the mana open to do so especially if you want to play those big CMC creatures I mentioned. The sword needs to go, I'm sorry, the sword just sucks hard-boiled eggs. I used to have a control magic in my deck, Its not what this type of deck is looking for, the same goes for the djinn its way too slow. Gilded Drake is obviously better, but its really expensive, but effective. I'm surprised you don't have a Duplicant in here. Minion Reflector and Ashnod's Altar are niche picks from me, I'll let you figure out how they go infinite! If you want an AEtherling then get one, not a goofy enchantment. You would probably need to add wastes to your deck, but Eldrazi Displacer can help you not rely on casting Roon as much and start focusing on the value you need to generate. Get a Mulldrifter, its too good not to have. If you still have Derevi, Empyrial Tactician add her back in. Commander's Sphere is better than the keyrune, hands down. And for the final bit I'll add (if you want more advice just ask or see my Roon deck) is a ramp set, Solemn Simulacrum, Explosive Vegetation, Blighted Woodland, and Armillary Sphere.

So. I was in your shoes. And what you got is what I had. Pretty solid. eventually however, I got bored of the deck and it not quite playing well. So, I removed kengee as the commander and in his place put Derevi, Empyrial Tactician. This opens up ramp, cards like Flurry of Wings , Birds of Paradise, Aerie Mystics --- also untapping creatures after combat or tapping someone else's things so the next person can swing into them are just good options--- you get the point. anyway, just food for thought. also, if you want, check out my derevi deck. I really like this direction of uw, seems a lot stronger and more forgiving to draft. It plays well with the rest of the cube and there is definitly room for some crazy stuff in the colour pair!Potential addition

Aerie Mystics good splash in fliers

Warden of Evos Isle duh

Thunderclap Wyvern this is just good

Drogskol Reaver high, high end of the fliers deck, good with equipment

What do you think of a blink subtheme? It works well with some of the cards already in the cube and with these additions i think it could be cool. Adding some blink would make it so that both wx and ux could go in that direction and bring more depth to The cube. Exampels Conjurer's Closet

Ghostly Flicker

Momentary Blink

Deadeye Navigator

Eerie Interlude

Mistmeadow Witch

Roon of the Hidden Realm

There are more but these are the ones i came up with off the top of my head.

To clarify, i'm not saying that we should make an archetype out of this, just that it could be good value in the cube. Since most of the blink spells doubles as protection i could see them go into multiple decks.

I like the cuts and I could also see trimming the number of high end artifacts. Just to smooth out the cube.

Decent primer, I'll keep it in favorites for a while.

Commanders I'm looking at are Aerie Mystics or Bant Battlemage and building a controlish tempo deck with a pack of fatties to threaten combats, Naya Battlemage in a more creature-heavy -but similar- fashion (maybe even taking an Impact Tremors/token route)... Mistmeadow Witch in a U/W Control archetype... Blood Cultist cruel control... Nulltread Gargantuan is an idea since a 5/6 commander for effectively 4 mana doesn't seem bad in a combo-friendly guild, or Selkie Hedge-Mage in tempo... enchant voltron Ascended Lawmage seems perhaps the most powerful deck... Grixis Battlemage gives inherent card and combat tricks, so a tempo deck seems plausible... and lastly Woolly Thoctar, like Nulltread above, is an all-beef patty for chump change.

Ruffigan on [PDH] Bant Combo

So I'm trying to build a Bant combo deck for Pauper EDH and I'm struggling to choose a commander. None of them benefit the Ghostly Flicker/Cloud of Faeries combos so I've narrowed it down to commanders that can utilize cards that aid Midnight Guard/Devoted Druid/Axebane Guardian combos. These are my choices:

  • Ragnar: Can use haste equipment and helps keep my combo creatures on the board.
  • Skyward Eye Prophets: Can get some serious card draw/ramp going with untap effects, but comes out in the mid game.
  • Aerie Mystics: No synergy with either combo camp, but can protect my creatures from targeted removal.

Also, any potential combos in that you think I should run would be greatly appreciated as I'm not very familiar with Pauper combos beyond Cloud of Faeries and Midnight Guard.
