This whole being on time thing is hard, okay?

Welcome to the weekly showcase where we offer our souls to the MTG gods in hopes they show us favor.

I have to get this out of the way. This week was rough. My life was a bit more chaotic than normal, and I haven't had the time to go through my quality control and re-dos that I normally have a chance to accomplish, so my flavor this week may not be as good as normal. However I should have the proper time to do it normally next week, so if you find a little dip in quality, I apologize!

Theros! What can you say? If you're into the Greek mythology this set was your wet dream. We got to see the Gods in action, the devotion mechanic is quite possibly my favorite mechanic ever, and Black got Gray Merchant of Asphodel. Heroic is also a mechanic I like quite a lot, and it seems to fit into the recent theme in Dominaria with Legendary creature(and sorceries??) everywhere you look. But enough talk. Let's get down to business.

Without further ado, let's get started.

Honorable Mention-

The Emissary Cycle

Erebos will grant power to those that ask, but only if the price is paid.

Heliod will grant power to those that ask, but only to those that have earned it.

Nylea will grant power to those that ask, but only to those who hunger for it.

Purphoros will grant power to those that ask, but only to those with the courage to wield it.

Thassa will grant power to those that ask, but only those smart enough to weild it.

Magma Jet

"Through your sacrifice I will gain wisdom beyond measure."

20: The Dual Eidolons

Behold the specter of the grave, and weep.

Behold the specter of heaven, and rejoice.

Out of all the color combinations that exist in magic, nothing will quite ever reach the epic feel of White vs Black. Good vs Evil. I love it.

19: Nylea's Presence

The decree of a God given action by nature.

I imagined the god of green simply touching a parcel of land and it growing with bounty beyond anything possible.

18: Portent of Betrayal

The will of the Gods must be obeyed.

I imagined a God simply saying "Fight for me" and the creature obeying.

17: Daxos of Meletis

As at home on the battlefield as the courtrooms of Theros.

This guy is a complete house. If you ever get a chance to pilot a deck with Daxos, you will come to love him too.

16: Titan's Strength

All the power to shape the world as you see fit.

A Titan can do a lot more stuff than just hold a boulder. Look it up.

15: Gray Merchant of Asphodel

A true merchant knows the most precious and valuable commodity is life itself.

This guy is the best limited common in Theros, and he was in a looooot of constructed decks back in the day. A lot.

14: Pyxis of Pandemonium

With so many prayers each day, it sometimes becomes difficult to say whose is whose.

This card is so ridiculous, and it should have a home in a chaos deck everyone seems to always want to build.

13: Time to Feed

When it's hungry, everything looks like a meal.

I'm pretty sure this flavor applies to everyone on planet earth haha.

12: Abhorrent Overlord

The winds of death will be the air to fill his wings.

I actually really love this card. I had a deck where he was the finisher and I won so many kitchen table games with him he'll always be in my top 10 favorite cards.

11: Polis Crusher

He wasn't terribly fond of something he couldn't use.

This dude must get so frustrated when he can't use enchantments.

Hard time picking this week's, but I feel it's deserved. Congrats BlazingAbsol!

Creeping Renaissance

On Innistrad, the first death is never the end. Sometimes, neither is the second.

This week's challenge is my favorite yet. If you all don't come up with something good, I'll be very upset. Goodluck:

Rescue from the Underworld

I really liked the entries this week! Nice job.

Hmm, as for my entry... Why not "The doors of death won't be undone by an undevoted heart. The moment doubt seeps in, and you look back upon the folly of your plunder, Erebos' whip will already be wrapped tightly around your throat."

"To give life, you must die"

"Orpheus came so close to rescuing his love, were it not for the Deceit of Phenax" -Tales of Theros

"When you have nothing left, anything becomes possible"

Gotta love that sweet Greek flavor! Keep up the good work my friend!

Not complaining though.

I think this week was the best one so far.

"One down, two to go."

Well, to take you down a peg - honestly, these are my least favorite entries in the series.

Thassa's Emissary was very weak compared to the rest. Thassa really does not do riddles or tests to check the smarts of her followers.

I had to read the Daxos one two times before understanding it - the "as/as" structure is kind of clunky. I think there is a missing "much" in that sentence to make it more parsable.

Pyxis of Pandemonium is literally pandora's box on a ccard; the card text captures the flavor well, while the flavor text you suggested does not.

Magma Jet one I do not get at all. What sacrifice? Scry 2 is wisdom beyond measure? Is this supposed to be Purphoros flavored.

Titan's Strength was the one I liked the most.

Congratulations BlazingAbsol!

"When you are willing to commit the ultimate sacrifice, Erebos will grant you the ultimate power."

"As he pushed the dagger into his heart, he cried out to Erebos 'she is not yours. Give her back to me!' - Erebos was pleased by his sacrifice."

I would also like to put in my vote for the next couple of sets to do. I would vote for Kamigawa next, then Alara. Both are different in the sense of their themes and concepts in Magic, plus I think we can get some interesting and different kind of flavor texts.

Erebos things he have full control of the underworld, but he was proven wrong often by heros going in and out as they want.

Thanks for choosing me last time Deco_y!

Anyway, for today's submission:

"No god can stop me from saving my loved one. Not even Erebos."

Also, I'd like to cast my vote for Alara next, especially Esper. I've always been fascinated with a world that's completely regulated and controlled by artifice, even to the point of creating the iconic flat and split clouds.

I was thinking a long time for this week awesome challenge. The card text and art really set the flavor and I think the card works perfectly fine without it. But given the opportunity:

"I would venture into the caverns dark,
fight three-headed monsters that bark,
sail the river of memories on a barque -
Erebos shall not extinguish our spark."

For the first Champions, "going to hell and back" meant triumphing over some great hydra or cyclops. Now, the phrase has taken on a more literal meaning.

Just seeing this series for the first time, and I like it! I'll be sure to tune back in.

"All that are lost, can be returned. Venture into the black, and guide them home."

"The lost have no ambition to return, you have to change their mind."

or

No soul can cross the river, unless a hero guides it.

I do love me some theros flavor. I hope WotC will return soon.

"Many don't know this, but getting to the underworld is easy. Getting back, however-well, that's where it gets sticky"

Congrats to the winner!
