KrazyCaley's Top 10 Most Disappointing Worldwake Cards

by KrazyCaley

7 February 2010

There are a lot of awesome cards in Worldwake, and Wizards is truly to be commended. worldwake/novablast-wurm.jpgNovablast Wurm, worldwake/urge-to-feed.jpgUrge to Feed, worldwake/wrexial-the-risen-deep.jpgWrexial, the Risen Deep, worldwake/omnath-locus-of-mana.jpgOmnath, Locus of Mana, of course worldwake/jace_the_mind_sculptor.jpgJace, the Mind Sculptor and many more. But we're not here to talk about them today. We're here to talk about the cards that make you look at them and think "really, that's it?"

Disclaimer- Yes, all cards have a use. I'm sure there's some deck out there that can turn each of these cards into some kind of crazy weapon. You can do that with just about any card. Still, these all are, in my opinion, pretty awful.

10- worldwake/jagwasp-swarm.jpgJagwasp Swarm

This card is boring and underpowered. I know black traditionally isn't very strong in the air, but a 3/2 for 4 is just insulting. You'd have to be desperate even to put this into a draft deck, and if you did, I'm pretty sure you didn't draft very well.

On the plus side- You can regenerate it with time-spiral/swarmyard.jpgSwarmyard!!! DO I SMELL A COMBO? Also, this card is worth spending one more mana on vs. zendikar/vampire-nighthawk.jpgVampire Nighthawk because it does one more damage. Clearly.

9- worldwake/guardian-zendikon.jpgGuardian Zendikon

I like the Zendikon series. worldwake/wind-zendikon.jpgWind Zendikon in particular is a very strong card that I'm sure would have been in all the entries for the Monoblue Aggro challenge had I hosted it now. White, however, gets the short end of the Zendikon stick with a 2/6 non-flying defender. This card would be ok if it were a flying 2/6 wall OR if it cost 1W. Instead it costs 2,1W, and it's just basically pretty damn crappy.

On the plus side- It doesn't die to worldwake/tomb-hex.jpgTomb Hex!

8- worldwake/tomb-hex.jpgTomb Hex

Let's check this bad boy out. For three mana, you can shards-of-alara/infest.jpgInfest one, and only one creature. Never mind that black has vastly superior kill options, or that it could actually cast shards-of-alara/infest.jpgInfest itself for the same amount of mana. But look, landfall! Play a land, and you can Infest a single creature TWICE! For three mana. Which, ah, still isn't very good at all at three mana. Use only if desperate for removal.

On the plus side- Having trouble with 2010-core-set/darksteel-colossus.jpgDarksteel Colossus? Cast Tomb Hex on it three times and you'll kill it dead! Assuming you've played a land that turn. And are willing to spend nine mana on doing so.

7- worldwake/goliath-sphinx.jpgGoliath Sphinx

Nothing says "zoo" like Blue. Blue is a color renowned for its huge, nasty beaters, which come in late game and just eat you with pure damage. Personally, as a blue player, I've been wondering when I was going to get a giant flying creature with no abilities that costs 7 mana. I was going to use it in my...uh........my.........deck....that.....um.......well, I guess it doesn't fit in any deck. I'm going to pray for deliverance from this nonsense from the Blue gods at my Blue shrine for a while; I need to be cleansed. "And lo, it is written: there shall come a day when seventh-edition/counterspell.jpgCounterspell shall be reprinted, and deliver the Blue players of the world from evil and ridiculous 8/7 fliers with no abilities."

On the plus side- ninth-edition/vizzerdrix.jpgVizzerdrix just made a new buddy!

6- worldwake/thada-adel-acquisitor.jpgThada Adel, Acquisitor

This card isn't the worst thing I've ever seen, but it's certainly one of the most disappointing rares you can pull in this set. At least you get, for three mana, an islandwalking 2/2. If your opponent has artifacts and Thada lives and she breaks through and hits your opponent, you get an artifact out of his library. You still have to pay for it, sadly. A bit poor. This card could have been a fun sideboard card if you didn't have to pay for the artifact. Instead, this is a clunky card even for casual.

On the plus side- Better answer than worldwake/tomb-hex.jpgTomb Hex for that 2010-core-set/darksteel-colossus.jpgDarksteel Colossus. If you have 11 mana, anyway.

