True-Blue Tempo

This whole thing started with me finding myself not really having much fun at legacy tournaments anymore. I was looking for something new to play but without investing too much into the format. When True-Name Nemesis was spoiled, I knew it was one of those cards I couldn't wait to get my hands on and start messing with, and it seemed like a perfect filler in a tempo deck with some nice equipment strapped to it. Obviously, decks like Stoneblade and BUG Tempo are proving this idea right on a regular basis, but I don't really have the money to invest into a bunch of dual lands. So this was my take on it. When you cut it down to size, it's basically UR Delver with a few changes and without the extra reach of Bolts. It does handle fine on its own, however, and I've been quite happy with the results after tweaking it to the point it's at today. So let's dive in:

SPELLS

The standard staples with a few extra features

  • Brainstorm and Ponder, as usual, help us set up Delver and dig through our deck.
  • Our counter library is well stocked, with Force of Will, Daze and Spell Pierce in the main with Flusterstorm and Counterspell backup in the board.
  • Stifle is one of those cards this deck just can't live without. Believe me, I've tried hard to do without it, but in the format with this kind of a deck it's a go-to solution for disruption of many kinds and keeps the momentum in your favor.
  • Vapor Snag is probaby my favorite tempo card ever printed. Unsummon and they lose a life? That's insane and insanely effective.

CREATURES

  • Delver of Secrets   is the best turn one pressure any blue card can offer. It's also the only 4x in our creature base.
  • Snapcaster Mage and Vendilion Clique are essential for our control scheme and can put a little extra pressure on or chump block in a pinch.
  • True-Name Nemesis is the reason this deck even exists. I think without it it could stand a chance but with it it's much more effective. This thing is a house, so make sure that your opponent is unable to remove it. Strapping Umezawa's Jitte to it makes it an even bigger threat and more or less unstoppable after it gets some counters.

IN CONCLUSION

If you've ever played a tempo deck before, you know exactly how this thing works. It will always be a work in progress, but I'm very satisfied with where it's at and I've been having nothing but fun testing and playing this deck. Let me know what you think in the comments!
