Welcome to Oyobis House of Pain!

Primer WIP

Welcome to one of the few decks that utilizes a spirit commander! Together, me (klone13) and aves01 have designed this flavorful, fun, and powerful deck. Our goal is to create a deck designed around winning. Not winning fast, and not winning gracefully, but winning through grit and small damage every turn. This deck, in addition to having powerful threats like Sun Titan ond Oyobi, Who Split the Heavens Spirit tokens, has ample room for defense. Ghostly Prison, Moat and the like allow us to create a fort around ourselves to prevent damage, and Aura of Silence allows us to shut decks down entirely.

Who doesn't love spirits?

In all seriousness this gal is a fun and flavorful commander which allows for tribal and combo. The possibilities are almost endless.

Also white has very powerful removal and mass removal:

Swords to Plowshares

Path to Exile

Wrath of God

Terminus

In progress.

Political Scenarios

Scenario 1. When one person is stronger in a 3 player game, try to stay neutral, only dealing small damage; you are much stronger in the late-game, as youre still alive, and you can attack with all your creatures then proceed to wreck face.

Interactions and Synergies

Aura of Silence + Sun Titan is a guaranteed every turn removal.

Nikko-Onna + Sun Titan + sac outlet is a guaranteed every turn removal.

Adarkar Valkyrie/Emeria, The Sky Ruin + Yosei, the Morning Star + sac outlet = board lock for one player.

Opening Hands and Performing Mulligans

Due to Oyobi's high CMC opening hands should allow for playing Oyobi by turn 7 or earlier. It is also nice to have at least on combo piece in hand, a removal spell, 2-4 lands, and ideally on of our few mana rocks. A great hand would be

2x Snow-Covered Plains , Kor Haven, Sol Ring, Sun Titan, Swords to Plowshares, and Ghostly Prison.

A bad opening hand is

2x Snow-Covered Plains, Spirit of the Hearth , Emeria Shepherd, Kami of the Honored Dead , and Terminus.

We want to use partials to their full potential. In the hand above I would partial Emeria Shepherd, Terminus, and Kami of the Honored Dead .

Land Tax- Deck thinning was OP in Untap. We activated it every turn in the early-game, and had mana for days.

Nikko-Onna - Played against Zur and destroyed though we still lost the game due to Wash Out. Another great thing about her is her bounce ability which allows for extra Oyobi triggers.

Oyobi, Who Split the Heavens --Spirit tokens

Creatures-With something like Moat out, our Oyobi tokens and other assorted flying creatures quickly become threats.

One of our various infinite combos for damage or creatures.

Strengths:

Sheer Value: Paying 1 mana for Spiritual Visit to get a 1/1 and a 3/3 is basically value incarnate.

Mono-Color: Allows for us to put in cards like Honor of the Pure and Light from Within to boost our creatures and to play Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx.

Weaknesses:

Mono-Color: Four words: Iona, Shield of Emeria. It shuts down our entire deck.

Early game: Oyobi, Who Split the Heavens costs 6W. Thats enough to keep our entire deck from hitting its infinite combos or wrecking face until about turn 6 or 7.

Mass Bounce: In Untap, we saw Cyclonic Rift and Wash Out, and we had no answer for them.

Omissions

Wasteland and Strip Mine- these cards drew too much hate early game and made me the immediate target. In order for the deck to succeed we need to have Oyobi out and if everyone focuses on us because of these two cards then we wont have enough time to cast Oyobi and if we do we wont be able to really start abusing her abilities. Also we need lands to cast our commander and there is no point in sacrificing these.

Crucible of Worlds- without fetches and the two above cards, this card is not worthwhile in this deck.

Equipment Package- We ran Stoneforge Mystic, Sword of Fire and Ice , and Umezawa's Jitte, but we removed them because they really didnt help us win at all. These omissions also help make the deck more budget. Though budget isnt too much of a concern, its nice not to have to spend over $75 on 3 or 4 cards.

Considerations

Magus of the Moat- another Moat but not sure if needed.

Altar of the Brood- allows for a win con when executing a sac-loop.

Soul Snare- op with Sun Titan.

Eldrazi Monument- because its op and an anthem.

Revillark + Karmic Guide + Sac Outlet forms the basis of almost all of our infinite combos. This basic shell can be combined with:Blasting Station for infinite damagePhyrexian Altar/Ashnod's Altar for infinite manaAltar of Dementia for infinite mill (dont use it against graveyard decks!!!) Oyobi, Who Split the Heavens for infinite 3/3 SpiritsTwilight Drover + Oyobi, Who Split the Heavens for an infinity/infinity Twilight Droverand many other things.

Another fun (but insanely complicated) way to make Twilight Drover go infinite is through an infinite spirit sac loop. You need Pearl Medallion , Urza's Incubator naming Spirits, Phyrexian Altar, Oyobi, Who Split the Heavens and Twilight Drover on the field with a single . Once you have those collected (unlikely, but possible), cast Blinking Spirit for . Oyobi activates. Sac Oyobis spirit with Phyrexian Altar. Put a +1/+1 counter on Twilight Drover. Return Blinking Spirit to your hand. Recast it for the from Ashnod's Altar. Repeat infinite times.

Let us know if you find something that we missed!

In progress.