5- worldwake/stone-idol-trap.jpgStone Idol Trap

TIKI GOD NO LIKE BEING ON LIST. KRAZYCALEY HAS DISPLEASED TIKI GOD. TIKI GOD WILL MAYBE KILL ONE OF KRAZYCALEY'S DUDES THIS TURN AND THEN MAYBE DO A MODERATE AMOUNT OF DAMAGE NEXT TURN. GOOD EFFECT. ONLY, TIKI GOD COSTS 6, AND IS ONLY EFFICIENT IN SITUATIONS WHERE TIKI GOD'S CONTROLLER IS GETTING SWARMED ANYWAY. NOT LIKE RED HAS ANY OTHER CREATURE REMOVAL RIGHT? TIKI GOD MIGHT BE NICHE CARD FOR RED DECK WINS SIDEBOARDS TO DEAL WITH MONOGREEN TOKENS OR VAMPIRES OR ANYTHING ELSE WITH LOTS OF CREATURES. EXCEPT RED DECKS HAVE MANY, MANY, MANY BETTER ANSWERS. TIKI GOD FEEL UNDERAPPRECIATED.

On the plus side- Every time you play this, which will be never, you can yell "YOU HAVE DISPLEASED THE TIKI GOD!"

4- worldwake/kitesail.jpgKitesail

Here are some things that take four mana to do.

1- Destroy all creatures. (tenth-edition/wrath-of-god.jpgWrath of God, planar-chaos/damnation.jpgDamnation, zendikar/day-of-judgment.jpgDay of Judgment)

2- alara-reborn/bloodbraid-elf.jpgBloodbraid Elf.

2.5- And then you'll get a shards-of-alara/blightning.jpgBlightning or whatever with that Bloodbraid Elf.

3- worldwake/jace_the_mind_sculptor.jpgJace, the Mind Sculptor, who will then mercadian-masques/brainstorm.jpgBrainstorm you for free.

4- About 5,000 other pretty good effects.

5- Give a target creature +1/+0. And flying. I guess. Whatever.

On the plus side- Does not make target creature get -1/-0 and LOSE flying. It is strictly better than a card that does that. If there were one.

3- worldwake/bull-rush.jpgBull Rush

Z is a good letter. I shall now type it a few dozen times.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

On the plus side- You can use this instead of 2010-core-set/lightning-bolt.jpgLightning Bolt if it's really important that you do TWO extra damage to a player or blocker instead of three. Thank god. I've been waiting ages for a tenth-edition/shock.jpgShock replacement.

2- worldwake/mysteries-of-the-deep.jpgMysteries of the Deep

This is insulting. I am insulted. I mean, yes, Wizards, you had your fun with Goliath Sphinx, but come now. Let's be reasonable. This is three cards for 5 mana (assuming I have played a land, in which case, scratch one of those cards). You know what else is three cards for five mana? 2010-core-set/mind-spring.jpgMind Spring. Except, Mind Spring can also be four cards for six mana, five cards for seven mana, and so on. I mean, isn't it just better?

On the plus side- worldwake/mysteries-of-the-deep.jpgMysteries of the Deep is easier to cast than 2010-core-set/mind-spring.jpgMind Spring in a multicolor deck. This will make it the premier draw card of all time. Suck on that, Caley.

1- worldwake/razor-boomerang.jpgRazor Boomerang

I feel like I'm being scammed with this card. Like I went down to the MTG mechanic and he started inventing a bunch of charges and repairs that I never really needed.

MTG Mechanic- "Yep, all right, so y'said y'wanted to do a damage thar? All right, well I setchoo up, I tell you what. First, you're gonna need a creature. Maybe one a' dem Kor."

C- "Look, I just want to do one damage here. I mean, I could do three for one mana anyway, but I'm just--"

MTG Mechanic- "Then yer gonna need 'bout three mana lyin' around. That'll get out this here worldwake/razor-boomerang.jpgRazor Boomerang."

C- "....that seems a little pricey."

MTG Mechanic- "Well then yer gonna need to hook it up to yer creature. Setchoo back another two mana thar."

C- "This is a joke, right? Or some hidden TV reality thing?"

MTG Mechanic- "And then when you do that damage, ya gotta tap yer creature. And the equipment unattaches."

