This deck could use some haste. For both the big attackers and the manadorks.

And where IS that Force of Nature?

Hey pyro5torm.

If it's the guy I'm thinking of, to give him his due, it's SBMTG (Strictly Better). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0AxtapG6Ps0

Void Shatter and Disallow are arguably the best counters in the format right now.

If you're looking to go WAY out of the budget category... a playset of Torrential Gearhulk is a must in most competitive control decks.

If you want to stay with the improvise theme (which I don't think is a bad idea), I would be maindecking Glimmer of Genius (so good for control. Need that card advantage), and adding Hope of Ghirapur and maybe Inventor's Goggles . Hope is another mini-counter... and the Goggs can help improvise out Bastion Inventor, then equip to him for free.

Just some quick ideas. Hope they help.

Your deck is based around Baral, Chief of Compliance and needs to turn 4x of him to count for removal and consistency. It would also allow you to have a clear dump for Geier Reach Sanitarium if your opponent can't remove baral, so I'd drop 2x Aether Meltdown for 2x Baral, Chief of Compliance .

I'd replace 3x Compelling Deterrence with 2x Unsubstantiate and a Jace, Unraveler of Secrets since you'd be able to remove spells while they were on the stack as well as creatures on the field, possibly allowing you to return your own Torrential Gearhulk to then flash in the gearhulk on the field to use a counter spell or draw spell in your graveyard, and Jace is great mainboard. You also don't have a zombie to activate its other effect, making it worse. You can sideboard these, however.

I'd drop 1x Void Shatter main board and go with a Disallow as disallow also prevents triggered and activated abilities. It's absolutely crazy.

I don't think any of your enchantments should go in this deck as they don't do enough for what they cost as opposed to other cards.. I'd replace 3x Trail of Evidence with 3x Anticipate . 2x Mechanized Production should be dropped for 2x Thing in the Ice  Flip, and 1x Torrential Gearhulk should be dropped for a thing in the ice.

Thing in the ice will flip, returning the gearhulks to your hand, allowing to use them more than just the once.

I'd also drop 1x Engulf the Shore for 1x Crush of Tentacles so you have the chance of removing all of their non-land permanents, not just creatures as well as getting an 8/8 Kraken.

We can gut the sideboard of counter spells that aren't going to change the game and spells you can use to change the game depending on how you're doing. This would leave you with 2x Ceremonious Rejection ,2x Compelling Deterrence , 1x Disallow , 3x Dispel , 1x Jace, Unraveler of Secrets , 2x Rise from the Tides , 2x Sphinx of the Final Word , 2x Summary Dismissal .

The total changes would look like this.

-2 Aether Meltdown Mainboard-2 Mechanized Production Mainboard-3 Compelling Deterrence Mainboard+3 Anticipate Mainboard-3 Trail of Evidence Mainboard-1 Engulf the Shore Mainboard+3 Unsubstantiate Mainboard+1 Jace, Unraveler of Secrets Mainboard-1 Torrential Gearhulk Mainboard+3 Thing in the Ice Flip Mainboard+2 Baral, Chief of Compliance Mainboard+1 Crush of Tentacles Mainboard+2 Compelling Deterrence Sideboard+1 Sphinx of the Final Word Sideboard+3 Dispel Sideboard-1 Negate Sideboard+2 Rise from the Tides Sideboard-1 Horribly Awry Sideboard-1 Westvale Abbey Maybeboard-1 Rise from the Tides Maybeboard-1 Thing in the Ice Maybeboard

Neotrup on Confused about banding: Using Master ...

Additionally, if your opponent attacks with a 4/4 and you block with a 1/1 wolf with bands with other wolves, a 2/2 wolf, and a 1/4 wall, you can send 3 damage to the wall and 1 to the 2/2 wolf. The damage assignments don't have to be lethal, and you as the defending player get to decide the attackers assignment, as long as you're blocking with a 'bands with other wolves' and another wolf (with or without 'bands with other wolves'), even if there are non wolves you want to block with and give damage to.

Hi,

this device is killing the decklist. Blame it on me, it's no reference to your decklist :p

A first glace at the deck gave me some ideas already, which I will put down without keeping an eye on the budget:

Have fun and welcome in this format :)

Thank you for the suggestions. I had already been thinking that blood moon and path to exile may be a real issue.boseiju also helps with titan's presence too. Perhaps it would be better as side board instead of main. I suppose I should reconfigure my land a bit. I appreciate your input. Thank you again.

