i took a command quarter's deck and ruined it

still kinda fun tho. I just really like having Ayara and Izoni in decks together. So, obviously the the deck wants to mill to trigger that second part of Sidisi's text and then use those tokens for value. Add in a bit of a reanimator theme to replay some pretty decent ETB effects and other graveyard synergies and we've got a deck on our hands.

How does the deck get off the ground?

Obviously ramp is very important in a commander deck, but the one different a Sidisi deck has to many others is the need for s̶p̶e̶e̶d̶ creatures. So a majority of the ramp pieces are on bodies so our mills are less likely to whiff, our graveyard has more targets for recursion and our aristocrat pieces have more fuel. Mana dorks: Leyline Prowler, lanowar Elves, Deranged Assistant, Millikin, Skull Prophet Land Fetchers: Wood Elves and Farhaven Elf The more conditional ramp pieces: The Mending of Dominaria (if it get to 3 lore counters), Priest of Forgotten Gods (when you've got things to sac) and Journey to Eternity   (which flips into a land) Then traditional ramp cards: Both Deathsprout and Growth Spiral are cards that do something and also ramp, are they good in this deck? Well they fit the colours and their art is by Seb Mckinnon so who can blame me? Arcane Signet just feels good to play turn 2 and Myriad Landscape is arguably ramp on a land and every deck needs a few shufflers.

A very important thing a Sidisi deck needs is a way to get online w/ those zombie tokens, so you gotta mill yourself. This deck runs some persistent mill pieces like Nyx Weaver, Mindwrack Harpy, The Mending of Dominaria kind of, as well as Sidisi, Brood Tyrant herself, but these pieces are limited in that they occur in certain phases and so you can lose value depending on the state of the board.

So, that brings us to pieces where pieces where it's a little bit easier to control when the mills occur.

Three of our ramp pieces either also mill us Millikin and Deranged Assistant or give us an option w/ Skull Prophet.

Then we have our slightly more conditional mill effects that still allow us for some breathing room with set up and lines of play. Tamiyo, Collector of Tales +1 loyalty ability and Path of Discovery whenever a creature etbs (including tokens, so it and Sidisi can really pop off even just by themselves) are mill abilities that won't force your hand into undesirable mills, on their own at least. So you can usually make use of your turn to capitalize on them. Underrealm Lich turns our draws in card advantage with card selection, throwing the rest into our bin, While Stinkweed Imp let's us pull it back into our hand from the graveyard with dredge.

We also have instant speed repeatable mills but they all have a small cost. Doom Whisperer's Surveil ability let's us pay life to mill/card select and it's also just a beater in it's own right. Syr Konrad, the Grim provides us with an mill mana sink not to mention a powerful static ability. And the card I might consider the absolute all star in this deck Altar of Dementia and instant speed sac outlet and mill piece.

Finally, we have some ETB mill effects that typically serve as double duty as mill effects (that we can recur if that is super necessary somehow) and as fodder for the aristocrat effects we run typically for pay out from our zombies and other tokens but not complaining about versatility. Glowspore Shaman = Mills us and can help guarantee a land drop in the early game Emry, Lurker of the Loch = Mills but also let's us pull artifacts from our graveyard and with powerful pieces like Altar of Dementia and Conjurer's Closet there is some method to the madness. Stitcher's Supplier = Mills on the way in and the way out.

Three words. Every magic players loves them. Draw a card. How do you do that in this deck?

The Nobility: There are a few aristocrat effects in this deck, and plenty of them help with card advantage. Ayara, First of Locthwain, Vraska, Golgari Queen's +2, Izoni, Thousand-Eyed and Priest of Forgotten Gods can turn tokens or other cards that have done their job (etb creatures) into card draw by sacrificing the aforementioned fodder. Then Undead Augur(zombies) and Moldervine Reclamation(creatures) are payouts for when our things die

I ain't saying she's a gravedigger: Drawing cards is great but so is having access to another hand entirely, which is what your graveyard easily can become.

Some cards return cards from the graveyard to your hand; Eternal Witness(any) and Golgari Findbroker(permanent) as well as Tamiyo, Collector of Tales(any) -3 loyalty ability. Genesis's upkeep trigger (creature), The Mending of Dominaria's first two lore counters let you bring a creature back to your hand. the Find portion of Find / Finality also returns up to 2 creatures to your hand.

Then some cards let you cast or otherwise pull things out of your graveyard onto the battlefield. Havengul Lich, Muldrotha, the Gravetide and Emry, Lurker of the Loch let you cast certain cards from your graveyard. While Whisper, Blood Liturgist, Journey to Eternity   and Phyrexian Delver just bring a creature back from the dead.

erhm.. Other: Vaguely creative names become less and less possible when you spend all your creative juices on "i ain't saying she's a gravedigger"

River Kelpie draws you cards whenever any player casts something from the graveyard or returns a permanent from the graveyard. At the very least this deck will be doing this a lot even if there aren't any other graveyard decks at the table. Tatyova, Benthic Druid play land, draw cards. There's a couple basic land fetchers in the deck, so you can get extra value out of this ability as well. Final Parting a tutor for your hand and the graveyard. Not bad. Incubation / Incongruity's Incubation let's you maybe find a creature, but the card is in here for incongruity Notion Thief thieves other people's draw. A solid play. A solid recursion target.

