Changed a lot of things I don't remember.

Playtested against a bunch of different decks!

pichajay, 8 years ago

I play tested this deck against a whole lot of decks and found it has a weakness to burn! please leave suggestions on how to counter it.

Changed a lot.

Added Toshiro Umezawa for even more kill cards.

Added Corpsehatch because black kill card with ramp.

Added Gatekeeper of Malakir. 3 mana for a 'target player sacrifices' is pretty dam good and you get a 2/2.

Hex Parasite and Phyrexian Etchings are still great. Greed is also great.

Added Crux of Fate due to a lack of boardwipes. Need another one or two probably.

Removed a ton of shitty creatures.

Won a game by flashing Patron of the Nezumi into play with rat offering to counter a boardwipe but thinking about removing him.

Ascendant Evincar might have to go due to the lack of creatures I control that are my own.

Added Quicksand and a lot more basic land to get my commander out faster and more reliably.

Looking to remove Mind Slash and Dark Prophecy. Maybe even Sacrifice.

Mark of the Vampire adds quite a bit of lifelink on a protected commander which can offset suicidal blackness. Might need more sources of that.

Mental Vapors on a protected unblockable seems good to me.

Slight change

NoahNocturnus, 8 years ago

Replacing two Dark Ritual for two more Blood Artist. Although the rituals have helped me ramp up fast turn two or three I feel like in the long haul the Blood Artist will be of more use. Too often I end up with a dark ritual late game where its pointless as I already have enough mana to play everything. I am looking for a suggestion or two on whether or not to put one in though so comments are appreciated :)

Turn 1?

This deck will most likely be turn 2

Beat Esper Control

munthank, 8 years ago

Yes, I am proud to announce that this deck is able to compete with Esper Control! For only $40, you guys can annoy the crap out of those $400 Esper Control decks. Using our hand disruption on the play, we can strategically decimate our opponents control hand and get our Masters/Leeches out before they can stop us, and swing hard and fast. Note:If they sideboard in a ton of black/white kill/exile spells, you'll have a harder time.

Yes, I realize there's illegal cards. I just wanted to make a deck.

Tweaking for more earlier interaction/disruption

blinded2, 8 years ago

Removed -1x Merciless Executioner and -1x Priest of the Blood Rite for some earlier interaction with +2x Thoughtseize because the deck really had some issues with sometimes doing nothing at all until turn 3.

Some number of removal spells may just end up being more creatures to flip like Rakshasa Deathdealer. I think that is going to strongly depend on what decks people are playing and how much removal is actually needed. Maybe just 1 or 2 Hero's Downfall as a catchall.

Retooling

evzan, 8 years ago

This deck is much different than its original creation it has become a pet project more than anything but if I can make this work in a PTQ even to win a few games I would be so happy. All suggestions and +1s are greatly appreciated!

Fanatic of Xenagos is not just cutting it. It's a good card on its own but it's not contributing to the deck's strategy as a whole. I chose to replace it with Boon Satyr that I can use either as an early blocker/attacker or as a late game buff to the dragons. I removed Polukranos since I don't have a reliable way to activate its monstrosity ability. Between Surrak, the Hunt Caller and Polukranos, I find that I can utilize the haste better than monstrosity. I really can't decide if I want 3 Knuckleblades, 4 Arbor Colossus, or 4 Knuckleblades, 3 Arbor Colossus. Knux requires a very specific set of land draws for it to be played early on. More often that I'd like, it just doesn't happen and Knux feels like a 4-drop more than a 3-drop. I've also decided to not play more burn spells than the 4x Crater's Claws the deck already has. Reason being that the way the deck plays requires that a creature be put into the board per turn. Still not having planeswalkers is still a pain though. The sideboard is still a mess. I just placed Den Protector and Temur Sabertooth in there for the buyback potential they have, though it's not as good as Den Protector + Deathmist Raptor.

blue elemental blast is out

pryoplasm, 8 years ago

Since it was never released as a common on MTGO and only a promo, Blue Elemental Blast is out of the sideboard which is sad. I was wondering why so many people ran Hydroblast instead...
