Post-Gameday Changes

WildWithin, 7 years ago

Changes I've made since playing the deck more online and at Gameday. -1 Westvale Abbey : I originally added it as an additional win-con. The idea being that if I had 5-6 Servos/Thopters on the board, I could sac them to Abbey. Problem is that it doesn't happen very often and Abbey becomes less useful. -2 Quicksmith Spy : As someone else pointed out, Spy + Key is cute, but Spy alone isn't good enough to make the cut. +4 Reverse Engineer: Drawing cards is good. -1 Metallic Rebuke (to SB) : Needed to make room for Reverse Engineer +2 Negate : More counters are good -1 Key to the City: Rarely was I in a position to discard a card to activate. Tapping it with Improvise would occasionally work, but then tapping two to draw would sometimes stop me from playing what I needed. +1 Battle at the Bridge (SB) : This card is still under-rated. You can tap as much as you want and gain that life, despite only killing a 4-5 toughness creature. -1 Tezzeret's Touch: This card is good. 4 was too many and I needed to cut something for Reverse Engineer. It is susceptible to cheap removal.

The robits are back and booooooyyy are they shiny

It's tax season, and with those sick nasty refunds come sick nasty bling. I mean, good lord is it pretty.

I rolled into Modern on Friday and went 3-1 for the first time since... The first week I played Esper Control. And the only reason I went 3-1 there is because my opponents all flooded... Boy it felt good.

For the most part, it ran like a standard Robots deck should: flooding the board, swinging for a lot, tilting your opponent. The only real, noticeable difference was in my round four match against Grixis Control. I laid down a Pia's Revolution on game three and he spent about five minutes sitting there trying to find a way to get rid of it. His life total was so low (4) that he let me make an arbitrarily large Arcbound Ravager and float an arbitrary amount of mana. It seems great, but it's awful against Anger of the Gods (which he played in the side, of course), and Path to Exile. At this point, it seems like a "win-more" card, and as such belongs in the side, only to brought in against decks with non-exile removal. However, seeing as it's far harder to remove than a Master of Etherium, I am going to stick with it for a few more weeks in the main to see how it plays out in the long run. Only time will tell.

As for the new land, I love Spire of Industry. I don't get punished anymore for "Glimmervoid, Signal Pest, pass", and that is amazing. While those plays are rather narrow and don't show up too often (I've only had to do it a handful of games), they still hurt and I'd like to minimize them as often as possible. The pain for a color isn't actually terribly relevant with the prevalence of Springleaf Drum and Mox Opal, and it's almost like pain for Vault Skirge in a way; you take it, because it's better for you in the long run. While the choice of Spires over Glimmervoids was mostly a budget concern (four foil Spires is less than one foil Glimmervoid, after all), it seems to be playing out quite well. Again, only time will tell, but so far I'm enjoying it.

As a final update, I'm still considering OG Springleaf Drum's and Blinkmoth Nexus'. I mostly take issue with the color and the templating, but these MM Blinkmoth's look so bad in comparison to the rest of the deck... Wizards, give me a foil promo Memnite!

I put Thopter Spy Network in the sideboard while I have Vedalken Archmage in the mix to feed my hand cards, while I go off on paradox engine, and a plethora of mana rocks at my disposal late or probably early game

No Greed Update

LabManiac_Sigi, 7 years ago

It's time to win games on camera with this bad boy, so we're going full No Greed mode. IN: - Into the Roil - Spell Pierce - Torpor Orb OUT: - Fact or Fiction - Metalworker - Vedalken Shackles Vedalken Shackles is still a good card, but after taking another good look at the decks I'll be playing against soon, Torpor Orb is the better choice.

Thdion, 7 years ago

Get Lotus Bloom out first turn then on second and third turns try to get out spellbook and grinding station. On third turn you will hopefully have Vedalken Archmage and play that then start play your 0-cost artifacts one by one and sacrificing them with Grinding Station until you have no more 0-cost artifacts to sacrifice. If the opponent's library is not milled yet use Creeping Renaissance to return all the artifacts to your hand and repeat. If needed you can use diabolic tutor any time to get missing cards.