C- "So I have to keep paying 2 every turn to reattach? I guess that's not the WORST thing I've ever heard of, but..."

MTG Mechanic- "Nah, when it unattaches, it goes back to yer hand. So ya gotta pay that whole 5."

C- "....."

MTG Mechanic- "Every turn."

C- "....."

MTG Mechanic- ".....s'got a cow in the art."

C- "....."

MTG Mechanic- "A purdy cow."

On the plus side- You'll change your tune when there's a Rise of the Eldrazi enchantment that says "When a card named Razor Boomerang enters play under your control, all opponents ante all cards in their decks, then they lose the game."

kabrazell says...

Pretty much hilarious.

l0ki says...
3:18 a.m. on February 8, 2010

I think worldwake/razor-boomerang.jpgRazor Boomerang's flavour text should read:

"Few can play it without losing every ounce of respect anyone who witnesses them play it ever had or will have for them ever again. Seriously dude."

And to pour a tonne of salt, vinegar and molten magma covered in a million tiny razor sharp miniture worldwake/razor-boomerang.jpgRazor Boomerangs, it is an uncommon. So instead, in my draft pack, of opening a Loam Lion or Leatherback Baloth and rejoicing, I open a this MTG coaster replacement and try not to whip out my Flame Javelin and throw it at it.

AND Thada Adel, Acquisitor is a fantastic card for an artifact match up and for Highlander play. "Hey look, a revised-edition/sol-ring.jpgSol Ring, then a tempest/lotus-petal.jpgLotus Petal, then a Mox, then a time-spiral/lotus-bloom.jpgLotus Bloom. He can even be your EDH general if you're that into him.

SirNips says...
3:44 a.m. on February 8, 2010

Though to be honest there's a reason why they are commons.

worldwake/bull-rush.jpgBull Rush will at lest see a fair amount of draft/sealed play. Its rather like zendikar/slaughter-cry.jpgSlaughter Cry just with out the first strike and one damage, for 2 less mana.

And there is never ever going to be a good combo to go with worldwake/razor-boomerang.jpgRazor Boomerang costs 5 mana and a tapped creature to do one damage. And even more depressing than that i've pulled 1 from every 2 of the boosters i've opened so far.

So i think personally i'd go with 1: worldwake/razor-boomerang.jpgRazor Boomerang 2: worldwake/butcher-of-malakir.jpgButcher of Malakir 3: worldwake/kitesail.jpgKitesail 4: worldwake/grappler-spider.jpgGrappler Spider 5: worldwake/mysteries-of-the-deep.jpgMysteries of the Deep 6: worldwake/thada-adel-acquisitor.jpgThada Adel, Acquisitor 7: The traps as a collective take out this spot due to their Niche-ness :P 8: worldwake/goliath-sphinx.jpgGoliath Sphinx 9: worldwake/tectonic-edge.jpgTectonic Edge 10:worldwake/dread-statuary.jpgDread Statuary

KrazyCaley says...
3:45 a.m. on February 8, 2010

You can find worse cards than Thada for an EDH deck, certainly. She's still a good distance away from "decent card" land in my book, though. So many preconditions have to be met before she's at all efficient.

On this we are agreed- worldwake/razor-boomerang.jpgRazor Boomerang is laughable.

KrazyCaley says...
3:53 a.m. on February 8, 2010

worldwake/grappler-spider.jpgGrappler Spider and worldwake/butcher-of-malakir.jpgButcher of Malakir were both candidates, but Grappler Spider's an ok draft card, and the Butcher might have some pretty good general use in certain decks.

worldwake/tectonic-edge.jpgTectonic Edge is a sneaky card. It's better than it looks because it obliterates mana-fixing. This makes it of little consequence in the current environment, which is full of fetch lands, but it can still wreak a little havoc here and there against the Alara tri-lands and such. It isn't god's gift to LD decks, but it is a sideboard card to consider.

worldwake/dread-statuary.jpgDread Statuary is a pretty average manland. 4/2 for 4 mana is a little underpowered, but certainly not as bad as the other cards on this list. I mean, it does 1 damage for each 1 mana you spend on it. Razor Boomerang does .2 damage for every mana you spend on it. I just realized that to kill your opponent with nothing but a Razor Boomerang, you'd have to spend 100 mana. That is HILARIOUS.

l0ki says...
4:11 a.m. on February 8, 2010

worldwake/grappler-spider.jpgGrappler Spider is amazing in Draft. Never let that Kitesail creature sail over your head again!

tapanmeister says...
5:22 a.m. on February 8, 2010

Ironically a few of the cards on your list are high picks when drafting worldwake. Of course, you'd have to be high to play most of these in constructed.

