Most of my decks on TappedOut are theorycrafting, seeing how a card interaction works or just messing around. I like grindy attrition decks, usually in some variation of --Turbofog, Lantern Control, discard, that sort of thing. Resource denial is a way of life. I also have a soft spot for Dredge and recursion.

Creature types that need more support: Bat, Plant, Scorpion, Shaman, Skeleton

SolePilgrim Would Theme/Gimmick work? Can you please give some more details?

Last_Laugh I wish it was prerelease scheduling. Life outside of M:tG is stepping up. Nothing bad, nothing I can't handle, just deadlines and a need to focus.

The Burrowing Blight

Legendary Creature - Insect

At the beginning of each end step, if you control fewer than five Insect creatures, create a number of 1/1 green Insect creature tokens equal to the difference.

Creatures you control with 1 power have first strike.

, : The Burrowing Blight deals X damage to each other creature. Activate this ability only as a sorcery.

Sorry Zask and Grist, this one's for Gruul.

Don't know if anyone's paying attention this, but I'll keep it for my own notes. Not even the "villains from across the multiverse" set has anything approaching a bad guy, unless there's something we don't know about Miriam, Herd Whisperer. On to Duskmourn with a vague, desperate hope.

Last_Laugh Initial thoughts, and I'll dig into these more when I have time (very busy through the weekend):

Attack triggers are worth looking into, but they're not a snap add yet. Possible, needs review.

Damage triggers might be too narrow, or too broad. Maybe too many cards have "whenever CARDNAME deals combat damage" triggers? Unlikely at this point, but I'll check it out.

Death triggers would have a lot of overlap with Aristocrats. Maybe Aristocrats is a subset of this, but I'm trying to cut down on hubs that entirely included other hubs, and this feels like one of those.

Double triggers is a maybe, to be reviewed. Just doubling triggers isn't much of a theme in itself. What does Bristly Bill, Spine Sower have in common with Solphim, Mayhem Dominus besides the word "double"? All the Legendaries that double something either double counters, which is a hub; damage, which usually falls under burn or something similar; or power and/or toughness.

Not rejecting any of these off hand, but I want to get a feel for how they would make the most sense before making them.

Kavle It's possible to post an incomplete deck by checking the "Is prototype" box on the deck creator page.

Also, people use the maybeboard in different ways. Some people use it for cards they intend to add, some use it for cards they've taken out, and some use it as the name suggests, cards they're considering. So skipping over the maybeboard is pretty common, unless it's specifically pointed out.

Razor Boomerang

Artifact - Equipment

Equipped creature has "Unattach Razor Boomerang: This creature deals 1 damage to any target. Activate this ability only once each turn."

At the beginning of each end step, if Razor Boomerang is not equipped to a creature, attach it to target creature it was attached to this turn.

Equip

If you can reliably hit a 20-power creature, Mayael's Aria is an upkeep win condition. So it's slow, but if you keep your board stable and protected, it wins games. Black Market Connections is more generally useful, but doesn't close out a game by itself.

If you feel like the deck is well-covered in fundamentals like card draw and mana fixing, and can reliably go tall enough, Aria can win games that have stalled out. The +1/+1 counters and lifegain are useful, but may not be able to completely recover a losing game or break open a stalled game. If draw or mana are consistent or even occasional problems, I recommend BMC.

28 mana sources in a Ninjutsu deck is kind of a lot. Do the Mistvein Borderposts have any specific purpose aside from mana generation? Related to this, how do you use the Drift of Phantasms?

Ninjas usually go for a more tempo-based approach. Ninja of the New Moon can deal lots of damage fast, but it's often better to focus on speed, consistency, and disruption rather than raw damage.

As I understand it, courtesy of Mark Rosewater and contrary to a semi-serious prediction of mine from several years ago here, Jace was simply disguised/illusioned as Ashiok. It's still possible Jace will be Ashiok with some time funkiness, but they're currently two separate entities.

Prevent all combat damage that would be dealt this turn. Return target creature from your graveyard to your hand. You gain 2 life.