Gameplay 2/11/17

Functionally eliminated someone in game one. But the deck drew a lot of hate for Mindslaver, which while the cause of the Functional elimination, it was only due to the fact I decimated their board state. Staff of Nin combo for a late second game win in a rather long, grindy game that was lots of fun. All in all, deck had a good night.

Game Day and Sideboard Shakeup

YoungBen13, 7 years ago

So I took this deck to my local game store for AER Game Day. I was pleased with the results, but feel that the deck's sideboard was a little clunky. Here are the games.

Game 1 vs. Mardu Vehicles: The deck was pretty much the same as the one that won the PT, so I stood no chance. Both games went long, but in the end, Heart of Kiran, Gideon, Ally of Zendikar, and Depala, Pilot Exemplar did me in. 0-1

Game 2 vs. Bant Panharmonicon: This was a crazy combo deck that used Felidar Guardian and Wispweaver Angel with Panharmonicon to generate infinite mana for Walking Ballista, along with value creatures like Verdurous Gearhulk and Cloudblazer. I won Game 1 on the back of Winding Constrictor, Fabrication Module, and Bristling Hydra. Game 2 went long and he comboed out. Game 3 I won quickly with Lathnu Hellions. 1-1

Game 3 vs. Pummeler: Basically an aggro mirror. Game 1 he smashed me flat on Turn 4 with Electrostatic Pummeler because I had no removal. Game 2, we both s,ashed eachother with Voltaic Brawlers, and I won on Turn 4. Game 3 he used pummeler on T5 with Blossoming Defense and Built to Smash for the win. 1-2

Game 3 vs. Grixis Control: Game 1 I had no answer to Thing in the Ice  Flip, and he countered my key spells. Game 2 and 3 I smashed him flat with Lathnu Hellions. 2-2

In all, I made Top 8, but the cut was to Top 4. Oh well, I placed 5th overall, so that's good. I find that Lathnu Hellion is really awesome, and that my sideboard is really not great. So, I'm changing it up a bit to be better positioned against the local metagame.

STD 15 / 19
Lathnu Hellion feature for Electric Cars!

Removal added

seshiro_of_the_orochi, 7 years ago

So I thought about adding removal, which in green would be fight spells. As Shielding Plax and Call to the Kindred were about to get kicked already, I replaced them with three Prey Upon and a one-of Nessian Asp to test as a defense against flyers.

Edit: Moving Prey Upon up to four. The removal seems more necessary than the body.

V 8.0 - MORE BUDGET FRIENDLY

EMPARAWR, 7 years ago

-1 Gaea's Cradle >>>> +1 Lumbering Falls #Lands
-1 Tropical Island >>>> +1 Yavimaya Coast #Lands
-1 Forest >>>> +1 Misty Rainforest #Lands
-1 Nantuko Elder >>>> +1 Joiner Adept #Lands

Okay, so in a perfect world where we all have infinite funds to make our decks, Tropical Island and Gaea's Cradle are absolutely amazing, but in a world where our funds are limited, it is not necessarily an enormous loss to run some less costly dual lands instead. So I did it :)

Testing Paradox Engine in the deck. Removed Seton's Desire for it. I think it will work well with all the mana dorks, but we will see.

Updating!

Bloodborne, 7 years ago

I'll fix this deck soon as I can. With partner I can splass green in here and I get more clue producers and ramp :) stay tuned.

More Equipment, more ramp, better interaction

WalkerWhippet, 7 years ago

Following user Enral's advice, I shifted away from the creature-based removal and went with the Sunforger focus. Sunforger provides an answer to almost any threat on the board with Anguished Unmaking or Utter End and even protection via Boros Charm. Thornbite Staff plus your deathtouch weenies is a machine gun for targeted removal. Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite + Kormus Bell + Urborg, Tomb of Yagmoth provides a game-ending, one-sided Armageddon. Eldrazi Displacer or Mystifying Maze + Containment Priest high speed exile removal.

Gameday aether revolt

Went 3-1 at my lgs on gameday, took down mardu vehicles, RB zombies and GB delirium, only losing to grixis control. The deck seems to be performing very consistently.