The one thing you totally overbashed and overlooked is worldwake/mysteries-of-the-deep.jpgMysteries of the Deep. The card's obvious value over 2010-core-set/mind-spring.jpgMind Spring is that you can play it on your opponents turn, leaving your mana untapped for seventh-edition/counterspell.jpgCounterspell, er, zendikar/cancel.jpgCancel, er... alara-reborn/double-negative.jpgDouble Negative, or [negate]. Chances are if you are a netdecker, you're running 8 fetches in your UWR control deck, which means popping mysteries for 3 during your opponents end step is going to happen at some point.

It's definitely no urza-s-saga/stroke-of-genius.jpgStroke of Genius, though.

KrazyCaley says...
5:30 a.m. on February 8, 2010

worldwake/mysteries-of-the-deep.jpgMysteries of the Deep IS an instant, but if you take advantage of it, you're drawing two, not three, for five mana. The land has to enter the battlefield under YOUR control, which means you ain't triggering landfall on it. 2010-core-set/divination.jpgDivination is not worth paying three more mana for to get it at instant speed, and if we're talking sorceries, just do 2010-core-set/mind-spring.jpgMind Spring. You could do worse for a draft pick, but yeesh.

KrazyCaley says...
5:35 a.m. on February 8, 2010

Fetch lands work for worldwake/mysteries-of-the-deep.jpgMysteries of the Deep on an opponent's turn, of course, as do a few other things, but they all have the same disadvantage- you have to short yourself mana while you wait to do it on your opponent's turn. And that's bad a for any deck that needs to run this card over [Mind Spring].

Perhaps not as bad as all that, now that I think about it, but I still think it makes the top ten list here. A blue player that needs to draw cards is a blue player that probably didn't have many counterspells left anyway.

kabrazell says...
11:37 a.m. on February 8, 2010

I disagree; Sir Nips! Bull Rush is nothing like Slaughter Cry, because Slaughter Cry could be played as psuedo-removal in draft. While yes you can throw a bull rush on your 2/1 to take down a 4/4, I think your opponents going to be pretty happy about that considering you just used 2 cards to take down one of theirs.

But then if they want to keep their 4/4 dude on the battlefield, know what they can play? Slaughter Cry.

great article. I think forcing some more tough cards on people like the boomerang would be great for another challenge

mattlohkamp says...
4:41 p.m. on February 8, 2010

I'm not convinced worldwake/mysteries-of-the-deep.jpgMysteries of the Deep is too terrible - there are a lot more options for getting lands out on your opponent's turn these days, fetch lands are the easy example but there are quests, ghosts, green instants, uhhh... and other things, probably, that will trigger landfall as an instant, and being able to draw 3 at the end of your opponent's turn in a non-mono-blue draw-go style of deck does have a certain ring of appeal to it... you know what would actually be better? if it were "target player draws 2 or 3 cards." Then it might be pretty neat in turbo fog builds.

Also, I'm glad you didn't include the worldwake/quest-for-ulas-temple.jpgQuest for Ula's Temple on the list - zendikar/lorthos-the-tidemaker.jpgLorthos, the Tidemaker is kind of my patron deity, and that'd basically be sacrilege. Also, whats his face, worldwake/wrexial-the-risen-deep.jpgWrexial, the Risen Deep would probably be pissed, and I've heard he's pretty good friends with all the "Proper Noun, The Title" cards, sooo...

KrazyCaley says...
5:12 p.m. on February 8, 2010

worldwake/quest-for-ulas-temple.jpgQuest for Ula's Temple is probably my personal favorite card from the whole set. Of course you curse the day you were born if you get it in a limited pack, but WHO CARES.

@kabrazell You can still use it to swing for the win. I especially like worldwake/groundswell.jpgGroundswelling and worldwake/bull-rush.jpgBull Rushing with my 0/1 worldwake/khalni-garden.jpgKhalni Garden plants. Everyone goes, okay, I'll zero. I go nope, you'll take six.

