valakut + mountains = win!

This is my favorite deck at the moment. It was inspired by memories of Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle dominating standard back. Unfortunately Primeval Titan is banned in commander so I will not get to experience that again but the massive amount of cards that are available in the format provide ample substitutions.

The game plan is incredibly simple and straight forward. Use one of the many tutors to find Valakut whilst land ramping. Putting Valakut into play before the fifth Mountain is ideal but the deck is build with enough redundancy to survive missing some triggers. Once Valakut is active each mountain drop is a Lightning Bolt to an opponent to begin whittling down their life, removal for susceptible creatures, or a constant hindrance to planeswalkers. The win is typically brought about by copying Valakut with Vesuva and/or Thespian's Stage and/or Mirage Mirror for multiple triggers per mountain combined with a mass land drop provided by Scapeshift or Boundless Realms or Genesis Wave.

As the deck is basically built for landfall it is loaded up with "extra land per turn" effects and "play lands from the graveyard" effects. The recently printed Ramunap Excavator and Wayward Swordtooth have been amazing.

Green is the most powerful landfall color, Valakut is in red, and blue provides great utility. Riku of Two Reflections provides substantial support but is not necessary for the deck to function. Many of the cards that support what the deck does are creature, instants, or sorceries and if Riku sticks you can explode. As the goal is to constantly play lands you naturally wind up able to generate massive amounts of mana which is perfect for abusing Riku's mana-greedy abilities.

Lands are naturally resilient plus there is plenty of land recursion so the losing Valakut permanently is unlikely but if it does happen to get exiled there are backup win-cons in the landfall token generators Avenger of Zendikar, Omnath, Locus of Rage, and Rampaging Baloths. Some good ol' face bashing will get the job done in Valakut's absence.

Lots of great new cards that I wanted to try out. It was tough cutting cards, I tried to remove what I considered to be win harder or situational cards. A few, such as Creeping Renaissance and Electrodominance are pet favorites that had not been pulling their weight. I think the changes make the deck more powerful overall but I have not had many chances to test it out.

When I get my hands on Oboro, Palace in the Clouds I will be adding it, probably in place of a basic mountain.
