This was once my 5 colour, slow lands planeswalker deck! In the autumn of '23 it was trimmed down to 4 colours and Atraxa, Praetors' Voice took command! She took along a better land base, and lowered CMC from 4.6 -> to 3.5

I would love your feedback and suggestions on my choices

Lands

This is complicated. The multi-colors are an obvious choice, but the rest are a tough call.

I'd really prefer not to have etb tapped effects, in the deck, but also need dual fixing in all colors.

I've gone for the fetches, the fetchable trilands, and the shocklands. Basic land support is kind of weak, but I can't figure out how to fix this. So far, this is my best bed, without grabbing original duals out of other decks (may be the viable approach).

Walkers

Want to stay around 20, as these are the center piece of the deck. Also have a strong preference for -Max ability to be usable straight up given Doubling Season or Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider.

Game ending effects preferred (e.g. Ugin, the Spirit Dragon) and surviving the early game (e.g., Sorin, Lord of Innistrad). Since the design is kind of win hard, or die trying, I've avoided the cheaper walkers with static effects.

Walker support

Anything that will enhance my game plan

Tutors

I really want access to Doubling Season or Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider effects, so I'll pump a handfull of replacements in the deck to increase the odds

Control

Any serious deck should have some control. Current layout could use some work. Would like more board wipes and single spot removal. Need to fit in Path to Exile and Swords to Plowshares and more wipes. Would also be sane to run a suite of counter spells, but guess I can't have it all.

Utility

Primevals' Glorious Rebirth is a pretty nice recovery card. Not sure it's needed, but makes me feel good.

Ramp

It's EDH. 10 ramp minimum or go home. Want some fixing, and I'm short on non-fetches in my deck (blessing and a curse) so will run ramp that shifts the mana base slightly towards green. Not sure the current choices are correct, but I'm guessing it could work. Astral Cornucopia and Everflowing Chalice are too good to pass up on when working with doublers and proliferate, so they're in the mix. Wargate is there for its flexibility as a in-to-play tutor, but I'll not be shy to fetch a land early game.

Card advantage

Suite is a bit small, but somewhat "mitigated" by other cards and semi-expensive CMCs. Would like more, but not sure it's worth it?

... and lots more. Let's say Ugin, the Spirit Dragon is often something we want more than Doubling Season

Why the chosen planeswalkers?

I don't have a formula for how to select planeswalkers. I use common sense and identified combos. Even though Narset Transcendent's +1 is sort of meh, and -2 is almost useless in this deck, I'll play her for the off-chance of playing her with Doubling Season and -9 her straight away... because it is that good.

Known weaknesses

  • Mainly relies on Atraxa and Tokens for defense early game
  • Could have more counter spells and board wipes.

Updates Add

I have done a 5 year update of the deck

  • New commander
  • Lowered CMC by an entire point (and then some)
  • Included all the good walker support cards that the deck could bear
  • Updated the lineup of the dirty dozen
  • Mana base updated from gimmicy to very much okay