I am outraged by your attack on razor boo(moo?)merang. Clearly the card is made for the hardcore gamer. Sure you could use a 2010-core-set/lightning-bolt.jpgLightning Bolt for 3 damage, but a REAL player would much rather pay 15 mana and tie-up one of their creatures for 3 turns (or 3 creatures on 1 turn) for the same amount of damage. This is where the cows live, git u one!

You're right, Chuck. darksteel/skullclamp.jpgSkullclamp is utter crap compared to the majesty that is worldwake/razor-boomerang.jpgRazor Boomerang. What a format-warping MONSTER. I hear that the U.S. Army was briefly considering funding a worldwake/razor-boomerang.jpgRazor Boomerang project, but they cut funding after all the scientists working on the project died. It was just....too dangerous.

I actually just won a 17 man Worldwake draft last night, and I drafted a white/black deck with Guardian Zendikon AND kitesail. Both saved me several occassions. Kitesail actually won me my semi-final game. Not great cards, but in draft, they have some purpose. And I saw Tomb Hex and Jagwasp Swarm run with some okay success. But yes, I agree the rest are crap. I pulled a sphinx and I never even for a second considered playing it.

link51 says...
8:52 p.m. on February 9, 2010

I must say that I disagree with worldwake/tomb-hex.jpgTomb Hex being on this list, I can see why you put it on. Here are a few reasons why...

  1. shards-of-alara/infest.jpgInfest is Sorcery speed....Tomb Hex is instant cast

  2. They cost the same, except Tomb hex costs 2 collerless instead of one which makes it a better card for multi-color decks

  3. Landfall... sure it's only good on your turn and effectly would consider it a Sorcery, but it would have the same cost and add an extra -2/-2

Just my views on that card.

patrickd117 says...
9:54 p.m. on February 9, 2010

I generally with this, except for Thada being on it, this is really for multiplayer formats, especially EDH, if you don't like it, its because it wasn't designed for anything noncasual, and even some casual formats.

KrazyCaley says...
10:40 p.m. on February 9, 2010

worldwake/tomb-hex.jpgTomb Hex is far from being laughable; I have myself run it in a couple of draft decks. Still, I would never play it in standard or any constructed format; it's just too unreliable. Even monoblack players have access to the usually-better 2010-core-set/doom-blade.jpgDoom Blade, and players with red AND black in their decks have few excuses for not running alara-reborn/terminate.jpgTerminate, the most efficient all-around creature removal ever printed.

tapanmeister says...
6:22 p.m. on February 10, 2010

well obviously your list is in reference to constructed, caley. Two of the best black draft picks are on here, along with the best non-worldwake/basilisk-collar.jpgBasilisk Collar equipment in the set.

Zanven says...
6:30 p.m. on February 10, 2010

The best non-worldwake/basilisk-collar.jpgBasilisk Collar equipment in the set is surely the dreaded worldwake/razor-boomerang.jpgRazor Boomerang!

Note to self : Make deck of worldwake/razor-boomerang.jpgRazor Boomerangs and 2010-core-set/rod-of-ruin.jpgRod of Ruin.

In all seriousness though, I'd like to point out that Kaley said these cards were the most disappointing, not the worst cards. They might be great in draft and even hold use in constructed, but you could have been hoping for something more or different than what they ended up being. Also big ups to the disclaimer (opinion!).

In pure Spike terms, worldwake/eye-of-ugin.jpgEye of Ugin is probably the most disappointing Mythic I've ever pulled ("so, um, I suppose I could tap this for mana... oh, wait.") On the upside, I'm looking forward to that triumphant day when I will pay two less mana for my future-sight/steamflogger-boss.jpgSteamflogger Boss to assemble two colorless Eldrazi Contraptions instead of one and ALL OF YOU BITCHES SHALL REAP THE WHIRLWIND. ;)

Pretty good summary for constructed, out of sync with limited. Swarm, Sphinx, Kitesail, and mysteries all made appearances in sealed simply because in worldwake flying is a valuable comodity (and common card draw is card draw). True enough. Almost ANY card can be useful in the right circumstances in limited, though, except weird niche cards like worldwake/quest-for-ulas-temple.jpgQuest for Ula's Temple of course.

worldwake/eye-of-ugin.jpgEye of Ugin remains off the list because, as with future-sight/steamflogger-boss.jpgSteamflogger Boss, I fully expect it to become good soon enough.

you card evaluations are slightly skewed. If you go into a draft or even sealed event with these valuations you not going to do very well and then you'll find your self wondering why you lost when you drafted such a good deck, when the truth is you probably did'nt draft quite as well as you thought.

