I need some help with my Infect Deck (Standard)

Deck Help forum

I've been running infect for a while. Everyone runs the quick pump infect deck that I am not as big of a fan of anymore. Today I started messing with a mono-black infect deck with some control. I've been having problems with decks that have quick destruction like Vampires and Goblin. But other than that its a good start and I think it could work with more tweaking. If anyone can help with this infect idea please do. Remember, I don't want to work on the instant pump style of infect because I already know how to do that. I want to stick to this idea. This is the first deck I have posted on this site. Also the Skithryx was added just recently so if it doesn't fit, just let me know. Also I think Necropede and Plague Stinger are very interchangeable, but I like Necropede a little better with Infiltration Lens. And I do not have a sideboard yet, but I was thinking a sideboard to turn this deck into pump would be fun. Also Stabbing Pain is nice in infect.

Creatures: 18

4x Necropede 4x Ichorclaw Myr 4x Ichor Rats 2x Corpse Cur 2x Hand of the Praetors 2x Skithryx, the Blight Dragon

Equipmenst: 3

3x Infiltration Lens

Instant: 4 4x Grasp of Darkness

Sorcery: 11

3x Sign in Blood 4x Durress 4x Nighthaze

Enchantment: 4 4x Contaminated Ground

Lands: 20 Swamps

First of all, you should post your deck in the deck builder and put a link on it.

I only have experience with quick infect decks, so excuse me if I complain about subpar card choices..

Add Blue. No control infect deck is complete without it. You need cards like Steady Progress and Inexorable Tide. You should also browse some of the U/B decks on the site.

Lets see the creatures.

4x Necropede 4x Ichorclaw Myr 4x Ichor Rats 2x Corpse Cur 2x Hand of the Praetors 2x Skithryx, the Blight Dragon

Personally I feel like you've took your fast infect build and stook it onto this deck. I really cannot judge this well because I do not know control infect well but you should add some defensive creatures to go with it. However, you do need Thrummingbirds. Once again, look around.

Lets look at your artifacts.

3x Infiltration Lens

These are great but you need proliferate. (rhyme) Contagion Clasps and Engines work well. Add some.

Instants...

Grasps of Darkness's are similar to the Infiltration Lens - good but you need other pieces. Doom Blades will work well. Steady Progress is a shoo-in.

For your Sorceries, Nighthaze looks interesting... I will remember that when I go out and improve my infect deck. I think this looks fine. It could be a bit better but I don't want to send you off on the wrong path. Look around, once again.

Contaminated Ground combos with Nighthaze... I feel like it's a bit too cute and not too reliable. It also makes your infect deck look more like a fast one. Inexorable Tides will absolutely destroy your opponent.

My most important tip is to look around. You will find great advice on your control infect build.

Well I have run both Blue/Black infect and Black/Green infect and I'm quite bored of them. And by control I mean more like Mono-Black control is, where as the control is the destruction. On the sideboard I'm working on, I include Vendetta instead of Doomblade because life isn't usually as much as a problem. I have Grasp of Darkness main decked because it is not color specific like Doom Blade and Vendetta. I was thinking of taking out the Skithiryx for 2 Contagion Engine because it puts -1/-1 Counters on everything and maybe going to a Sacrifice style infect deck. Including Mimic Vat and Demonic Appetite. The Contaminated Ground + Nighthaze combo was used in my my last mono black control deck to get an easy draw, make my opponent lose life, and to safely attack. I posted my deck up so it should be easier to read now. Playtest it and tell me where you think it suffers in the Mono-Black catagory :)

Hmm... This is quite intriguing. Once again my help will be limited.

If you are looking to experiment with some wacky infect deck builds, It will be interesting if someone would take up the U/G infect.

I really think that you should put in the Contagions. They are important.

For your type of control I recommend Consume the Meek. Consuming Vapors will work well also.

I will try and help where I can.

Proliferate! Huge bonus for this deck, I did run Contagion Clasp for a while as it not only puts a -1/-1 counter on a creature as it comes into play but also ends up being able to proliferate when you want to.

I swapped them out for Contagion Engine as Contagion Engine is devastating on its own, let alone with the deck I'm running for standard (block constructed as well)

That is what I have been running and I can run into the trap of quick Infect-Pump decks, But I have done fairly well with it in the overall scheme of things.

I would also consider running a couple of 'Trigon of Corruption' if you are going to add more proliferate to the deck.

I have won games with Trigon of Corruption if used in conjunction with ALOT of proliferate, as you just shrink your opponents creatures when they enter play.

Hope this has helped and If anyone would mind giving my Deck a quick look and tell me where I could improve, that would be much appreciated.
