So yesterday was tappedout.net's first tournament. We partnered with Cool Stuff Games Orlando for a 2K. We had a great turnout. In all we had 93 people, for a seven round swiss event, then the playoffs. After people dropped there were some side events, like drafts and win-a-bhox events. Great time really. Thank you to everyone for coming out and making it a fun and successful event. Also thanks to Cool Stuff for hosting and to the head judge, Tim Gilbert and his staff.

Throughout the day I saw tons of different decks being played. Everything from Zombies to Artifacts. But the majority of the field were our old friends, Wolf Ramp Run and Delver. After a lot of play, we hit this group of Top 8.

Stephen Mann

Stephen was playing a pretty straight-forward Wolf Ramp Run deck. he was one of the four seats in the top eight with this archetype.

Mike Letsch

Mike had one of the many Esper control decks around. He relied upon some of the common finishers in this type of deck like Wurmcoil Engine and Elesh Norn. He got knockedout in the first round of the playoffs to Brian Wade.

Robert Prine

Robert had a slightly less conventional Esper control deck that incorporated Havengul Lich and two ratchet bombs in the main which was not common for the day.

Mark Vargas

Mark was playing splash white in his WRR deck. I talked to him about it and he was using white to increase his options for removal. This was an interesting take on a deck that we saw a lot of in the tournament. Unfortunately he was taken out by Raul Ochoa in the first round of playoffs.

Brad Sesit

Brad had his own take on Delver. Mostly a conventional build but used a few cards mainboard that are not always in there like Feeling of Dread and revoke existance.

Raul Ochoa

Raul had a fairly standard WRR deck, but it had more emphasis on life gain than we see in some versions. Between fetching Glimmerposts with his titans and having four Huntmaster of the Fells  Flip mainboard, this guy was gaining life like crazy and making clean plays round after round. His deck was fast and accurate when it needed to be and the life gain made good stalls.

Finals

In the final match we had Brian Wade playing Delver and James Bishop playing WRR, which seemed fitting for the day. The match took a while as these two pounded it out round after round. The match finally went to Brian Wade 2-1.

Here is Brian in all his glory!

Sorry if the play by play is weak guys. This was my first time doing this and I found it to be overwhelming trying to figure out what to watch even.

Really wish I could have been there, but Florida is a long ways from Wisconsin.

I'm sorry, but isn't Raul Ochoa's list a carbon-copy of my Wolf Run Red list from a few versions ago?

It's literally, the same 75.

I win?

Anyways, it's good to finally see GlimmerpostMTG Card: Glimmerpost getting attention. I've been loving and abusing that card with Primeval TitanMTG Card: Primeval Titan ever since M11.

Seemed like it was good turnout. Wish that I could have afforded to go to it but maybe I will be able to attend next time.

I'm in the pink in the picture of (what looks like) registration, if that interests anyone.

That's cool. Did you enjoy the event?

April 23, 2012 11:09 p.m.

Honestly not so much, but that has nothing to do with the event itself. My friend who drove a bunch of us was just being kind of an ass and made it so none of us could drop and play in a win-a-box. Tournament itself was great and it seemed like it was running pretty smooth. Got to talk with Squire some which was also cool. Overall I'd say it was worth the money and the 2 hour drive to go out and support T/O in its first tourney endeavor.

Wish I could have attended. Congrats on the successful event!

How did he make it so no one could drop to play the win a box? Seems like it would be hard to stop you...

April 24, 2012 12:25 a.m.

He was our ride home and he was leaving before the win a box would be over. :P

Wow... what a jerk-league thing to do... In my opinion, if you go to an event like that, you have to be prepared to stay as long as everyone else wants to.

Well, sorry to hear that man.

It's sad that nobody from "tappedout" won. C'mon guys! Lets bring it together and take home the glory next year!

April 26, 2012 10:41 a.m.

You guys should come to the South Bend, IN area! Chicago, IL, Elkhart, Ft. Wayne, Kalamazoo, MI, and Niles, MI are all close by. I'd drive 2 hours!!!