The Gameplan

Token Characters Show

Now the name of the game is winning, and tokens is the way this deck tries to go about it.

Wide Load lol The deck doesn't have many token generators but if the few we have stick around things can easily hit critical mass. First off Sidisi, Brood Tyrant we already know how she works. But she's further assisted by a bit of zombie support in a few zombie lords Death Baron, Diregraf Captain, and Gleaming Overseer who either make zombies bigger or help them get through. And Endless Ranks of the Dead that can keep generating more.

Izoni, Thousand-Eyed's undergrowth etb create insects based on the creature in your graveyard which is probably gonna be a lot.

Desecrated Tomb turns creatures that leave your graveyard for any reason into bats. Flyers are nice and the incidental value this card gives you from recurring creatures or returning them to your hand is nothing to scoff at.

That being said, they're aren't any overrun effects in this deck so you can always use these tokens for more of a win by

Death by like, 40 cuts at the very least Lots of tokens and a few cards that let us do our best at a Goblin Bombardment impression. Poison-Tip Archer and Syr Konrad, the Grim throw damage around whenever any other creature hits the graveyard from the battlefield. Diregraf Captain is more specific as it only targets one player and only when a zombie dies but that's still effective.

Ayara sees a creature hit your side of the battlefield and drains your opponents, note all the tokens this deck makes? Yeah, .

Have to have things to delay or stop your opponents. A lot of these are on creatures, yet again. OBJECTION! Some people don't like counter magic. Those are people who aren't using counter magic.

Dispel is a cheap counter that hits a lot of the popular single target removals and also can protect you from counters. Frilled Mystic and Kheru Spellsnatcher are counterspells on bodies, which also means they can be recurred if they find their way into the graveyard. Narset's Reversal is a pseudo counter, but bouncing a spell back to an opponents hand and then being able to copy and use it is pretty strong.

Always use protection

Most of the protection pieces we have are for the graveyard, to prevent being blown out by graveyard hate. There are cards like Gravepurge that can protect the creatures in our graveyard by returning them to the top of our library, also draws us a card which is nice. Or cards like Cranial Archive and Elixir of Immortality that can shuffle the graveyard back into our library in response to exile effects. Or to prevent us from decking ourselves. Gaea's Blessing is a bit of a seat belt card, it keeps us safe from decking ourselves (or someone trying to punish our deck with mill of their own), but can still cause major damage to our game plan if we hit it at an inopportune time.

Otherwise we have two piece of creature protection. Journey to Eternity   returns the creature back after it dies, assuming it makes it to the graveyard. Then Tamiyo, Collector of Tales's static effect prevents opponents from forcing us to discard or sac things.

Removal.. Yeah that's a good enough title We have to trash the opponents stuff because vandalism. Creatures with etb removal like; Ravenous Chupacabra(creatures), Reclamation Sage(artifacts and enchantments), and Acidic Slime(lands, artifacts and enchantments)

Or creatures that can use token/other creatures for removal payouts Priest of Forgotten Gods(sac 2 creatures your creatures to make any number of players sac one of their own) or Nullmage Shepherd (tap 4 creatures to destroy an artifact or enchantment, an effect that can be done multiple times)

Pseudo removal in creatures with deathtouch or similar effects Stinkweed Imp, Leyline Prowler, Poison-Tip Archer, Diregraf Captain and Death Baron(gives zombies deathtouch)

Removal effect not on creatures are still part of this deck also Vraska, Golgari Queen -3 loyalty ability destroys a nonland permanent with CMC or less. Deathsprout destroys a creature Incubation / Incongruity's Incongruity exiles a creature and replaces it with a vanila 3/3 frog lizard.

Just secondary win cons. Only got two and with the make-up of this deck trying for them as your main line of play probably isn't smart. If you mill yourself enough, Thassa's Oracle if it resolves, hands you a win. More difficult Vraska, Golgari Queen's ultimate ability gives you an emblem that takes out any opponent who you can sneak any combat damage through to.

Just synergies I like in the deck Show

Ayara is a big mvp assuming you've amply milled Ayara, First of Locthwain + Izoni, Thousand-Eyed for out of nowhere life swings Ayara, First of Locthwain + Sidisi, Brood Tyrant + mills makes for consistent pings, very good at drawing aggro to yourself and getting archenemy'd Ayara, First of Locthwain + Yarok, the Desecrated + any of the other pairs up there (I know Yarok isn't in the deck yet shh))

Syr Konrad, the Grim immediately draws all eyes to him as the table realizes they're about to take damage, like several damage, perhaps even a lot of damage w/ Gaea's Blessing + Syr Konrad, the Grim + mills (similar situation to the ayara and desecrated tomb synergy) even just the Syr Konrad, the Grim and consistent mill is scary enough

Path of Discovery + Sidisi, Brood Tyrant has the potential to go off that synergizes with both Syr Konrad, the Grim and Ayara, First of Locthwain. Yarok can help with this also

While it's no Cedh synergy or even vaguely efficient, Frilled Mystic + Havengul Lich or Frilled Mystic + Whisper, Blood Liturgist makes for convenient access to a counter

More sac outlets are needed to make this deck more consistent.