This card is so good in the vampire mirror its gross. Hex drops a bloodwitch and a buffed nocturnus. Outside of black wooly thoctar is perfect target discounts for this. I find that worldwake/tomb-hex.jpgTomb Hex, for instance, is only ever really worth picking if the draft is WWK/WWK/WWK, when it is indeed a pickable card, albeit nothing you'd ever run in standard. Throw some ZEN in there and you get access to some far better kill.

As to worldwake/mysteries-of-the-deep.jpgMysteries of the Deep, well, I'll believe that that's a constructed card when I see it.

Looks like you've made a controversial article KC. +1... damn where did I put that button.

Just for those who keep saying something along the lines something something something vamps. Can someone direct me to a good vamp deck, I am yet to see another one.

Sorry, meant 24 lands. So maybe 16 swamps or so.

Also, note which three cards I put first BECAUSE THAT IS THE WORST PART ABOUT PLAYING AGAINST THE VAMP DECKS.

Verdant Catacombs.

That's the one.

Also the worst part for me in playing against vamps (and in testing against them) is they always seem to top deck exactly what they need. Gee a 2010-core-set/tendrils-of-corruption.jpgTendrils of Corruption would be nice against that 4/4... Top deck'd! Now I could sure use a 2010-core-set/sign-in-blood.jpgSign in Blood to refill my hand... Top deck'd! Oh well, I guess that's what a well engineered deck is supposed to do.

Also Magic players more strongly remember their opponents' good draws over the bad, but yeah. Every card in the vampire deck is really one you don't want to see. My local standard metagame is so infested with vampires, it's ridiculous. Orbital Iona Cannon sideboard tells you how I feel about the goddamn vampires.

I said good Vamps KC.

Something like that is what every decent standard vamps deck runs.

Ok I have played against numerous Vamp decks in standard and all the ones that run that get pwned. My 16 land Vamps that run worldwake/pulse-tracker.jpgPulse Tracker are the only good (and yes I say good) vamps I have seen.

::shrug:: Haven't seen any other than you run worldwake/pulse-tracker.jpgPulse Tracker yet.

i usually run 3x or 4x worldwake/pulse-tracker.jpgPulse Tracker. It's like zendikar/vampire-lacerator.jpgVampire Lacerator, but, you know.. better.

i actualy think that worldwake/guardian-zendikon.jpgGuardian Zendikon is one of the better ones (remember lorwyn/doran-the-siege-tower.jpgDoran, the Siege Tower is my favorite card) he does a great job at blocking in a draft

kabrazell says...

Yeah Guardian does a great job blocking in draft; but if you're drafting ZEN-ZEN-WWK, no one's found a way to make a blocky-control strategy work. If the field you're playing against is any good, they'll overwhelm your wall or worldwake/smother.jpgSmother it. It's not a great choice unless you already have 3 zendikar/hedron-crab.jpgHedron Crabs by the time the 3rd pack comes around.

@quiller I usually try to win drafts, not just sit there and take hits. It's a bad card. Sure you get a blocker. Cooool. Now what? If you draft white, you draft worldwake/hada-freeblade.jpgHada Freeblade, and if it's ZENZENWWK, you draft mad black white or mono white allies if you can.

After reading this, I want to make a deck with worldwake/stone-idol-trap.jpgStone Idol Trap just so I can say "YOU HAVE DISPLEASED THE TIKI GOD". :D

@Sem48 I was tempted to for a while, but, yeah, it just wasn't any good. Tiki God is sad.

not gonna lie i run mysteries of the deep in my rwu planeswalker control and it works great have two cards in hand crack a fetch at the end of an opponents turn and laugh cuz u bluffed having a counterspell works usually but i only run 2 its not a 4 of card by any means whatsoever not one of the worst, disappointed at its cost it should be a 4th turn card but oh well if new magic players didnt hate control so much then control would be back where it should be at the top of magic