If you aren't opposed to adding non creatures Cryptolith Rite would serve you well, also Kruphix, God of Horizons is a thought since all your slivers would tap for mana any way you can have alot of mana and maybe even add Helix Pinnacle to the side board for another win condition.

Eggsofwrath on Mill, no Mog?!

I'd put in Shielded Aether Thief over both turtle and theorist. It's a better blocker, consistently generates energy and can provide card advantage, and well block most ground-based attackers. Also, if Baral's Expertise is a 4 of, maybe put in Lunar Force. It gives you delirium fuel, can be put out by expertise, and is generally an O.K. card. At worst, it's "Opponent Discards Non-Land Card" for 3 mana, which isn't a great floor, but in this deck it might actually work.

I like it. The mana curve could use a bit of reshaping to trim the high end and give you more options at CMC 2 and 3. I'd give serious consideration to replacing the expensive ones with 3 or 4 color intensity. You need more than the 3 two-color lands to support this many cards with multiple colored mana symbols. Just my 2 cents worth.

ObsidianHex Thank you for the suggestions, the spires were a pretty big oversight on my part and appreciate the call out. I went ahead and added the Animation Module, Fortified Village and an additional Forest to round out the mana base.

Thanks for the suggestions I'll play test it tonight and let you know how it goes!

Hope of Ghirapur, Metallic Rebuke, Stubborn Denial, Hangarback Walker? Hope gives you another turn 1 play to turn into a turn 2 5/5 flyer, and rebuke and stubborn are strong counterspells in this deck. Hangarback gives you resiliency to removal, and gives you free wins against certain decks.

It's random, but also repeatable. Would be nice to have if someone were to play a Descend upon the Sinful, Declaration in Stone, or some form of wrath effect. I personally don't use the card in any decks and would only run 1 if I did.

nickfrostslide on When in doubt... Improvise!

I think you might be overlooking Gearseeker Serpent. I play two of them in my version of improvise and, if unanswered, they are always game enders. Also being able to cast that and a Herald of Anguish on the same turn is DEVASTATING.

GS10 on Paradox Scepter

@CaptainTempest

I've thought about that, the deck was mainly made for fun and to change things around a bit in my playgroup, and I immediately think of Mycosynth Lattice as more of a spike card, so my mind quickly dismissed it. But now that you bring it up, that's actually much better here than I'd antecipated at first. There's the Akiri potential (even though that's not our main plan) and maybe even more importantly, there's the clause that I personally never remember the lattice has: Spend mana of any colour to cast your spells, which is HUGE with Kydele, and very useful in a 4 colour deck.

I will definitely try it out and if the deck starts to become too expensive I might publish an alternative budget list for those interested to give it a run out but not to fully invest in it (even though it's still not insanely expensive in EDH standards - and there's the whole fetch land package included in that price tag too).

I'm a strong advocate for budget options, not just because I don't want to spend money unnecessarily, but, particularly in EDH, my goal is to have a fun experience playing, more than annihilating my friends while winning. If the whole strategy relies on that expensive card, I'd get it in time; if not then I'd go into how that card contributes to the meta and healthy play in my group. I'll think about getting it if I figure it will be real fun and cool for everyone, or keep a more budget friendly card if I don't think that the expensive card brings that much to the table in terms of fun.

Thanks for your comment!

Hi,

always do my best to be as helpful as possible. I can still remember when I started my first deck, if you like to see what my first deck has become as of today, then click here. An upvote is always a nice gesture :)

Now let's see what I can contribute to your decklist. Personally I am not a huge fan of this commander, therefor I never played it myself. But I have a friend who is very happy about his build, which gave me some real good matchups.

I do know which cards he preferred to play, which you have not on your list:

Good luck with your first EDH decklist and keep playing, keep tweaking and keep havin' fun!

If you have any foils for Modern Esper Draw Go however (some of which are listed in my binder) I would definitely be intersted - particularly Supreme Verdicts, promo or pack foil.

Now that I look at it again, you have next to no mill-resist. Mesmeric Orb would be terrible for you. Don't mind me. The Traumatize / Keening Stone combo is a quick player removal tool though. Which is usually fun.

Do you just build the new list each set based off of the old list? Do you get inspiration from other lists to build yours? Was just wondering how you come up with such a good deck each season.

I'm not very good at building decks, aside from limited where I can build great things out of garbage. I can only modify decks based on meta and personal preference. Currently trying to learn how to build not terrible, clunky, pile of cards. xD
