Sideboard

This deck is focused on aggro with a bit of control. It is somewhat of a tempo deck because of all my low drops and I can consistently cast spells every turn. It also has a small gimick with Zameck Guildmage and Undying so I can keep my blockers, as well as having card advantage. Please let me know what you guys think. Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated.

#7 in tournament @ Tower Game Center — March 1, 2013

So I tried this deck at FNM today and I have to say that I am pretty surprised that it did so well.

The first matchup was against Werewolves. I didn't have much of a problem with them flipping on my turn, since with my low mana curve I had something to play each turn. Abrupt Decay was definitely my friend for this matchup as it can destroy flipped Werewolves. Moonmist was a problem at times, but Spell Rupture was able to get rid of them with no problem. I was able to win this match 2-0.

The second matchup was against Selesnya tokens. The Centaur tokens were a problem as they were 3/3 and my creatures didn't have much power to deal with them unless then had Rancor on them. Plus the opponent ran Intangible Virtue which caused even more problems. But once again, Abrupt Decay was my friend in this match and I sideboarded in Golgari Charm in the second game to deal with Intangible Virtue. I also won this match 2-0.

The third matchup was against a BUG zombie deck that utilized removal such as Abrupt Decay and Sever the Bloodline. However, no Tragic Slips to my surprise. Since the opponent had access to Blue, he also ran Diregraf Captain. The first match was pretty much a race. We both double Rancor our creatures and just kept on swinging. I had the upper hand in board presence because I had a Strangleroot Geist with double Rancor, a Zameck Guildmage, and a Dreg Mangler, while my opponent had 2 Gravecrawler, 1 with double Rancor, and a Diregraf Captain. Eventually, I was able to win the race. The second match up a little more control oriented on both sides. We both kept on casting our creatures and prevented Rancor from resolving by destroying the targeted creature. Since my opponent had Gravecrawler, I was able to swing in damage without fear of blocking. However, once a Diregraf Captain hit the board, it limited my attack options. But flashing in a Snapcaster Mage and flashing back Unsummon targeting his Diregraf Captain won me the game 2-0

The last matchup was against Jund Midrange. The first game was just me slamming in with double Rancor creatures because he was stuck at 3 mana. The second game was different, sideboarded in Appetite for Brains because I knew that Thragtusk was a potential threat to me. However, I was unable to draw 1 and he resolved an Olivia Voldaren, which shut me down pretty hard. I did resolve a Duskmantle Seer and he revealed an Obezedat, Ghost Council, which brought him down to 1. However, I didn't realize that Duskmantle Seer was a vampire and Olivia Voldaren was able to take control of it. That pretty much cost me the game there. The third game I was able to get an Appetite for Brains in my opening hand, but when I casted it, my opponent revealed 2 Huntmaster of the Fells  Flip and a Thragtusk. My sadness went on the stack and it resolved. I ended up exiling the Thragtusk, but the Huntmaster of the Fells  Flip flipping into Ravager of the Fells  Flip was what killed me in game 3. I lost that match 1-2.

Overall, I was really satisfied at how my deck performed as it placed 7th in FnM. I just built it this week and it did relatively well. The only thing that I noticed was that I was unable to get rid of big creatures, such as Thragtusk, Olivia Voldaren, and Huntmaster of the Fells  Flip. Because of this, I am changing my deck a little to have more creature removal, such as Tragic Slip. Anyways, that's all for this update and I hope to hear some feedback about the new changes.