Yes, Karn, the Great Creator can put an exiled Ring of Ma'ruf into your hand. The updated wording on Ring is simply

  • , , Exile Ring of Ma'rûf: The next time you would draw a card this turn, instead put a card you own from outside the game into your hand.

So the Ring exiles itself as part of the activation cost, allowing Karn to add it to your hand.

The old wording was created when interacting with objects not immediately in play was still a novelty, and the exile zone didn't fully exist. (To be fair, almost everything was a novelty at that point.)

Also, you need double square brackets to link cards, not just single square brackets.

Coward_Token It could be an interesting EDH deck. Satoru on top, a bunch of self-mill and discard, the bits of a 60-card Dredge deck, some reanimator stuff. Not sure how well it would work, but it sounds fun. I might try it.

Not saying you're wrong at all here, but it was a Secret Lair, so no new cards, and I guess they wanted a newish card in there. for some small attempt at color balance.

Who would you have chosen to represent him? Main characteristics are that he's disguised (no spoilers), he's a capable swordsman, and he's living mostly off a combination of his reputation and doing things nobody expects him to do (which don't always work out). Captain Ripley Vance has a good feel, but is a pretty underwhelming card. The Legendary Human Rogue selection took off in the last couple years, and there wasn't a great option before that, in my opinion. Something with maybe a dash of .

wallisface I'm not sure comparing the overall best nonlegendary creatures to all creatures is quite the right comparison. Legendary creatures in general tend to be more powerful than non legendary creatures in general. By comparing the average strength of legendaries to the average strength of all creatures (which may actually be impossible to standardize and express numerically), I think it's reasonable to say that legendary creatures as a whole are better than nonlegendary creatures as a whole. Atraxa, Grand Unifier, Griselbrand, Omnath, Locus of Creation, Lurrus of the Dream-Den, Muxus, Goblin Grandee, and Leovold, Emissary of Trest are a small sampling of legendary creatures that have influence (or bans) in multiple formats.

Some individual nonlegendary creatures might break the ceiling of most legendary creatures, but the general floor for legendaries is much higher, and the ceiling is comparable if not also higher. Competitive formats are built around "the best" cards, but there are a lot more nonlegendary creatures by number and proportion that aren't "the best".

Reesedaniel82 If you're talking about copying Phage the Untouchable with Lazav, the Multifarious, I believe it does work. When a card refers to itself in its rules text, unless it specifically uses the wording "a card named xxx", it actually means "this card."

So Lazav would gain the abilities

"Whenever (this creature) deals combat damage to a creature, destroy that creature. It can’t be regenerated.

Whenever (this creature) deals combat damage to a player, that player loses the game."

An easy switch would be the shocklands Hallowed Fountain, Breeding Pool, and Temple Garden. They're pretty much the next best thing to the original duals, and they can be picked up by Windswept Heath and friends that search for a land type, not a basic land. Spara's Headquarters and Waterlogged Grove are also good options.

And, as a personal choice, I like to include enough basic lands to cast any card in the deck of basics alone. You never know when a Ruination or Back to Basics is going to wander in.

indieinside Not quite. There's a difference between having a basic land type and being a basic land. If the word "Basic" doesn't show up on the type line, it's not a basic land, even if it has a Plains, Island, Swamp, Mountain, or Forest type.

Coward_Token Some of the key creatures in Dredge are Narcomoeba, Prized Amalgam, and Silversmote Ghoul. Each of these has a way to jump from the graveyard to the battlefield for free--Narco by milling, Ghoul from Creeping Chill, and Amalgam whenever either of the other two does its thing. So those can all trigger Satoru, the Infiltrator, who lets you draw, which can be replaced by more dredging.

The main problem is that Dredge is already a tight decklist, and Satoru doesn't really offer anything new, just a new way to do something it's already doing. I'm not sure how well it can replace Cathartic Reunion or whatever in Modern, and it's probably way out of place in Legacy and Vintage.
